Very lovely old pub, never been before, and it was lovely

Nice classic pub. Outside seating with gazebo. Good service.

I had a great time at the karaoke night on Friday. The restaurant is very welcoming and has a wonderful atmosphere. I will definitely be returning.

Omg John is a drunk always drinking the place is disgusting and clicky . This place needs a new owner he turns pe away from B&B saying the rooms aren’t ready all because he likes his drink

We arrived at the restaurant early, so there wasn't much of an atmosphere. I believe it may get more lively later in the evening. I didn't try the food, so I can't provide a comment on that. However, they did have a reasonable selection of beers available.

I don't understand how anyone could claim that The Chequers is unwelcoming and accuse the landlord of being a drunk who drinks all day, gives locals tabs, and says the pub looks rundown. It seems like a hypocritical and unfair accusation. It seems like someone has a personal vendetta against the establishment.

We joined on Sunday for a roast which was lovely. I had the vegetarian option and even though the staff member wasn’t aware of what was on the menu or vegetarian options she found out and provided me with suggestions. Very much like the bowls of vegetables separate to the roast! One of the best roast I have ever had with amazing service! Beautiful pub with a great location

It is lovely to be able to still find a traditional style pub. If I go in on my own I feel totally safe. The Landlord and staff are friendly, the drinks are kept very well, the food is really good and great value, a great crisps and nuts snack selection, as well as Gin if that is your thing. The garden is lovely in the summer and it is set right below the Castle, what more could you want.

What a horrible service! I did the mistake to visit the pub with my children. When we sat at the table we moved a vase of flowers out of reach of the children. We didn 't realize that this would cause such a strong reaction to the person who worked there. He came to our table, and without a prior warning, he yelled at my three year old son that the vase was not a toy ! (My son didn 't even touch the vase! I felt horrible and this just ruined our whole lunch. I would not recommend visiting this pub with children, even though they have a children 's option in the menu.
