"Sadly gone very much downhill. Eye watering prices for average food. Can only speak for myself on the food. Had mushroom pate for starter. Sloppy, served in a mini dish with a dry piece of brown bread. No butter or vegan alternative. Main was enchilada. The vegan option had no yoghurt and was caked in vegan cheese. Clearly the chef hasn't tried it as all vegan cheese eaters know you have to use sparingly. I would overall and judging the table reaction to the food give it 3 out of 5. The service however was a shocker. Offered 1 round of drinks in 3 hours (had to ask after 2 hours for one ourselves). Plates bashed down on the table when brought, no extra cutlery brought for mains and pretty much chucked on the table when we asked for. Inattentive and grumpy would sum it up. Then 10% added to the bill for the pleasure. Cost was £160 for 4 starters and mains, 2 glasses of wine, 2 soft drinks and a pint."

Beautiful food as ever. An amazing vegetarian eating experience. Never had a single bite of bad food there.

Fantastic evening, superb food, great atmosphere and service. Our meat eating friends were blown away. Only issue were the very generous portions meant we could barely waddle back to the car.

An excellent and varying vegetarian menu. You don't miss the absence of meat at all! Interesting drinks selection as well. I can recommend the enchilada with puy lentil filling rather similar to a quesadilla with more cheese!!

Wonderful vegetarian restaurant with a chilled vibe. Good spot for a date or dinner with friends after arriving by train to Eaglescliff. Food is top notch and so filling. Staff are polite and attentive. Would definitelt go again.

Visited the waiting room twice in the last month and it never disappoints! Great vegetarian food and they change the menu often. Delicious wine and friendly service. Can be a little cold inside especially if you’re seated in the room at the back so just bring a jumper. Would definitely recommend a visit!!

Really wanted to love this place.. but I don't! Very average food £18 to £20+ for mains. My main was luke warm. Not terrible but not £18! Over all very underwhelming. Surroundings felt dated and in need of upgrade (some damp on walls etc) I'm leaving this in fear of the extremely long reply from the owner!....But its just my humble opinion and it seems lots of people seem to love it! So I may be the problem!

I visited The Waiting Room yesterday with my fiancé for our Christmas date night tradition. We 're staying with my parents in Darlington and looked up veggie/vegan restaurants nearby. We couldn 't have picked a better place. The food was varied and delicious, generous portion sizes, cocktails were great, cosy and warm atmosphere, amazing maps on the walls, staff were friendly and helpful, barman Andy was a delight, and we had a nightcap with some of the locals (thanks Ken for the recommendation of the drink Rusty Nail , and thanks Verity, Steve and Bruce for the laughs and wedding dress chat). We got carried away and bought two bottles from the wine cave to take home! We 'll be visiting agai...

"I’ve wanted to eat here since I moved north in November and it’ll be the first of many visits from now on. Our first time here with a table for 5 and all sharing meant we tasted a big section of the menu (see images of the menu). Each of the portions was very generous to say the least. What amazed us all we’re the complex flavour combinations. They were slightly weird on some but they all worked and very well too. Alkaline Nachos £10.95 Nachos with marinated baked quinoa, topped with refried beans, cashew sour cream, guacamole, pineapple salsa and pickled red cabbage. All with a smoked cashew cheese drizzle over. They were indulgent, sweeter than I’ve had before and had tangy twist too. BBQ Tacos £9.50 Shredded carrot in an alkaline BBQ sauce in a crispy corn shell, filled with refried beans and guacamole. Topped with pineapple salsa and pickled red cabbage, served with a side salad. Best BBQ tacos in the north so far. Thai Buddy Bowl £10.95 Orange teriyaki chickpea tofu surrounded by, pineapple 'fried ' quinoa, purple coleslaw, a thai side salad, with an almond and ginger dressing and quinoa falafels topped with mango chutney. Crazy flavours that worked really well. This was my favourite dish and I could eat this most days of the week. I’ll be back for this dish on its own. Thai Wrap £9.95 Quinoa and peanut butter falafels in a soft wrap with mango chutney, coleslaw and kimchi served with a thai side salad, with an almond and ginger dressing and pineapple quinoa. A mental combination of ingredients for a falafel but was amazing. Again, sweeter than I’d have imagined. Pink Pitaya Acai Bowl £5.50 A fruity smoothie bowl topped with raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, banana kiwi and coconut (we held the seeds). What an amazing breakfast. A real power breakfast too. Immunity Boost Juice £4.00 (x2) Strawberry, pear, apple and lemon juice. Refreshing and moreish. Tropical Sunrise Smoothie £4.50 Papaya, mango, orange, banana, coconut, maple and cashew smoothie. It was as nice as you’d expect and none of the fruits lost their identity due to the power of another. Peanut Butter and Jelly Smoothie £4.50 Strawberries, banana, peanut butter, maple and lemon smoothie. Another one that doesn’t quite sound right but really does. The peanut butter was not overpowering and provided a nice earthy grainy taste and texture, lifted by the sweetness of the fruit. A great experience and worth the wait. Would I recommend Ohhhhhh Yes"
