"We walked down Rue des Basques to watch them filming something. It was a Basque band and all were dressed in the white suites and red berets and scarves. Loud cheerful music but take after take!! We'd walked past the Bar du Marché and as it was lunchtime decided to go in. We were lucky that we got a table immediately. The place was full of locals and buzzing. We decided on a steak haché which came pink as requested and great home cooked chips. The other meal was Basque black pudding served with apples and mash. They served a complimentary bowl of green salad, nicely dressed and as fresh as could be. We had a carafe of rosé. Nice experience and friendly and efficient staff. We went back a second time for lunch and ate a turkey dish which was served with penne and chorizo. If you want a quiet lunch don't go - this place is extremely busy and full of chatting guests and busy staff! A great experience"

"Hello, Im new in Bayonne and use this site to find the good stuff, as I've done everywhere I go. We choosed Bakera for lunch (12th august) and I will not be back again. This is the 1st time the reviews were very far from what I found the place to be. We were seated on the large table by the kitchen, and the service was terrible, after 10 minutes I decided to take a picture of the menu board outside because the waiter didnt bring us the menus, courtesy water came about 10 minutes later (20 total) and the food almost 50 minutes since we seated. While we wait for ages, we could see the kitchen stuff drinking (dunno but maybe it was whiskey) , eating and leaving almost outside (he was by the back door but he was still inside the restaurant) for a smoke and not cleaning hands after the very quick break. The only waiter was busy but also got the time for talk and chat with other clients. The food was ok but just ok, prices were correct. I have been to places in Bayonne much much better than Bakera..."

"We had dinner at this restaurant in May 2017. We ordered pate to share and two separate fish dishes for plats (mains). The wait staff were pleasant but the food seemed to take forever to arrive. The pate was ok - nothing special. One of the fish dishes, bar, was nicely cooked but was drenched in olive oil which masked the flavour of the fish. The other dish, the 'special' - lotte - again was well cooked but had a large bone which needed to be wrestled from it. The accompanying carrot and cumin mash was good. The white wine the waiter recommended to have with the fish tasted like one of those bad mass-produced NZ sauvignon blancs - all violent, mouth-puckering acidity (as opposed to the good NZ sauvignon blancs which can be delicious and great with fish). Not really a good experience. We won't be going back."
