"This Michelin-starred restaurant at Chatel Novel in Varetz made me realize what importance timing, generosity and surprise means to great gastronomy.We - a family of four - celebrated a birthday and decided to go for a three-meal-course at this restaurant which I am told should be the only Michelin-starred in the entire region.We were placed on the terrace just outside the castle with a wiev of the vallye just in front. And already at the beginning came the first surprise: three different appetizers. Every one of them did exactly what they should: called for more in an extremely delicious way.Then - a few moments later - the starters arrived. Everything tasted amazing, were extremely well balanced and seductive. And here is where the timing comes in: the waiters were on their toes to read whenever you needed an extra piece of bread or a little more wine.No necessary waiting - and no hurry either. Precisely the right moment the main course arrived and as all the other food it was perfect prepared and served.And then the next surprise: a rather big birthday cake served on a plate of slate in front of the birthday child. And the moment after she tasted it the waiter discretely asked hyer if he should divide it into four. He did and we all enjoyed it.The desserts arrived with the same sort of natural flow as the rest, and when we finally thought the dinner has reached it's end a small - I dont know what to call it - piece of goodbye sweet ? - was served for us.Each and every piece of food was carefully treated and tasted sublime. What can I say? If you are within a 100 miles from this Chateau in Varetz - hurry."

The castle is full of history. The rooms are spacious. The meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are excellent and the staff is friendly.

Good God, this place is wonderful. The hotel is gorgeous, with beautiful rooms, a wonderful pool, and beautiful grounds. The people who work there were kind and helpful. The restaurant, too, is amazing - excellent food and service, all on a beautiful outdoor patio. Go there!

we went with a group of friends, 10 people enjoying good food and good wine. A superb place, the restaurant is superb, the food excellent with nice wines to go with. And you have your coffee served in a small salon with some sweeties. A special experience! and a very value for money also!

Inspiring place, filled of quietness, elegance and charm. Never stayed in the hotel itself (although viewed some of the charming rooms) but was many times enjoying either the terrace in the summer time, or the restaurant for either a family lunch or coffee break. Not only is this place beautiful, the grounds immaculate, the pool and pool-house wonderful and the food to die for, but the family behind it all is amazing. We had broken down in our vehicle and they couldn't have done more to be helpful - to sort out a replacement and to make us feel so welcome. It is quite the most personal, efficient and kind service I have ever received in many years of worldwide travel.

While the 13th century castle is impressive with a lovely terrace with views over the countryside and helpful staff, we were most disappointed in the food. How this got a Michelin star beats me. Very little was good and my fish was actually cold. And the breakfast is not worthy of a star restaurant - no home made jams, for example, more like the sort of breakfast you get in a Novotel. There is a sort of meanness in everything. However very nice pool.
