"This was our first ever visit after found this pub on Tripadvisor despite it only being 15 mins dive from us. When we arrived, the first thing I noticed was how busy it was and how young all of the staff were. These young people were ALL exemplary and could teach many of their seniors a thing or two about service. They were all lovely without gushing. We were particularly impressed by David who was relatively new but doing a sterling job. We had five courses between us. Of all five courses I could only make a minor criticism of the way that the squid had been cooked even though it was ok. Everything else was really excellent. The cherry on this cake is the deserts which are all made on the premises; none of the pub standard freezer to microwave rubbish! They had three real ales on tap which all seemed to be kept well. We will be back!"

We received a lovely warm welcome at this restaurant, both us and our dog. We felt very welcomed and the food was impeccable! They even spoiled our dog.

The food at this restaurant is top-notch and the service is excellent. It's impressive to see skilled chefs cooking fresh dishes in a pub. We enjoyed our experience so much that we returned the next evening.

The best fish pie ever and believe me I have tasted many on my travels. Absolutely delicious and full of fish in a perfect sauce with a crispy topping. I cannot praise it enough so if you are a fish pie fan you need to visit the Shrewsbury Arms.

Great service, great food, great pub! Have stopped in here a few times but brought visiting family here recently and they were all impressed with the service and food. Great beer and food choices which support local businesses and people. Great pub!

We regularly pay a visit to “the shrew” We are never disappointed . We often take friends family and are never disappointed. We have different meals each time and can recommend anything on the menu. The staff are 1st class and nothing is too much trouble. Dog children friendly.

The food was excellent. I had the steak, ale mushroom pie which was packed to the top. The wife had the seabass, which had plenty of sauce. Very busy restaurant with a little too much noise, but not annoyingly so. We had a large largest party and couldn't really converse with a lot of them. But heyho, the evening was very enjoyable. Certainly be going back.

A birthday gift voucher bought us to this pub come restaurant, knew it would be a good venue as the person who gave it only eats in good places. Were we disappointed? Not at all. Bar area, clean and well presented, Service was very good at the bar, show to out table and menus given. Staff very polite and efficient. Orders placed, food arrived within 15 minutes. Nicely presented and plentiful on all courses. Not much more to add other than a well worthy place for a meal or just a drink. Well done The Shrewsbury Arms, see you again soon.

This was our first time visiting this charming village pub. Upon arrival, the bar and restaurant were very busy. We were greeted warmly by the friendly staff. The decor and atmosphere were inviting. Although there was a 40-minute wait for our roast beef dinners, the food was excellent and well worth it. The roasted root vegetables and gravy were perfect, although the beef was a bit too pink for our liking. The portions were generous, so we unfortunately had no room left for dessert, which looked amazing as well. The attentive staff made sure that everything was to our liking, which really stood out in terms of customer service. The pub has lovely seating areas both in the front and back. The...

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
