"Very good service and definitely worth a visit. Celeriac We started with the celeriac labneh and dukkah which was very nice. Very earthy and deep powerful flavours in the dukkah complimenting the celeriac. The labneh was silky and fresh. Squid The broth from...the squid was very nice, lite and a full depth of flavour. Our next dishes… Pigeon Kiev the pigeon breast was cooked well, soft and flavoursome. There was a hint of black garlic coming through but not over powering. The crumb let it down as it was just over done and had a strong flavour of oil coming through which overpowered the dish. Scallops the scallops were scallops. However they were over done and the oil they were in was too much. We could not make out what the dish was as it lacked flavour and for us it just did not work. Fillet of beef beautifully cooked and a very good cut. Exactly how fillet should be. The croquette was powerful, the jus silky and powerful also. A good dish however we were both looking forward to the venison which was not on the restaurant menu but on the online menu. Dessert the apple and blackberry crumble was nice but really just a simple crumble (not tart). Sweet and silky fruits with a crumble topping sprinkled on top. The cheese board was as you would expect. The portions were about right if you were to have each course as the menu is designed to offer. For us the food just did not wow, and was rather average. At the prices charged (high end close to Michelin) I expected more. There was not a single dish that wowed us. We were seated in the gazebo area of the restaurant. It was hot and cold as they had a blast heater which was timed to occasionally blast heat into the room which made it rather hot and then the room quickly cooled down however this did not really bother us. Unfortunately the room we were sat in lacked ambiance and left us feeling a little uncomfortable at times with the two other tables in there. Our table was also rather small. The service was very good. Well done! Balanced and timings very good. We felt looked after. I would suggest you DO try this restaurant but for us, we now have and probably would not return based on the value for money and comparing to other restaurants with a similar price point and offering."

"We had a work lunch with a large group at this restaurant. We were very impressed with the welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, delicious food, and great drinks. Despite the size of our group, everything was top-notch. My pork terrine starter was especially tasty, served with a homemade piccalilli. I opted for dauphinois potatoes instead of cheddar mash with the duck leg, and it was absolutely delicious. The restaurant has done a fantastic job of revitalizing the space, which used to be dark and shabby. It was packed for a midweek lunch, so making a reservation in advance is recommended."

"I visited the Royal Oak yesterday and had a fantastic lunch, along with two perfect pints of Shere Drop. I highly recommend the chicken and ham cake; it was outstanding! The mustard and fresh vegetables complemented the dish wonderfully. Overall, it's a great pub with excellent and friendly service."

"Warm and welcoming pub. A very authentic, 'local ' feel to it, nice sense of community as you go in. We went a few times during our stay at a nearby campsite and it was always busy and had a good atmosphere. Nothing really on the menu without meat, dairy and eggs so we opted for a jacket potato, which came out with a hearty portion of beans and a nice, golden skin on the potato just what you want after a day of walking or cycling. Good range of drinks at reasonable prices as well. Dog friendly and muddy walking boots friendly as well!"

"Visited this restaurant as it was immediately next to our hotel and so glad we did. I’d seen some of the reviews saying negative things about the decor or food and I honestly can not understand why. It’s a little family run Trattoria and looks...as such, clean, well maintained but rustic, perfect for the style. The staff, from Carlos, to all the waiters are excellent, friendly, helpful, attentive, and fun. Everything you want from a family run Italian. We ordered some wine and the mixed starter. Both were excellent, and we made it clear we were in no rush and to take time between courses. The specials boards were full with excellent choices, as is the menu, and we chose a combination between us of both to ensure we had the full 4 course Italian experience (heads up it’s a traditional Italian so pastas and meats but not pizza). Food and wine continued to flow and we opted for deserts which were all homemade and superb, tiramisu was a stand out. Before we knew it we were the last ones left at the end of the evening at around 23:00. They didn’t rush us out but rather told us to relax and finish our food and wine. If I lived local I would visit this place regularly and recommend anyone in the area pop in and pay them a visit."
