"Basic, ‘lazy’ unoriginal food; great for those people who are more than happy with a pizza or a burger and chips and are not too discerning. We booked a table for my birthday as friends were visiting. The menu is nothing special, consisting of the usual meat pie, numerous types of burgers, fish and chips etc. Hubby opted for the ribs which came with a very dry cornbread (he thought it was stuffing of some kind! My friend’s hubby chose the liver and onions which comprised of a slab of liver, mash and half an onion. He like us, assumed the liver would be seasoned and sliced, not a whole slab served up. He said he found it unappetising. Vegetarian options are very limited; veggie burger, veggie sausage, veggie lasagne or butternut squash and chickpea dhal. I opted for the latter (as veggie burgers and sausages I can pick up at the supermarket for a couple of pound so why would I pay over the odds for something so unimaginative? The dhal tasted like it contained a Patak sauce from a jar with a few chickpeas thrown in and a chunk of roasted squash. I couldn’t taste any garlic. The meal wasn’t awful just average. I’ve made dhal at home many times and mine tastes far better. Longer to prepare but better. We don’t eat out that often as choices in pubs seem to be limited to so called British Classics, mainly burgers or anything else which is quick and easy to heat up. I do understand that it is a case of supply and demand and that unfortunately a lot of customers nowadays have very low expectations when eating out. Many think a burger in a bun with some fried chips is wonderful. Sorry this was not a meal to remember for us."

"Absolutely amazing pub with a great amosphere. Martin and John who run it are friendly and warm guys incredibly welcoming and always have a chat at the bar. The staff who work alongside them are literally the friendliest and warmest bunch of staff i have ever met. Nothing is too much for them they serve with a smile and are as chatty as the owners. The best part about this pub is its LGBT freindly. Me and my partner felt so welcome and not judged like in other pubs. No one stared or asked questions or said anything, no smart comments from anyone. Now the food! literally, we have been to so many chain pubs you wouldnt believe. This place...the food...STUNNING! i had THE BEST stilton and brocolli soup ive ever had in my life it tasted of all the ingredients not just the cheese. The lamb shank was out of this world. So tender fall off the bone. The gravy was the best ive ever tasted, the greens were cooked al dente just how they should do and the mash was delicious! I honestly am making this place my regular even though its about 20 mile from my home. Its worth the trip and trust me...you wont be disappointed!!! All the food is priced so its affordable in fact id had paid more for my lamb shank it was cooked that well! they have a fantastic range of Ale's on pump which is something i really notice in a pub it wasnt the usual case of a choice between carling, fosters san miguel. This place has it all and i would definately recommend it to anyone in the area!!!"

"We choose this spot because of the many positive reviews. I guess we turned up on a bad day!I have only been introduced to coffee a few years ago despite being in my mid 50’s and really don’t like coffee unless a well made flat white. I travel the world frequently for work and always ask the same question, can you make a flat white? The reason being unless the person is a passionate barista I rarely get a coffee I enjoy. This question clearly upset the lady serving us who ‘rolled her eyes out loud’ by the question and then represented the request to her colleague in a manner that was more like ‘we have a pain in the arse’ than ‘can we make this gentleman a nice coffee. (Yes we overheard).Everything was fine except the flat white was a milky coffee and not something I enjoyed. Not a problem though. I never said a word but when asked at the counter how things were I thought I would say everything was good except the ‘flat white’. Immediately confronted by both in very hostile way was very surprising as I was only answering a question I thought they were interested in hearing I placed a review on their website and their response is a really good example of their attitude. Instead of focusing on service recovery they wanted to blame me and absolve themselves of any responsibility.I of course mentioned this to a few people in Sleaford and surprise surprise was met with very similar responses, ‘we don’t go there anymore as the staff can be very rude’ Looking forward to seeing how the proprietors decide to respond to this one."

"The outstanding customer service started a week before our booking! I contacted the restaurant to ask if they would be able to prepare a main course dish that was not on the menu. They were so helpful! Not only was the chef able to accommodate, but also offered to prepare my favourite dish being beef Wellington. On the day of the meal, the hotel telephoned to ask if my husband would also like to have the beef Wellington as well. I’ve never known such outstanding customer service.. we felt incredibly special from the outset. The entire experience on the evening was phenomenal! The service could not have been more attentive and the dining room itself .. beautiful, just stunning. The food is the pièce de résistance .. this was without doubt the best meal I’ve ever had in a restaurant, not just locally but anywhere. I started with the ‘Parsnip Thyme Velouté, Lardo Warm Soda’ which was absolutely delicious. Then came the main, the beef Wellington with truffle mash and jus which was just stunning. The presentation was a work of art, and the taste and flavours were just divine. This is my favourite dish and I have ordered it in many restaurants around the world over the years, none have compared to Washingborough Hall. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. This is not just a meal out, this is a dining and culinary experience you will not forget."
