"We have eaten at all the main places in rhayader and the crown is easily hands down the best. Amazing , friendly and welcoming staff who seem genuinely pleased to have you there and the food..... well the food is incredible. The best pub grub...we've ever had. We had the salmon and the leg of lamb, both cooked to perfection, very flavoursome and the portions are generous, just the right amount. . The mash was gorgeous and the vegetables, very fresh and varied. We really could not fault it at all, it was flawless. I always put sauce on every meal that I have but not at the crown ,its not needed, as it's so tasty "

"We have had two Sunday lunches here recently whilst our kitchen was being fitted. The meat is always sooooo tender and good portions. The service is very good even though they are always busy. Our daughter rated their Nut Roast as being one of the best she’s ever had in a restaurant. Very lucky to have this on our doorstep. Oh, and dogs are very welcome everywhere."

"This was my second time visiting, and this time I took my children. The waitress was quick to see to us when we arrived and take our drinks order, that came in no time. I ordered myself a toastie 2 Childrens meals , after 40 minutes I asked where the order was, a waitress chased it up told us another 10 mins. By this time my young children were becoming restless and bored, we waited another 10 minutes and then decided we would leave. Fortunately they advised the food was ready and that they would box it up for us. It was really disappointing , there were a few complaints while we were there, long waits for food etc. the waitress were busy and polite, but I’ve no idea what the chef kitchen staff were doing to take nearly an hour to make a toastie and 2 burgers! The only up side is that when we eventually got home to eat our “takeout” the food was very nice."

"We were going for a couple of pints In our motorhome with our 2 dogs unfortunately the pub does not allow dogs, so we left. Whilst i scored the pub a low score for my experience i feel this may be unfair as I did not get to experience the pub. However for a pub to succeed they need to embrace all opportunities and with a year round camping and carravanning site Fforest Fields on their doorstep they may be missing a trick. Around 50% of this glorious camp site has dogs and in my 35 years experience of camping and carravanning WE love a pub close to the site and always go for meals and drinks if we are welcome especially with our dogs. The Hundred House Inn may miss out on a lot of custom from this site."

"After the first bite, I found a capsicum seed. The second bite revealed a hair. During my madras curry, I discovered another hair towards the end. The quality of the food has really declined since Sonny's departure, and I have been a loyal customer for over 15 years. I recommend avoiding this restaurant. The price of £50 for two people was a rip off. Overall, the meal was disappointing with a rating of 1 for food, service, and atmosphere."

"I don't even know where to begin with this review! Firstly, the pub itself is absolutely stunning, both inside and out, and with the beautiful backdrop of The Brecon Beacons, it is in a truly picturesque location. We traveled half an hour from Swansea to visit, and it was definitely worth the drive. The warm welcome we received, along with the cozy log burner, made us feel right at home. The food was diverse and delicious, with classic favorites like burgers and fish and chips, as well as a tasty curry. Unfortunately, I couldn't quite make it to dessert, so I'll have to come back to try it out. The beer selection, including two great local brews, was perfect, and I only wish I were staying at the pub so I could try them all. What really stood out, though, was the friendly welcome from the locals – a big thank you to everyone who made us feel so at home. Special thanks to the fantastic Kirsty for recommending this gem to us. The only downside? It's not my local pub, and I really wish it was, as it's the perfect spot for me. I'll just have to find a reason to make the 170-mile trip back."

"The service was slow, the atmosphere was lacking with a plastic marquee in a carpark, dirty plates left on the table with soiled tablecloths, and staff more focused on chatting than providing good service. I asked for a coffee and found it 10 minutes later, cold on the counter. The prices were too high for the quality of the experience. I will not be returning to this restaurant, despite it being located in a charming village by the river Usk. Overall ratings: Food 2, Service 1, Atmosphere 1. Service: Dine-in Meal type: Brunch Price per person: £10-20."

"Nice holiday lunch for a family of non-vegetarians. This friendly and casual place is a Llanidloes institution and from its 'hippy ' inceptions 40 or 50 years ago, it 's become all very mainstream nowadays. Some 1970s quirks remain, though, like the bullet-proof, no doubt wholemeal pastry used for the quiche, but whose filling was delicious. Baked potato, like the quiche, was accompanied by three interesting salads of choice. Less appreciated were the pure-plant vegan burgers which were reported as very dry. Good if slightly erratic service but all very friendly and relaxed as you might expect. Very nice tea."

"My daughter brought me to this cafe for coffee. When I went to the counter to place my order, I was told abruptly that it was table service, even though the person in front of me had just placed an order. I went outside and eventually had to ask for service. The only gluten-free food available was cake, while my daughter ordered Welsh rarebit. Our drinks arrived, but after 20 minutes, I had to ask the waitress where the Welsh rarebit was. The service was lacking, but the young waitress was pleasant. A few suggestions for the cafe: have a sign clearly stating that table service is available, have notices for reserved tables, and offer more gluten-free options beyond cake. Hopefully, the new management will improve soon. This cafe has potential in its lovely setting, but it just needs better management during busy times."

