Taverna Cestia - Menu

This is a real Roman institution. They serve traditional fare very well to a waiting line of grateful patrons. The food is excellent and reasonably priced.

I arrived a few minutes after they opened for dinner and got a table outside. Within about 10 minutes there were about 50 people in line and they just kept coming. I got the Paccherri Pachino, stracciata e pesto di basilico it was amazing ... and vegetarian. Very delicious.

Cibo fantastico, personale super efficiente e cordiale e mangiare lì con il suo lavoro in mattoni e nel seminterrato è così divertente! Abbiamo mangiato qui due sere delle nostre 5 notti a Roma! Siamo riusciti ad entrare di nascosto entrambe le sere ma consigliamo vivamente di prenotare!

We loved our experience at this restaurant, we highly recommend making a reservation (we did) as the queue was long if you had no reservation. The staff were attentive in just the right way, wine recommendations and food suggestions. The food tasted so fresh and full of flavour! Pace yourself, if you do all the courses you will be stuffed!

Siamo venuti qui con la raccomandazione del nostro hotel, ed è davvero molto affascinante. L'arredamento era autenticamente romano, mescolando con gusto elementi rustici e moderni. Questo è tutto ciò che rende questo posto speciale. Il locale era affollato per tutto il tempo e, a causa di ciò, il servizio era molto lento. La pizza era molto buona, ma le paste erano troppo ricche.

We have had 9 meals from Venice, Florence to Rome. This ranks amongst the top 2. Not based on price but based of food. We dined a more expensive places and it did not come close to this meal. We enjoyed the octopus carpaccio, all the various pastas, and fried artichoke. This casual dining place had great service. The food came out fairly quick. Highly recommend this quality establishment.

Questo posto era abbastanza buono. Continuo a sognare il loro carciofo fritto! Anche il cibo era abbastanza buono, non mi è piaciuta la pasta alla Carbonara, ma mia moglie l'ha adorata. Erano piuttosto impegnati, ma siamo entrati abbastanza velocemente, forse abbiamo dovuto aspettare al massimo una decina di minuti fuori. L'ambiente è carino, nulla di eccezionale, ma il cibo era abbastanza buono.

I'd say this place is worth the hype. I made a reservation for right dinner. We were sat inside ordered fairly quickly and the appetizer was served within two minutes of ordering. The pasta was more than enough food for dinner, but we opted for ossobucco to try which was delicious. Service wasn't overly attentive, but more geared on running out food. They run a tight ship and it's best to get in and out to allow others to get their seats and start their meals.

My family of 3 had dinner here last night. Good thing we had a reservation (for 7pm when the restaurant opens), as when we got there right at 7, we saw a line stretching a block. The line was for those that did not have reservations. There was a smaller line of ~30 people for those with reservations. When the restaurant started seating people, they took a bunch of people from the non reservation line first, which I thought was a bit weird. Since we ended up getting seated, I assume so did everyone else who had a reservation did as well. The restaurant is at basement level and old school decor. They squeeze people in. Our party of 3 got seated at a table meant for 2 with an extra seat placed...
