We were planning to eat at schenkerla, but the restaurant was completely full. We decided to lunch at this beautiful little restaurant. What a surprise. The attendants were very friendly, we drunk the same shenkerla original rauschbier. We ate a wonderful schnitzel wierner and of course the bratwursts! We recommend.

Literally right next door to where we were staying. In fact we had to pick our key up from there on the first night. Food was traditional Bavarian fayre, I went for pork knuckle with potato dumpling and sauerkraut; it was as good as I was hoping. Service was absolutely fine. And it was cheap. Can't say much more than that!

We went to this restaurant Friday night because everything else was full. The place was rather nice with big tables(a bit difficult for a couple).The food was tasteless and the service was terrible.To order one more beer we had to move our hands to the waitress because noneone was interested .At last we asked for a receipt and we heard that this was not possible.

This is quite a good restaurant in the old town. I liked it because it has proper individual tables (rather than the communal benches so prevalent in Bavaria). I visited on a warm evening, it was possible to sit inside or outside.I had a Wiener Schnitzel (very tasty), and a Rauchbier to drink (not to my taste, but it's the local speciality). Service was prompt and there was an English menu.

We stopped in for a late (2:00 pm) lunch. We had a simple meal of sausages (Bamberger and Nurnberger) with excellent house sauerkraut, mustard, and dark bread. The portions were generous and tasty. I had the "smoke beer" and my wife had a pilsner. The service was very good - friendly and quite prompt. My German is not good, but their English was very good. A very enjoyable part of our day trip to Bamberg. We were pleasantly surprised by the bill E25.00.

We were cruising the streets of Bamberg on foot with a group of twelve, after being turned away by one restaurant we stopped here and they did a great job. The service was good and friendly. They have English (and Russian) menus. At our table three of four had Scauferla... #728 and it was good. The other had Jagerbraten... #724 and this too was good. Naturally the smoked beer had to be sampled but so to the Keller and the Lager.A word of advise - they only take cash!Enjoy.

Let me begin by saying, our waitress was so kind and lovely. She was willing to make changes to the menu for us. We had a wonderful meal of chicken schnitzel, salad and fries. A very generous portion and cooked perfectly. There was a mistake on the bill as I had changed from a salad to a small salad. I saw another salad served and knew I could never eat all that. When the bill came it was billed the regular salad , she instantly corrected that. Not one thing to say negative.

We were hungry enough to overlook the first clue: the place was empty at 8pm. The waitress brought out the wrong orders for three of us (and would not admit the mistake or adjust the bill), brought tap water and charged us for bottled (but couldn't produce a bottle), and tried to overcharge by 7 euros until asked to produce the paper receipt. Food was not more than average and service was slow--I wouldn't ordinarily give a poor review for these issues, but I don't like being cheated.

I can't really rate the food because I only drank wine for lunch. But my wife had a garden salad that was large and varied and she enjoyed it. A liter of wine (shared, of course) and the salad came to 28 Euros. By the way, I've noticed a new phenomenon in Germany at many cafes and restaurants. They no longer serve free "tap" water, even if you just ask for a glass, say with your espresso. Many now charge 50 cents for a glass of what is called "tapfelwasser" (tablewater) or 1.50 euros for a tiny bottle. This is not mineral water, just American-style bottled tap water.
