"Hadn't been there for years and with a few changes in management tried again for a family meal. Sadly felt the food was not that great quality wise. The burgers appeared to be generic bulk buy burgers. The taste was lacking. Overall portion size Vs cost was not good value. Others in the group had other items which they did seem to like and the portions were better. I perhaps just made the mistake of ordering the burger option."

"Popped out to the White Horse on a week night at about 7pm for a bite to eat after having enjoyed a nice lunch a few weeks before. Went into the lounge and got a nice booth in the corner with a large group of guys socialising in the middle of the room. After a considerable wait, the waiter approached to take a drinks order. The wait for anyone to approach was so long that we considered just leaving there and then but we stuck around. And when our food arrived we were glad we did.All three of us really enjoyed what we had to eat and it was clean plates all round good quality pub grub. So we were now sitting with our empty plates... and we waited... and waited. No one came near so we had to approach the waiter who was now behind the bar. He then summoned a colleague who eventually approached and half heartedly took our coffee order. This then came, was fine enough and finished and then another long wait until we again approached the bar for the bill.Upon mentioning our appreciation of the food but disappointment with the service, the waitress spoke to the manager who offered a free round of drinks. Fair enough but we were ready to go home.Would we return again? Given the quality of the food we’d give it another go. We obviously caught things on a bad night as many reviews here mention the friendly service in particular. But our enjoyment was marred on this occasion."

"Recently one of my favourite clubs broke at the bottom of the shaft. I bought a replacement but yearned to have the old one repaired. On a visit to Dunes driving range which is one of the three excellent facilities in our area I asked Sam if the club was repairable. Within an hour Sam had it fixed and the following day I had it well and truly tried out on OldMeldrums long but forgiving holes . Cheers for getting my club another lease of life. I’ll know where to come for repairs and driving range practice in winter time."

"Walked in group of 8 ok it was busy at the time so there was a little wait for the table. Sat down and ordered at the till to then wait 25-30 mins for our food. I understand when your busy it can be a bit of a wait but when a table of 5 and a table of 4 come in after us order and get their food before us is unacceptable. Then i find a hair in my COLD chips litterally just out of the fryer apparently. NOT ON! said to the staff No refund No appology but asked if i would want more ehh NO THANKS...also the garbage outside is disgusting dog poop bags at the front door of your cafe... very hygenic indeed ... i will not be back to this place!!!"

"We visit every winter and love the atmosphere, and the owner and staff are very friendly. The food is good, wholesome and local. The underfloor heating and fire are most welcome when it's -10 outside with a foot of snow. Sandie even lays on a supply of my favourite wine when we are in town. I'm known as Mrs Tiddywiddywell because of it!"

"bought two fish sauces tonight and wish I hadn't disturbed. very greasy soggy battery, most of it went into the bin. phoned and talked to the owner, and he said that the teig might have been too thick. certainly with all the years they have. have traded, they would make sure that the teig is correct. as I told him, I won't be back. it's an expensive tasty bite that it wasn't worth."

"This charming café offers delicious homemade food at affordable prices. Although I didn't intend on having dessert, I couldn't resist when I saw it displayed in the cabinet. The portions are generous, the food is top-notch, and the prices are exceptional. If you're in Banff, this place is definitely worth a visit."

"always great to be picked into the warm and friendly society of attentive staff and enormous food. they will find a menu full of old favorite and dishes that soon belong to them, also some great vegetarian decisions that are worth their attention. it is to be noted that our children do not call it steading! they only call it wendys! that I tell you more than I can."

"We dropped by for a quick lunch on Monday, March 29th, 2021. I ordered an egg mayo and onion sandwich and my partner had a cheese and tuna sandwich, both on white bread. They were freshly made, and we enjoyed them sitting in the square. The egg mayo was tasty and the bread was fresh with generous fillings. The tuna and cheese was also delicious. We had great service from a friendly woman. We will definitely return!"

