"looking for a classic German beer garden experience? this is the one to come to.the Alter Hammer is a favorite meeting spot for locals, (my in-laws have been coming here and meeting friends here for years) and you'll understand why -- it's a great location right by the river (the Rhine) and has a huge outdoor area where you can enjoy the river views and people watching. it's ideal for kids, as there is plenty of space to run around and explore within view of the tables. it's an easy walk from the sights of Speyer or by bike.it's a typical Biergarten menu & prices; you do pay for the view a little bit, but it's not at all touristy-overpriced. food is decent, and there's good variety. great beers and wurst (sausage). there are a few vegetarian options.TIP: if it's a crowded day (esp. summertime) and you see some spots open at a table that's occupied, simply ask politely if you can join. people are generally friendly, and culturally it's totally normal to share a table with strangers if there are places free."

Beautiful surrounding by the river, big terasse and many tables. Shadow and nice breeze from the river made it awesome on a hot, sunny day. Basic, good food. Salads are very big and tasty.

What a gem! We Googled this place before the trip and were not dissapointed. Great view over the river, good Eichbaum beer and tasty food with good price. Very popular with the locals so it can't be bad. Would go again. Visualizza piatti

We were defeated by the crowds at our first attempt to get close on a warm summer's evening but managed to get in for lunch a couple of days later. Strangely we found no disabled parking bays in the vicinity. The setting by the river is lovely, and the place was deservedly busy with people having a good time. The food was good- typical German- and the service especially friendly.

After walking around Speyer, we wanted a little refreshment and our German friends suggested Alter Hammer. It was very busy, but there was a large table with only 2 people, so we asked if the 4 of us could join them - no problem! My friend said the people in the Pfalz region are very friendly and don't mind to share a table. It was a pleasant location to enjoy the beautiful day along the river, with so many out strolling and enjoying the day. I discovered the Obazda (a cheese onion spread) and pretzel - delicious!

We arrived in the pouring rain, after taking a stroll along the river from Speyer Tecknic museum. When we got there the restaurant was full with only tables available outside. We took the last table under the umbrellas and order local beers which were very good and also food which was equally good. It rained and blow all while we were there but we stayed dry and had a good evening, Pity the sun didnt shine and that the Rhine River was so flooded, especially on the far side of the river bank. Well worth a visit but think it would be very busy on a sunny evening. They do not take any debit or credit cards, cash only. Visualizza piatti

This restaurant and Biergarten has always been a popular destination for all our family since the '60s. One can just have a beer and watch the barges on the river Rhein or have a full meal indoors or outdoors. The menue is varied but mainly traditional German, Bavarian and Pfaelzisch.I am vegetarian and I always find something delicious., e.g. Kartoffeltaschen. It is a popular place and I would advice to reserve a table if you want to sit indoors, especially in the colder months. The atmosphere can vary depending on the time of the year as it gets very busy in the summer months. Still the service we got was always friendly and efficient. My father lives in a nursing home now but still loves to...

A group of 18 friends decided to visit the cathedral at Speyer and after a lot of walking, this restaurant looked like a great place to have a lunch. We sat outside as inside was full. The restaurant is just adjacent to the Rhine river. As we sat, we could see the passenger boats ply by. My friends ordered lots of different types of drinks - mostly beer. For the main course I ordered Maultaschen, a turkey based ravioli. Price was €10.20. It wasn't want I expected but turned out pretty good even so. It's like a fried wanton/momo kind of dish with minced turkey. My son ordered the beef rump steak. Cost € 18.90. They cooked it too dry. The salads were great too.Our waitress was not the most acco...

"I am not a pingelier visitor and certainly not sensitive, but that was one of the worst restaurant visits I have ever experienced. even if only of very short duration. we were on the way to 5 in speyer and 2 of us had the slemmer block. we had previously looked at what there are in speyer on restaurant options and then decided to la luna. that is the 2nd year that we use the block and so far it has always worked completely without any problems - even without a reservation. from the outside, the la luna made a very nice impression, if we were not sure whether it was made, because it is in the backyard and you only see a sushi shop from the front. when we entered the restaurant, the wed has stopped us with a hand held up and waited. We have, of course, also succeeded. Although this was not really full locally, he has pushed us two smaller tables together and left us outside beside the fountain. the terrace is okay, more but not. when the service came, the fun went off, and she handed us the menus. we told her that we had the slemmer block and tilted her mood. in the way they murmured something from 'they had to book with us before', as far as so good. 5 minutes later, he said that we were going to the table: "we don't take a slemmer block. they should have booked with us in advance. we don't take it off." we have also taken this, even though we were unable to understand the argumentation. He wants to be reserved - but not to say that you have the block - and if you come and have the block, it's okay. but not without reservation. he then left us alone to advise us. what we did. However, after 5 minutes he was right back and instead of letting it be good, he had to ride on the thema again. at this time we had decided to stay as a group and simply accept it. Finally we wanted to have a nice evening and it was only about 1 main dish. tja, who would then discuss that he could understand our opinion, but that that would be his, and that he would like to be consciously in his restaurant and not to "cheap". At some point, a discussion was created, because it became increasingly unofficial and had absolutely lost itself in the dead. he was not in a position to conduct a factual discussion and has also addressed us personally. we should've been studying decent, we could understand. he thinks only as a businessman and the slinger block is damaging to him, he only makes losses. that he has been there for 4 years, then had a light thread in taste. this year would be the last and they would stand out. After we were allowed to listen to other unharmed talks and we had no more pleasure to let ourselves be fooled by the side, we finally left. the complete local has got the situation and a table has even explicitly addressed us what would have been going on. in short form, they then got a summary. we have rarely felt uncomfortable in a local. worse still is that one is treated so from above only on the basis of a hammer block. the wet had to miss 150-200 euro this evening - quite contrary to his assumption, he would make losses and we would just eat cheap. it was only about approx. 10 euro, to a main dish. also: all 5 are fully employed and we were all dressed a little better because we knew we wanted to go away together. I can't evaluate it, but we'll never have a look at it again. very sad that you have to behave with your guests, and to judge them, the restaurant does not seem to be so badly visited because of the slinger block. the owner should think about whether it has not caused others. because with this kind he is driving the runnership. the senses of the slemmerblock is to visit new restaurants and to find new favourites. that has been so often gone and we have always been glad that we have been made aware of this locally. otherwise we would never have seen/seeded/tested. in the connection we have landed in the "flaming star" - without a slemmer block. And we had another super evening, which of course had its running gag. at least this had his good one."
