"On entrance, the hotel looked lovely. Stunning views all around and a nice looking hotel, unfortunately this set us up for a big fall. The house is old and in desperate need of updating, it seems to attract an older generation of people and the ambience in the restaurant was somewhat flat. We had an experience voucher for a 2 course set meal. The waitress told us it was a main and dessert, but my husband wanted a starter so was happy to pay. He ordered the scotch egg, which came out nicely presented, but £9 for half a scotch egg...!! If this was true fine dining, which I assume this hotel is trying to do, then perhaps we might accept that but it was nothing special in the slightest. We both ordered pork, I specifically asked if it was cooked a little pink, which I dont like, i was told no. However, when it arrived, it was definitely too undercooked for my liking. Being on a voucher, I didn't feel I could complain too much so my husband ate it. The pork was served with soggy sweet potato fries, which had ridiculously been left in gravy and the meat was wrapped in soggy, fatty bacon which they claimed to be pancetta. Vegetables were some overcooked cherry tomatoes and very strange pickled cauliflower, with no option to order any side veg. I eat out a fair amount and have always had the choice if ordering sides. Dessert was a double chocolate terrine, sounded nice on paper but reality was a sugary slab of something with only a hint of chocolate. The waitresses were not particularly helpful or professional and at the end of the meal, they charged us for 2 desserts, even though I had stuck to the 2 courses with the voucher. Apparently, it should have been starter and main included, not the mains and dessert we were told originally! Overall quite a disaster, I could have cooked something far better at home with little effort. Very disappointing."

Had a lovely meal. Service was a little slow as a large party came in but would go again.

So disappointing, the food was dreadful. No atmosphere at all and the service was dreadful. Would NOT recommend to anyone.

This is a country hotel with a quirky feel about it. The downside to the dining experience was the service which was ok but we have had better.

Visited this venue where we were married, for our 10 year anniversary. No ice! Beer choice was poor! No access to some facilities due to a wedding! Staff inexperienced and bed extremely uncomfortable. Food was nice but not that much choice.

The goat cheese tart (starter) was clearly mass produced and merely heated on the premises. The main course was OK but was the standard of pub food; no better. Very large dining room; only one other couple. On the plus side the wine was inexpensive.

we came to brooks country house on 04.08.19 for a night stay. when we arrived, we were greeted by two friendly recipeists who checked in and showed us in our room. they said there was a birthday party in this night, but it shouldn't be too disgusting. we have settled in our room, which we unfortunately felt for updating and a really deep cleanliness. put on the shower, fragrant smell and crack everywhere! we have booked a table to eat 8 o'clock and after approx. We wait 5 minutes in a small dining room. we ordered our foods and appetizers were bought near enough immediately, which we a little shocked as they are clearly produced. I had the mushroom soup that was good, but I would not recomme...

"We had an excellent meal at the Stonemill, although with a few features that may be worthy of comment. We were welcomed and shown to our table, and after about half an hour a complimentary portion of breaded whitebait and tartare sauce arrived off limits, sadly, to my wife, who is coeliac, but gratefully scoffed by me lovely big juicy fish and good sauce. After another 10 minutes, and having seen people who had arrived after us placing their orders (always annoying, that , we got a bit impatient and went in search of some staff. Our order was taken, and after another 15 minutes more complimentary things arrived broad bean and caramelised onion purée, which married the beany bitterness and sweet oniony caramel very nicely. In another 10 minutes some likewise unexpected bread, oil and vinegar arrived we explained (again that my wife needed something gluten free, so some suitable rolls were duly found and provided. These proved still to be frozen inside, although given the timescales we were working to, they had plenty of time to defrost. Then the actual food started arriving, all of which was superb (although, on a small point of Italian grammar, Arancini is plural if you 're only getting one, it 's an Arancino . Mains were lamb (Madame and sole (me , and a special word about the green veg, which is not always British restaurants ' strong point, but here was succulent and just al dente. Our house Romanian red was earthy and piquant, and slipped down very nicely. Stuffed to the gills as we were with multiple starters, we skipped the puds and just got the bill which, when it arrived, was £49. I did think (who wouldn 't? of paying up and running, but, being honest folk, we felt bound to point out that, haphazard service notwithstanding, it should probably be at least twice that amount. Unfortunately (for the restaurant, not us tips could not be added to the amount on the card machine, but could only be left as cash, so sadly in these cashless, contactless times they had to go without. So an all round 5 stars for food, a solid 3 for service, given that they made amends for their slowness with lots of extra goodies."