"My wife and I were travelling up North, feeling hungry as it headed to lunch time. We phoned ahead to book a table in case of a lunchtime rush. The table was kept for us. We had a beautiful light lunch. Paninis for both of us. Cheese and ham, which my wife enjoyed, for myself, haggis, and cheese, which was wonderful. Staff were friendly and efficient. Nice, cosy atmosphere, and good prices. Would recommend to anyone if you're hungry pop in and enjoy The Villa Coffe Shops menu. Will be back next time we pass. Mr Mrs MacDonald"

"Been a few times over the years and unfortunately it’s not at the standard it was years ago . Went for brunch today restaurant was not busy , probably half full . Items were missing from our order so we had to ask for those . Unfortunately the customer service leaves a lot to be desired very poor and slow with unmotivated staff . No manager in place to keep an over view .? Never asked if everything was okay with the meal . Staff took the dishes away and we asked for more coffees, waitress said she would come back with the order pad .... waited 15 mins ... asked another waitress... coffee arrived... waited on the bill , ignored by staff again . Such a shame as it’s a beautiful setting and the gift shop is fantastic, but customers are paying good money for a standard of food look for pleasant efficient staff . There are lots of great coffee shops in Aberdeenshire, unfortunately this one is not on my list anymore."

"After a slight wait to be acknowledged by the staff, we were eventually seated by a very nice lady. Unfortunately, our experience went downhill from there. We ordered our meals and were asked to pay immediately by our unfriendly server. When we questioned this, we were told it was how our waitress preferred to do things. We paid and then waited and waited. Only two out of the three meals arrived, and when we inquired about the missing meal, we were told that this was not bad. We had to ask for cutlery from a neighboring table as none was provided. The order was incorrect and the meals had lost some temperature by the time the missing one arrived. We ordered hot drinks and were surprised that we did not have to pay upfront, but this was due to a different waitress. The lukewarm food prevented us from forming an opinion on the taste. Although we did not complain, we noted to avoid this place in the future. If meeting with friends, we sometimes have to go with the flow. I may give this place another chance, but I will not be recommending it anytime soon."

"Went here with friends for coffee, tea and cakes. Everything we had was lovely and served by friendly staff. We sat inside which was nice and relaxing with nice music playing in the background. Would definitely recommend and will be returning."

"Terrible. The manager is a bully, to staff and customers. He is rude, immature and horrid. That's all I can say. He shouted at a customer's son because he fell. The floor was extremely slippy and wet, not the child's fault. He just so horrible...and mean. Can't stand him. The way he looks at and treats customers is truly sickening. Ruined my visit to Fraserburgh. Truly horrid and the place stinks. I had visited once in February and got served by a lovely little waitress with pink hair. I saw how rude the manager was to her, he actually reduced her to tears with how harsh he was. I couldn't believe it but I thought it was a once off. I came back to see that waitress gone. If i'm being honest, she was the only one who did her job. The others just sat on their phone and did nothing. Horrible, horrible place. Don't go."

"Went as a family for a Sunday dinner. The roast dinner was not what I expected. The roast beef was on the dry side, the roast potatoes were like out of a freezer as was the 1 parsnip that was on the plate. The Yorkshire pudding seemed like it was also out of the freezer, a few vegetables scattered along with a small amount of stuffing. It wasn’t that bad as to send back but certainly not a treat as I expected from a chef. The New Yorker was described as hunters chicken by Son, edible but again nothing special . The dessert Eaton mess was some tinned apples in a sauce with cream and broken up meringue, seemed very amateur. When I go out for a meal I expect for us to have a lovely experience , this was not what we had. The chef needs to do better, just didn’t seem like the time was taken to cook a meal from scratch , judging by their prices then they should do better and people would come back for more, The waitresses were very good at their job, the chef/cook should take a leaf out of their book."

"I recently revisited this restaurant after several years and had the smoked haddock supper again. It was just as delicious as I remembered. The fish was of superb quality, cooked perfectly with a crispy batter, and served with lovely chips. The restaurant was bustling with both dine-in and takeaway customers, but the staff did a great job of keeping up with demand. The wait was definitely worth it. My only regret is that I live far away and can only enjoy this meal occasionally. The price of £9.25 was a great value for such a tasty dish."

