"I booked a table for 10 people for Saturday 27th of January for my birthday and 2 of my friends. When we arrived the table didn’t even seat 10 people like what I booked for. We had to pull about extra chairs. I wanted to confirm the table was booked for 10 people all week and left several voicemails on the slug and lettuce phone and no one called me back. I did end up having confirmation the table was for 10 people from a friend that worked there. So never received a call back. My friend wasn’t on shift that night otherwise I’m sure our experience would have been a lot more of a positive one. She’s lovely! But the night we had was no so great, it took at least 30 mins to get a drink, food was an hour wait and people around us was complaining it was cold. One of my friends who’s birthdays if was received a free drink for their birthday but myself and my other friend didn’t. The toilets were absolutely disgusting, most of which didn’t have toilet roll and some didn’t even have a toilet seat. They was not clean either. We then asked for a cocktail tree but was told we couldn’t have it because there wasn’t enough staff to make it! There was 3 members of staff on a busy Saturday night, there should of been more staff to cater for how many bookings there clearly was. There was several other birthdays in there and were clearly struggling to serve everyone, I would understand if we just turned up but this was pre booked and therefore should of been catered for. Overall service was very slow, we was not appropriately catered for and was just disappointed as this was for my birthday and 2 of my close friends. Worse experience in there by far."

"Visited yesterday for some lunch and ordered over the app, we were sitting outside and the app wouldn’t allow us to order to tables so we left a message on the order to say where we were sat. Drinks arrived promptly without issue. After waiting over an hour for food we asked how much longer it would be. We were told that there has been a lot of orders on the app so the kitchen was running behind. After 90 minutes, half the family (who did the same thing with a message on the app) received their food. We were still left waiting. I queried with the very hard working girl at the bar who did apologise and gave us free drinks, saying the pizzas were just being put in. Another 30 minutes and they still hadn’t arrived. My partner went inside and to find out what was happening to be told that the food went to the wrong table and just gave us a refund. Problem was we had two children who were really hungry after waiting 2 hours for their pizza. My mother in law then went in to ask if we could actually have some foods and after another 15 minutes the pizzas arrived. Fair enough we had one round of free drinks and we were refunded but it was more the issue of being told we weren’t getting the food and had to ask for a second time. In there defence, I believe the app was new and wasn’t working well and it was very busy, but I don’t think the issue was handled very well. Won’t be back Billy Winters."

"An truly superb pub, a real gem and a wonderful find. There's a bit of a story behind this one so indulge me if you will. We (17 large men) had decided to do the Weymouth to Swanage coastal walk in 2 days. After 20 miles in one day we were broken and decided to call off the rest. So the following day back at our campsite we decided a pub lunch would be a welcome treat. We looked online and came across a local pub The Royal Standard. We called and asked if they would accommodate 17 hungry lads which of course they could! We turned up to find the outside area set up exclusively for us, with a lovely lunch menu. The food was amazing all ordered at the same time and all came out together 17 meals with sides and drinks. I had the Burger with cheese and bacon beautifully cooked and presented double stacked burger, thick bacon, cheddar cheese, served with onion rings and chips. Among other orders were ham egg and chips, fried fish and chips, chicken salad, and many more. A wonderfully accommodating team and a passionate chef who takes huge pride in his food! And so well priced and reasonable. You'll find in the area that prices especially on the coast can be high and dare I say overpriced but not at The Royal Standard the team here are dedicated to real food for real prices. Can not recommended enough. Once again, thanks to the team from the 17 blokes that descended upon you and cleared you out! Great pub!"
