"The second night in Monschau, we decided to have dinner at Alter Markt. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty, with the exception of the what we think is the Mother and Daughter team running the front of the house. The menu consists of a...variety of cuisines, ranging from pizza, to steak to fish. After some slight deliberation, I ended up ordering the Rump steak in Monschauer Mustard sauce and my girlfriend ordered the Kassler with sauerkraut and mashed patatos. The Rump Steak: I ordered medium-rare and thats what I got. The meat was luscious, tasty and lean, not many fatty streaks or lumps. The mustard sauce had an interesting consistancy and was very flavourful. The Kassler was a good piece of meat and just as the steak, flavourful. From what my girlfriend told be, is that the sauerkraut was also tasty, as well as the mashed potatoes. Overall: good service, good people and tasty food at reasonable prices. I would definatly recommend coming here."

If you can get here before the crowds arrive then this is an attractive and photogenic place to capture but by mid morning it’s all over and the hoards descend into the narrow streets otherwise a lovely place to spend a couple of hours.

We were a largish group of people and the staff were very helpful in finding us a table for us all. The service continued to be very good. The beer was great (local) and the food was flavoursome without being fancy. We enjoyed our...visit.

The food was nice and the service was very friendly, maybe they have learned from previous reviews. The place was full but is expected for the Christmas market season. The prices were higher than in low season. Average restaurant in Monschau as all they are.

Stopped here on a recent visit to Monschau. The Lady spoke English which was a help, also asked if we needed assistance with the menu. Got a Pizza and Beer. Both Very Nice. This is a lovely little restaurant and the food is delicious (the steaks are great) it has a very authentic look which fits in very well with Monschau. However the service is terribly slow and visitors are overlooked in favour of locals. That being said...I’d still eat here again as the food and the beer are great.

looking for somewhere to eat as we all very hungry. literally we saw this restaurant went in. Lady herself so was really multi tasking did great job serving, taking orders payments. of us had the schnitzel if i remember correctly with...mustard sauce. Excellent dish. Very local german feeling atmosphere charm. Apparently both local beers sampled by my friends were excellent too.

We went here at and now in back to find out that there are new owners.: Peter and Amanda from Roermond (NL). Very open and welcoming en service (including Shirly) is very pleasant. The food is absolutely good but I think that Peter...has more promissing plans with thisrestaurant. Can't wait to see what this couple is going to do with this place. Till next year!!! Food was good, but the service was average. We asked to change the fries included in the dish with baked potatoes and were charged additional 3,50 euro without being told in advance. The price of the dish was not changed, we just had to pay the additional amount. All the condiments mayonnaise, ketchup) were also an additional cost 1euro) without that being mentioned in the menu. Despite the good quality food we felt cheated in the end :

Had a very nice meal here. Beer was good, the wine crisp and cold and our meal was most enjoyable. We had the chicken breast in mustard/cream sauce (excellent) and a Jager Schnitzel (not bad but sauce was a bit bland). Service was good, food...arrived quickly and was presented nicely, with salad and potatoes on the side. The outside seating area was small but shady and pleasant important note. This restaurant is CASH ONLY so be prepared.