"I came here on Wednesday night with the wife. We came because there was a ‘buy one get one free’ offer which is outstanding value for money. I had the chicken burger which was sublime. It came with chunky chips and a spicy dipping sauce....The wife went for the steak burger which she scoffed. The bill came to £15 for two people which is tremendous... so good we immediately made another booking for next week so we can bring our friends with us! There is plenty of parking outside, and the restaurant is beside Thainstone Mart for those new to the area. There is free WiFi, and a Trace Trace system upon arrival. The waitresses were all very helpful and friendly, the only minor quibble is that service was a bit slow e.g. we weren’t given menus when we were seated, and the food took around 40 minutes to arrive after ordering. Overall we had a very good experience and we are looking forward to our next visit."

"My wife and myself had a rare visit to Aberdeen yesterday Sep After our business was finished we decided to take some of our old roads back to our home in Aberlour, as we used to live in the area back in the...eighty's. We had hoped to get something to eat in Udny, but my wife seen the sign for the Barn Coffee Shop and we decided to give it a try for some lunch, when we got there, being a gorgeous day, we decided to eat outside. You weren't very busy, with one other couple who were finished eating, sitting outside . We placed our order for the grilled sausage with onions and a BLT toasted sandwich, an alcohol free cider and an Americano. We waited over half an hour before our order arrived and when my foot long sausage was presented to me I was quite taken back! I immediately said to the waitress (a dark haired young lady) What's happened to my onions, I thought there were supposed to be included with this dish! The couple of frazzled up items (that bore little resemblance to an onion, probably deep fried far too long) barely visible on the bun (this also totally dry, with no butter or any form of lubrication to allow one to actually consume it The waitress just laughed and walked away. She later arrived with some sauces (very much needed if one was going to actually eat it). I had had to fast from the day before for a procedure I attended Aberdeen for and was very much looking forward to having some food to break my fast. I again asked the same waitress, “What's the story with the lack of onions with this sausage”? She repeated her laugh and again just walked away! I put some mustard and some tomato sauce on the bun and tried again to enjoy it. A short time later the waitress passed and for the third time I again said that this was not acceptable and there were supposed to be at least onions with the sausage! Again a laugh and she actually said she would tell the chief! I thought at least we would get to the bottom of the missing onions! But to my horror she just went and leant on the reception counter and spent the entire time we tried to eat our food, not going near the kitchen or the chef! My wife’s BLT didn't fare much better, as this was supposed to be crispy, the bacon was cold very fatty non crispy bacon but it was also very much lacking in tomato's for some reason! My wife is a catering manager having professionally trained in catering and business management. All in all it was a very disappointing lunch on such a beautiful day. We are not normally ones for complaining but with the appalling food and service we received. I sent this to the owner and was asked to give my phone number. This I did but over a month later nothing !"

"On arrival I entered the shop and was greeted by a somewhat dull individual with an out of town accent. I placed my order for 3 F&C and 1 Chips which I then paid £28 for.....In addition I asked for 4 cans of Coke...another £6 £1:50 each.... I went outside and sat down with my friends waiting on our food. To my amazement the guy came out looking for more money as he maintained he calculated incorrectly.... i questioned it but didn 't argue...we had been Munro bagging so we 're tired and hungry so I paid the £4 he asked for ...I then asked him for some salt and vinegar and ketchup x 2 which he tried to charge me £1:50 each for and when I politely outlined my dismay at how he had made a complete mess of things as it were he then wanted to charge me £3 for 2 ketchup bowls I was shocked. His attitude then changed for the worst as he raised his voice telling us he didn 't set the prices and if we didn 't like it then we could go elsewhere.... when we said we wouldn 't be back he snidely remarked he couldn 't care less as he had loads of passing customers....to top it off the chips were hard like they had been cooked and reheated a couple of times, the fish was dripping with grease and was tasteless too...overall a dreadful place, with dreadful food and dreadful service all the while extortionate prices....stay away from this rip off merchant"