"I have been to this restaurant many times over the years. This time, we had to wait to be seated in the cafe which was not ideal because we missed the displays of cakes and cold drinks. We only wanted cake and drinks, so we had to go back to the counter to choose our cakes, grab a cold drink, and order, as well as wait for a hot drink. We ended up waiting for a while for non-existent table service. The waitress who showed us to our table did not inform us that we needed to order at the counter. The salt shaker was sticky, but the tables were clean. The laminated menus were a good idea, perhaps adding a yellow background for better readability for visually impaired customers. The Butty Bach beer in the cooler was not as cool as expected, but still drinkable. However, the cakes were delicious - my Cappuccino cake had a strong coffee flavor that I loved. My husband enjoyed his large Mocha and his "very chocolatey" Haystack cake, which was similar to a soft and moist flapjack. The toilets were exceptionally clean as always, and the paintings for sale in the corridor were a nice touch. The atmosphere in the cafe was pleasant, but the air conditioning was on full blast, making it too cold."

"Wow! We had an amazing experience at the restaurant last night. The dining room was beautifully decorated and the lighting and atmosphere were perfect. Our server was charming and professional, and did a fantastic job managing all of the tables. The food was the best we've had in years - a perfect combination of flavors, expertly prepared and presented. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant more often. Thank you to the staff for a wonderful evening. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5"

"Ordered a takeaway for 10 people. I do like Indian food, however, my local family, seem to think a good Indian includes more chips than rice. They also don’t order anything which is traditional Indian, such as vindaloo, hot curries, they go for a mild butter chicken and garlic and cheese nan, revolting. I have to push then to try vegetable samosa’s, chicken tikka, and tandoori chicken. They bypass such dishes, no problem more for me. Overall the takeaway was ok, it’s not the restaurant fault that my local family have chips and more chips. A true Indian restaurant should not be offering chips."

"We only had dinner in the restaurant and the food was really good. Nearby activities: I went up the hill to see the castle ruins. The view from up there is magnificent! The walk, even though it's steep isn't that long and I am glad we didn't drive up. I also visited a shop that sells absolutely everything and anything. It's like stepping back in time to when I was a kid. I loved chatting to the owner and seeing all the different hardware and ceramics, garden tools, kitchen ware, you name it, this shop will have it. Can't remember the name of the shop but there's only one. Safety: It's a sleepy little town and you are perfectly safe there. Food drinks: Food was good."
"After me and my partner made 4 random stops here for lunch we knew that the food was good and the staff very friendly. With this track record it seemed the prefect venue for a celebratory lunch for 25 friends and 4 well behaved dogs. It was easy to plan the menu choices and availability by email and I just provided 90% of the menu choices 2 days in advance. On the day car parking was easy and friends travelling by train or staying overnight in Welshpool were able to stroll up through the town to The Raven Inn. Pre-lunch drinks in the bar satisfied every palate with tasty fresh coffee, a range of Real Ales, wines and soft drinks. Plenty of room to stand, sit and chat, a real fire log-burner and dog biscuits on the bar. With 25 of us we had a reserved dining area in the old part of the building and shortly after I had seated everyone, the starters began to be brought to the tables. Eight different starters satisfied the diners with their engaging presentation and satisfying taste. Then the main courses arrived with the personalise steaks, sausages relished by our Swiss friends, Braised Faggots from the butchers in Welshpool, fish and curries. Particular praise was from the lucky diners who had chosen the pan-fried duck breast, what large ducks they must have been! With the bar handy on two side it was easy to keep hydrated and help wash down the wonderful food. The finale was the appearance of the desserts, brilliant like finely costumed dancers with the Amaretto Creme Brulee and the Dacqouise looking as spectacular as they tasted. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we really felt carefree and cared for. Congratulations to all the front of house staff and the wizards in the kitchen who were the creative powerhouse. The dogs particularly enjoyed the walk along the river bank that ran from the Raven bridge upstream through the fields across from the railway."

"After reading the reviews and having this pub recommended to us by a couple of locals I can only say how very disappointed we were with the quality of what we were served at such an extortionate price. Pizza night yeah I understand you...may need to serve a limited menu but you could have advised us of this when we booked. I wish I’d taken a photo. A veggie pizza, cherry tomatoes cut in half with slithers of red pepper, soggy base covered with cheese, with equally vile chips. I could have bought better at the supermarket. The final blow- charged nearly for pizzas and a couple of drinks. Totally shocked that people think that is acceptable to serve such poor quality food at that price. On a positive the young girls serving were very polite and personable."

"Recommended by a friend. Went for Sunday lunch. Was told it can be quite busy so we booked. Wife doesn't eat red meat and doesn't like mushrooms, so we had to ask if the chef could cook her some chicken, which they agreed to do, which was nice. No bread with the mushroom soup, so I had to ask for some. Scotch egg starter was plain and had no taste. Was overpowered by the apple ketchup. Chicken main course was amazing, cooked so well and beautiful veg. Beef looked nice, but was a bit tough and I gave up chewing it. Bit disappointing. Told the staff when they collected the plates, but no response and nothing taken off the bill either. Lovely pub inside, but found the atmosphere flat and no music! And some bulbs out !the staff hardly spoke and weren't very friendly. Don't think we will rush back here anytime soon. Vegetarian options: One Sunday lunch option, which was mushroom risotto Parking: Ample parking across road from pub Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp leading to entrance"
