"Awful experience for Father’s Day this year. We were situated at the table right in front of the carvery, which when we arrived and sat down seemed fine as the place wasn’t too busy. We were the first in the queue to get our carvery. I was holding my son’s plate and my own and burnt my finger on the hot plate whilst setting the plates down which was a poor start. As we sat down to eat we realised how hot the restaurant was and moved a plug in air fan which were placed sporadically throughout the restaurant so we could feel the breeze. As we continued the place quickly filled up and the queue for the carvery snaked around our table the whole time we were eating. We were stared at by the inquisitive queue for the whole while we were eating. In addition, the man carving the food fancied himself as a bit of a comedian, shouting down to people he knew in the queue throughout and it was SO loud, we couldn’t hear ourselves think or make conversation between ourselves. It was ridiculously hot and our only sauce of air was being blocked by the ever-growing carvery queue. For balance, the food itself was good and I had only booked the table two days prior but was assured a table for 4 was no problem. After eating our carvery, I ushered a staff member over (believe he was the manager) I explained that whilst we had enjoyed the food it was a completely unpleasant experience. He claimed to understand and apologised that we had been given the last table as they were at full capacity. I told him I’d have rather him turned down our booking than cram us in like pilchards. We are talking £27.50 a head, £15.50 for our little one. We got our deserts to go and left, £115 lighter after a terrible 50 minutes of what was supposed to be a lovely treat for my husband and father in law. I was disgusted that not even a single drink had been removed from the bill. I understand that you may want to get as many covers as possible, but this should not be to the detriment of the dining experience. Very poor, greedy management."

Great lunch menu, Wraps are brilliant well stuffed with filling and very fresh. Chips could be cooked a tad longer but that's personal preference.

I had an excellent dinner at this restaurant last night. The service was good, the food was delicious and served hot, and the portions were large. I will definitely be coming back.

We visited this restaurant based on a recommendation and decided to try the carvery. We were impressed by the delicious selection of meats cooked to perfection and the variety of fresh vegetables available. The staff was friendly and helpful, making our experience very enjoyable. We will definitely be returning soon. Thank you. xx

It's been a while since we visited and we were a little disappointed. On a positive the staff were friendly and polite. Unfortunately the place seems tired. We were served tea in a chipped cup. The sofa we sat on was ripped and worn. The curtains were coming apart and there was mold on the wallpaper. £4 for a few chips did seem a bit much. Visualizza piatti

Really let down this Sunday. We only come here on special occasions for the carvery as it’s so expensive now at £18.50 per head. It was all so tasteless! Nothing was seasoned was bland. We all thought so. Even the gravy was naff and couldn’t liven up the food. Frozen catering Yorkshires too, bad move at that price. Won’t be back anytime soon.

The Rancliffe Arms is simply the best pub for miles and miles. The food is delicious and beautiful. The menu more than enough variety to choose from. My dad is a carnivore and I’m vegetarian and the staff and chef couldn’t have been more helpful ax we ordered. The wine is lovely too and dad enjoyed the beer/shandy. I don’t bother writing reviews but this pub is so gorgeous I had to write and no!, I’m not related to anyone to do with pub. It’s just lovely.

My family and I recently dined at this restaurant. Unfortunately, there was no children's menu available and they were not willing to accommodate smaller portions from the main menu. We found the price of £8.50 for a child's chicken and chips to be a bit high compared to other pubs that offer more for a better price. The draft beer selection was unremarkable. The adult dishes were decent, but nothing exceptional. The pork was overcooked and the service was average. Visualizza piatti

We have been coming to this restaurant for at least 17 years. Our boys now men love it also. The family run restaurant has always provided fresh, quality local, food. We live 30 minutes away but travel every week. We love to eat in the restaurant but also in the lounge by the open fire. Danny that carves the meat, remembers everyones name and remembers all their favourites choices. The vegetables are amazing with all the sauces they are cooked in. The staff are so welcoming and friendly as well as Rachel and her daughters. It’s never been beaten in our opinion and that’s why we are continuing to eat here.

Probably the best UK carvery/buffet meal I think I have ever had. A Wednesday night with two friends from school days and our wives. (One lives locally). At last, somewhere where the dinner plates are hot and the carvery meats were generous and beautifully cooked. The vegetables and side dish variety was fantastic not the usual boring 'peas and carrots '. Cauliflower cheese, roast parsnips, green beans with peas, brussel sprouts, carrots, fried onions with cocktail sausages, broccoli, cabbage, Yorkshire pud, roast potatoes, a good gravy. Lovely staff and definitely a place I 'd love to return to when back in the UK.

"We live about 25 miles from East Bridgford and have friends who live nearby and also in Newark on Trent, and have once previously called in to the Royal Oak for a drink. Today however we had lunch with our friends and it was absolutely marvellous. I had reviewed the menu beforehand and it looked good but I was expecting decent pub fare. My expectations were exceeded. The meals we enjoyed were superb restaurant quality and tasted delicious. This marvellous food was matched with friendly relaxed and happy service which always makes a good meal go very well. I had a lovely light starter of three types of beetroot with goats cheese in a light dressing which was fresh and very, very tasty. To follow, I chose a smoked haddock with green beans in a mustard cream sauce which perfectly cooked and was better than delicious. It was sublime. (It’s normally served with new potatoes but I am avoiding potatoes . My friends variously enjoyed tempura king prawns with chilli dip, braised lamb with mashed potato, steak and ale pie, and fish and chips and one even made it to a sticky toffee pudding finale. Everything was enjoyed. The invisible team in the kitchen deserve 11/10 for the food offer and the full Royal Oak team get five stars+ from us for the whole experience. We will be back. (PS. I’m going to try and recreate that smoked haddock dish at home Any tips on the mustard sauce?"

"I'll start with the positives. The interaction I had on Facebook to book a table, and then change the booking, was very positive. The two young waitresses who served us were great. The pub is shabby with rubbish and cigarette butts scattered outside the door...and a smell of smoke in the doorway. The décor is tired and tatty, and the bench seat in the restaurant area has a big split in it. The floor of the restaurant had bits of food and other rubbish on it. The salt and pepper and vinegar bottle didn't look like they'd been cleaned for a few days. The food was uninspiring, and mostly overcooked. The Yorkshire puddings were burnt black and were mostly inedible (when we commented on this, the waitress said she was too scared of the chef to say anything to him). The roast potatoes were hard and tough. The vegetables (not enough for 6 of us from one dish) were not great and the cauliflower cheese was the most uninspiring I've had for a long time. The lamb was OK, but that's all I can say about it. The whole menu (apart from a goat's cheese salad) was dull and unimaginative, even allowing for the fact that for Sunday lunch on Mother's Day most people want roasts. We didn't bother staying to have desserts. I thought from the TripAdvisor reviews that we were going to a gastropub, or a pub with a super restaurant. It was like having a meal in a pub 30 years ago, which is fine if that's what you want. It was a dreadful experience and not at all the way we wanted to celebrate my son's birthday and Mother's Day. We will not go back again."
