"Been here several times now and i can safely say it's the best breakfast place ever! The guys and girls there serve up some seriously good food, are easy on swapping items, and the service is beyond brilliant. The owner offered me some Turmeric to pop in my coffee one day (which was amazing and then a week later the guy remembers me and turmeric'd up my coffee and presented it with a smile : Lots of good community links too so safe to say I STRONGLY recommend this place."

Lockdown ends and Chris is back with interesting, tasty and good value food. We went to a wine tasting, enjoyed a quiet dinner and quiz night in the last couple of weeks, and the revamped garden is a pleasure eat in. Sussex cheese board is a good choice, but then so is everything. Visualizza piatti

No6 breakfast is more than enough to set you up for the day: Good quality bacon, sausage, eggs beans, fried bread... and you can add the usual extras if you want. Shakshuka makes a great alternative. Nice garden space at the back. And the front if you like to watch passing traffic.

A group of us visited the restaurant for tea and cake. Our orders were served promptly and with a smile. The cakes were delicious, and the teas and coffees were hot. The restaurant is conveniently located just two minutes away from the station and shops. The prices were reasonable.

This weeks' wine tasting was (appropriately) devoted to Sussex wines, with Giles providing an excellent selection from Albourne Estates, Plumpton and Poynings Grange. Chris as usual laid on excellent food to match and this remains one of the best value nights out around. Also a great place for lunch. Visualizza piatti

Just went in to get 2 take away paninis. They took over 30 minutes to prepare and when I got them home my bacon, brie and cranberry had no bacon. My chicken, chilli cheese and guacamole had old dry chicken and the cheese wasn't even melted. Then paninis weren't even folded over so the contents was everywhere. If I wasn't in such a rush I would have taken them back. Will never go back.

In March, just before lockdown, we spent two enjoyable nights at the Carrot: wine club tasted even better than the last, Chris excelled with his selection of tasty treats to accompany Giles' wine selections. Still the best value night out. And the last night before lockdown with the monthly quiz where we were beaten by several teams playing online, while we enjoyed dinner at the cafe. The sooner we're back, the better.

"We go to Gravetye 3 or 4 times a year if we can and have been going for many many years over the tenures of several owners. It 's always a complete joy, and the current owner has done a fabulous job of getting the right people in, both inside and out. Tom Coward, the Head Gardener (ex. Dixter) has a vision and a long term plan that make continual visits over an extended period a joy every time we visit we are surprised by the continual changes we learn so much and the garden staff are super helpful and willing to discuss what they 're up to and why. The amazing oval massive kitchen garden that supplies the hotel is a source of wonderment and not to be missed. A visual and culinary feast. We 've never stayed there as we live reasonably close, but have eaten in both the old and new dining rooms many times. The new dining room sits harmoniously between the wings of the manor and although a very modern glass and steel construction, the inclusion of a fabulous antique (and uneven) parquet floor (ex. some french chateau) softens the feel and acoustics, making the room almost intimate. The floor to ceiling windows bring you right into the garden, even in the foulest of weather it 's a triumph of design. Then there 's the food. Apart from the presentation, which is exquisite, the flavours and textures always bring a broad grin, however grumpy I am! This is absolutely first rate British cuisine; the kitchen under Head Chef George Blogg is to be commended, as are the garden staff producing the freshest of produce. I occasionally try to photograph the plates, but invariably find I 've forgotten that rather crass move and have just launched in! Must also mention the front of house staff. Perfectly presented and mannered, they know exactly the boundary between staff and guest and make you feel completely comfortable and relaxed there is nothing stuffy or obsequious about Gravetye everything is pitched just spot on and nothing is too much trouble. We were there today for a birthday treat, but will be back again soon for a post family wedding get together. Cannot recommend too highly just an excellent few hours, whatever the weather. Walkability: Lots of paths. The lower areas are easy for those with limited mobility, however it might be tricky to get up to the kitchen garden if you 're not great on your feet. Food drinks: See my review."
