"After looking at some of the reviews on here my friend and I decided to try this pub. All the reviewers that rated the Tom Cobley Tavern as Excellent were spot on. What a find this place is. One get so used to pies being nothing more than a thin flaky lid on mediocre meat, the steak and ale pie here is in another league. It really is proper home made best you could eat steak and ale pie. So much soft tender top quality beef is packed into the enclosed beautiful pastry surrounding it that I kept running out of superlatives whilst I was eating it. It was actually hard to decide what to select as there was so much on the menu that I fancied. The landlord is great, so chatty and he made a good fuss of my little poodle, likewise the lovely girl that was our waitress. You people within easy distance of this place you are so lucky!"

Tucked away in a small village in Mid Devon this is a real gem. With a great range of beers and ciders, great value food and staff that are always friendly and accommodating, you could do far worse than spending an evening here.

I had a great experience at this charming pub. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. The food was exceptional, and I was disappointed that we only discovered this gem on our last day of vacation. I would love to return in the future and try everything on the menu. I highly recommend this place.

Sunday lunch fabulous roast beef and turkey turkey very moist and succulent) perfectly cooked veg and crispy roast potatoes to die for. Amazing service, we’ve not done Sunday lunch before, but we will definitely do it again. Do book in advance though it’s no secret that the Tom Cobley has the best Sunday Roast for miles.

During our vacation, we visited this pub and were pleasantly surprised by the exceptional food it offered. We regret not discovering this gem earlier in our trip, as we would have certainly come back. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and all nine of our meals were absolutely delicious. We give this place a solid five stars in our book.

During our holiday, our host recommended The Tom Cobley Tavern as a great dining option. Upon entering the pub, we were greeted warmly by the locals and staff, creating a fantastic atmosphere. We dined here three times throughout the week, and each meal was excellent. The menu is extensive, and the portions are generous. We dined in the restaurant twice and once in the bar when we had lighter appetites. The staff were all friendly, professional, and attentive. We highly recommend this place for a great dining experience.

Everything a pub should be. First things first. The beer is excellent. Second the food is good. Third the service is exemplary. Multiple CAMRA awards sets your expectations, and it does not disappoint. The food is good “pub grub” not gastro pub. No extraneous music. (A per hate) Lots of awards on the walls, and deservedly so. The landlord is justly proud of his pub which has a very long history stretching back to the sixteenth century. Speaking of whom, he is friendly and chatty and clearly loves his job. The only thing wrong with it is I don’t live anywhere near it!

"Gidleigh Park is a country house located in a wooden wally in Devon. It is quite hard to reach the place on a very narrow road, which is very beautiful, but apparently during the winter larger cars can’t even get there. Gidleigh Park houses a two-Michelin star restaurant with Michael Caines as the main chef (the restaurant was recently voted number 1 restaurant in the UK by the Harden’s Sunday Times Food List 2014). Gidleigh Park also has bedrooms (apparently all individual in style and design) and you can stay there for the night and then wonder in the gardens of the estate, which I saw some people doing when I was there. I was visiting Devon and my boyfriend chose Gidleigh Park for lunch on a Sunday and we took the long and narrow road to Gidleigh Park. The inside of the house was very old and had a lot of charm. It had eclectic art and antiques and different style rooms, the lounge had different tables, chairs and the bar was done up in a completely different style. Gidleigh Park showcased British charm and elegance. You could chose to have their signature sample menu for £140/ person, but instead we went for the much cheaper version, their lunch set menu for £44/ person for 3 courses (you could also have 4 courses for £57). Also note choosing dishes a la carte would set you back £115, so the lunch menu seems like the cheapest way how to enjoy Gidleigh Park. We did not have any wine, but apparently thy have an amazing wine cellar. The three course lunch menu included a small appetizer, a starter and a main course and you could choose from one of the 3 starters and one of the 3 main courses. Our appetizer was “goat’s cheese foam with beetroot jelly, candied walnuts and granny smith apple”, but as my boyfriend does not like goats’ cheese he had a tuna tartar as his appetizer which actually looked better than my appetizer. I was not to"
