"Thursday 19th May 2022, my husband and I woke up to a hot and sunny day, so we decided to go out for the day to visit Yarborough House Books in the Shropshire town of Bishops Castle. My husband and I strolled round this pretty town taking lots of photographs of it its interesting buildings. We worked out way up the High Street to the top where we went to visit Yarborough House Books. My husband and I entered within and we mooched round the bookshelves. I did not find anything but my husband found another volume to his Oxford History of England Series, he purchased the book on ‘The Earlier Tudors’ By J.D. Mackie for the bargain price of six pounds, so he was very pleased. Yarborough House Bookshop also has a large stock of second hand classical recordings, which comprises around 4,000 CDs, with a particular emphasis on unusual repertoire, British and 20th century music including opera. The bookshop also has a small café attached, so after mooching round my husband and I indulged in a pot of tea and a latte coffee and a flapjack for my husband. Whilst I was there I found inspiration as I wrote a poem called ‘Home of The Fairy’. My husband and I also had the luxury to meet the owner Carol who moved from London over 40 years ago to start her bookshop in Bishops Castle, she was a very pleasant and warm lady. I read her the poem I had written and she asked me to send her a copy for the Bishops Castle website, I was very touched and honoured by this. If you like books and cakes then this is a nice place to visit if you are in the area."

Great coffee and cake stop during a recent Bishop's Castle Visit, good look around books and CD's too

Had a meal on a Sunday evening which many restaurants don’t offer this was excellent and we’ll definitely come again.

Nice bookshop, range of books to suit all and some music, with a relaxed coffee and range of cakes from the attached cafe.

Decent coffee and cakes, and 1000s of classical CDs and books. Halfway to heaven. Plenty of time to browse and enjoy the bookish atmosphere.

Good coffee and cakes. But what makes this place different is the attached second hand bookshop which also has a large range of CDs, mostly classical music.

The food at this restaurant is top-notch - delicious and beautifully plated. The service is outstanding, with professional and friendly staff who work quickly. I will definitely be returning in the future.

Popped in for coffee and was surprised to discovered it's also a rather large bookshop all in one package. The coffee and cake were lovely and the chance to amble about the attached bookshop was also a joy.

We went to this restaurant on a Sunday evening in mid January. There were only a few other diners present. The staff was attentive and friendly, but we found the menu to be quite limited with limited options. Since there were not many customers, the atmosphere was a bit lacking, which we should have taken into consideration when making a reservation.

What an amazing discovery! The menu had a perfect selection of dishes that all sounded incredible, and we were not disappointed. I started with the Crab, my husband had the Sea Bream Ceviche, and my daughter tried the Baby Veg salad - all were a fantastic start to our meal. For our main courses, we chose the Duck, Rack of Lamb, and Pork fillet. The flavors and textures were perfectly combined, creating outstanding dishes. For dessert, we selected the Toffee Apple Mille Feuille, salted caramel tart, and Strawberry White Chocolate Cheesecake. The salted caramel was heavenly - it was truly the best. The service, presentation, and relaxed atmosphere were all exceptional. This was fine dining wit...

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."
