Alte Herrlichkeit - Menu

We called in here on Schnitzel night (Monday) after most other places were busy or closed. Excellent hosts, the local beer and a very reasonably priced meal, with all 7 guests polishing off their meals!

After a late lunch in another place, we decided to try coffee and pudding here. The service was good and coffee almost perfect. The apple strudel was the best we had at the age. Fresh fruit, crispy pastries, apple chips, cream glazing and ice cream

This is a the classic German pub you can find in most towns and cities. Not pretentious or geared to the tourist. Populated by locals as well as visitors enjoying good hospitality, good wholesome un-fussy food and traditional German beer at sensible prices served in a friendly manner - what more could you want

Been there on a monday, Schnitzelday. The restaurant looks very fancy but The owner can be rude to his guests... First you think its funny until he's offending you... Ordered a Wiener Schnitzel, got a Mushroom sauce Schnitzel. The owner tries very hard to sell it as being your fault... Top tip number one: go a few Doors further to The Lütticher Hof. For The same price you even get a fine salad with your meal!

Luckily we came early (2 couples) and were immediately seated in the far corner at the window overlooking the small Rur river. The restaurant is centrally located in old town and typically German in that it has a lot of wood. We each ordered a different schnitzel and all thought theirs to be very good. Service was friendly and prompt. Some of us spoke some German so communication was not a problem. The price was right. No complaints whatsoever.

Had lunch after a rainy walk in the hills around Monschau. The nice waitor cleared the best table for us at the corner windows. Our dog got a bowl of water when he served us two delicious "Zwickies". A local beer. We choose the two different trout. Ardenner and oven mediterrane. And had two extra beers. We got soupe and a large salad along with the main courses. The caramel/nut parfait for my fiancee and a Calvados for me finished the perfect meal off.

We had a couple of meals at the Alte Herrlichkeit. Of all the restaurants we went to in Monscahu it was the best. You need to book though! The food was great I went for the 'Schnitzel ' twice (no sauce just salad) as it was superb maybe an unadventurous choice, but still it was good and not all Schnitzels are. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and relaxing, the staff are friendly, attentive and the owner takes great pride in his work. Very professional.

This is a typical German resto in downtown Monschau. The interior is fairly original. As some other folks here on Tripadvisor have been nagging a bit old fashion. But a point of taste (by the way: the bathrooms are very modern; located downstairs). Nice view at the waterside, so get a table at the large windows. Service is friendly; the waiter is in for a conversation. We heard him trying to conversate in English with Spanish guests. Food is good. Excellent price-quality. We will be back here, and feel sorry for the touristnaggers here on TA.

I have been to this restaurant twice now on visits to Monschau and both times were perfect. Coming from Chicago, a great restaurant city, I have been to a wide range of places and enjoyed my experience here so much that I was excited to return. The menu is just the right size with items for all tastes but not overwhlmingly large. On this visit I started with cheese rolled in proscuitto with salad and it was just beautiful. The presentation was as good as the taste. The portion was generous and the dressing on the salad was in perfect balance with the richness of the cheese and meat.Next came the duck with red cabbage and dumpling.
