"Since I live in the area, I have been a semi-regular customer other Rose and Crown at Ivanhoe for many years. However, of late – and particularly on a Sunday lunch time– I have encountered a rather unprofessional and unsavoury practice that surely is guaranteed to put a customer’s back up. Although the menu clearly states what food is available, when one come s to order a Chicken Caesar salad for example, I was told that “chicken is reserved for those who have pre-booked” (and there is no sort of disclaimer on the menu . The reasoning appears to be that it is not that that particular dish is unavailable despite being on the menu, but rather a key ingredient is reserved for someone who has pre-booked a table, and therefore may or may not actually turn up, or indeed may or may not order a dish with chicken in it. I have never encountered such ridiculous policy before, which seems to treat its customer with utter contempt. I was not the only one to voice my displeasure, as when I later passed through the bar, I overheard a lady (who I suspect was from overseas, was seriously remonstrating with the bar staff over the same issue. However, a rather unattractive and older white haired woman – who I assume was a local resident and therefore got to the chicken first – seemed to find this all rather amusing. So my advice I don’t go there, as obviously you custom is only welcome in possible preference to others and when it suits the owners. Hospitality is obviously not the Rose and Crown’s real business, rather it is only taking your money."

"Being our third time dining at the chef's table, it's a truly fantastic experience. Watching the chef's prepare and present your meals is a real joy. Every dish is explained by the head chef, to which you're able to accompany with a wine pairing. Although its a bit more expensive than you're standard restaurants, it does feel like good value for money. There are other options such as a shortened chef's table, or a pick off the menu. It's a true treat of a dinning experience, with nothing of this calibre around. Would highly recommend to all !! "I have dined at the King's Head for over 40 years on many special occasions. And oftentimes, just because I want to enjoy a decent meal out in a restaurant that delivers exceptional food so hard to find outside London. The Aylesbury Duck for two...is a must but should be requested when booking to avoid disappointment. Georges de Maison and his team do an outstanding job and have adapted the restaurant and menu to accommodate changing times and tastes. The King's Head is about quintessential fine dining, and my only surprise is that not all guests dress for the occasion these days. This is a pity as turning up in jeans and a t-shirt at such a wonderful venue would only make one feel out of place! If you have not visited, I would recommend the King's Head restaurant most highly."

"I chose this restaurant based on its reviews and location. I easily booked a room online for £115 for the night (double en suite). Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly and shown to our room, which was spacious and had an excellent shower room. The fridge in the room was stocked with milk and orange juice, and a continental breakfast was included. The room was clean and quiet, set back from the road. The reception area in the restaurant was cozy and inviting. We dined in the bar and ordered food and drinks, which were delicious. We also enjoyed the 'open mike night'. Parking is available for both pub guests and staying guests. If you're looking for a unique pub with comfortable accommodations, I highly recommend this place and would definitely return."

"We went for their weekend 'Colonial Thali ' brunch. The restaurant is very fancy with a lovely easthetic, rather formal. We were greeted warmly at the door. Service was incredibly slow, despite us and one other table being the only ones present. After a 25 minute wait for 2 dishes, the Thali platters came which had a variety of 'Indian ' style dishes. The food was just fine, you get quite a lot for your money. However the food was rather bland for Indian food unfortunately, lacking spices, heat and seasoning. The waiter explained it was 'Anglo ' Indian food, so adapted for the local customers, which was rather a shame. We also ordered two 'lattes ' which were from a machine in restaurant were very bad quality, hardly any coffee taste, just tasted of piping hot skimmed milk. Overall, glad we tried something new. It is good value for money, however we won 't be returning, purely due to the slow service, over formal atmosphere and muted flavours of Indian dishes."
