The Hare And Hounds

The sausages were very overcooked and the dish came without any vegetables. However, the service was good and the venue was lovely. It's unfortunate that the food quality did not meet expectations.

Went for breakfast as it’s always been a favourite. Not anymore. Sausage over cooked and poor quality. Bacon uncooked, had to send it back. Says on the menu st ewes eggs which are orange yolks and very tasty, my scrambled eggs where an insipid pale yellow. Toast supermarket plastic bread. Hash brown burnt. Tomato hard. Beans and mushrooms good. Such a shame, staff very nice.

Brilliant food served by even better staff. The restaurant is a really lovely setting in the night with all the lights especially as we were sat in the conservatory. Staff were very attentive and we never waited long for anything. We had three courses and the space between each course was spot on! My family and I stopped by the Hare and Hounds for lunch while we were traveling. I decided to try The Turkey dinner and it was absolutely incredible! It was hands down the best Turkey dinner I have ever had at a restaurant. The meal was cooked perfectly and the flavors were amazing. A big thank you to the Chef! The staff, especially Sophie, were lovely and attentive. They went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. I highly recommend dining at the Hare and Hounds.

We visited this evening for a quick bite on the way home with our two small children and while the view was beautiful and the fries were good, the service was rather lacking and there was little value for money. We were shown to a table for food having asked about availability but almost 15 minutes later had to ask for menus. We then ordered drinks but were waiting at least another 15 minutes before we could order food. When the food arrived, we were rather surprised by the goats cheese bonbons which were very small (slightly bigger than a malteser) and few in number (3) which for 9.50 felt rather extortionate. Our Christmas Eve visit to this restaurant was extremely disappointing. We arrived hungry and left hungry. We had called several days in advance to book a table and inquire about the festive menu, but were told it was only available if booked seven days in advance. Despite being assured that there were 'festive elements' in the regular menu, we found this not to be the case upon arrival. Other guests around us were also surprised, as they too were expecting a festive menu. We were seated near the bar, with no festive ambiance, although we did enjoy a nice wood fire. We went to the Hare and Hounds few times before and were really pleased with everything. However...yesterday was a a different story. Staff and venue absolutely lovely, but the food was not what we remembered from before!! My husband had the Sunday roast with sirloin, it was bland and lacking of the right amount of gravy. I had the butternut squash and lentils Wellington with all the veg. It was swimming in gravy which obviously made the pastry soggy. All the vegetables were undercooked. The red cabbage was too spicy with some herbs or cloves which erased the taste of everything else, and I couldn't taste the butternut squash at all in the Wellington. So very disappointed that The Hare and Hounds has become such a dismal place. We arrived at about 6.50 as we were booked for 7pm. There were 3 of us although only 2 eating. There was only one other table of customers which made the place quite empty. I was surprised as I am a neighbour and had never seen the pub like this. The weather was cold which may have put diners off. The staff were professional and were obviously looking for things to do, a sign of good staff I think you would agree. First the good bit. Superb location overlooking Bath. Nice interior with plenty of character, both I would give 5 pips to However!....... Poor value and no warning of the 10% 'discretionary? ', service charge added to the final bill without my prior knowledge. It wasn 't on the menu and it wasn 't given verbally. Some people will say, 'so whats your problem '. Thats an easy one. Tipping is not a right, it is given as recognition of good food and service by the staff. A service charge is an expectation regardless of the quality of food or service.
