"Hiking up from the city of St.Gallen my colleague and me felt like a snack, when we arrived at Waldegg (983m asl) and before continuing on the well known 'Eggweg ' hike. We had just crossed the invisible cantonal border and were now in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden. The Waldegg is a popular excursion point, mainly for its great views of the Alpstein mountain range, which was hidden by clouds, when we were there. There is a big terrace with outdoor seating, but we preferred to sit inside in the 'heimelige ' (cozy) interior with lots of wood, with a green tiled stove and with cow bells as decoration. My friend and me first ordered from a friendly German waiter a 'Saft ' as in Northeastern Switzerland a cider is called. In other parts of Switzerland it is known as a 'Suure Most '. To eat we went for a local speciality: Appenzeller Pantli, a sausage for raw consumption, that is an IGP trademark (Indication géographique protégée).
