"I read a rather negative review from a pompous poet lover who was disappointed in this shop’s stock, so I wanted to say my piece and stick up for a shop that is local to me and wonderful in its own right. Diss Publishing is easily my favourite shop of all time, and I knew this from the moment I first stepped through their doors. Due to my work hours, Im often unable to visit during the week, and the temptation to pop in whenever I do happen to pass on weekends is impossible to resist. Not always to buy something, sometimes just to walk around and stare in awe at all of the wonderfully colourful items they have for sale. It’s ironic, really, as I haven’t read a fully fledged book since I was in school, though I keep telling myself I will get back into reading. The shop itself offers so much more than books, and it accommodates for everyone. With the most exquisite ideas for gifts, the most unique and high quality stationary, the simply adorable selection of teddies, and the most welcoming and friendly customer service I have ever experienced; every time I have entered this lovely shop, I have never wanted to leave! Thank you to all the staff for always going out of their way to be helpful, and make each customer feel genuinely valued and recognised in the conversations you have in passing with them. This shop is one of a kind, and I would recommend anyone bookworm or not to take a trip inside and try leaving empty handed. I am yet to try their cafe, but Im sure that when I do, it will inevitably bring more irresistible reasons to pop in. What a beautiful little place in the world!"

The bookshop is fabulous but the cafe, which has not been open very long, is mediocre. I had an almond croissant that was burnt on the outside and fridge cold in the middle with tea that was tasteless. Hopefully things will improve.

I purchased a meal at this restaurant and received an old five pound note as change, which is no longer legal tender. When I asked for a replacement, they refused and joked about not being on the internet. This experience has made me value the politeness and honesty of other businesses even more.

Met up with a friend we hadn’t seen each other for some time. Bill was expensive for what we had, ‘jokey’ comments passed between multiple staff as we left made me feel that they weren’t happy about how long we had been at the cafe. If they read this it’s okay, we have decided not to go back and will meet up again somewhere else in future.

We have visited the bookshop and cafe twice now. The cafe had only just reopened so still just offered baked goods and drinks The staff were keen to get feedback so they could get it right for their new customers. A lovely terrace to enjoy a break above the Mere made it fun. From Monday there will be more savouries and a salad bar. The bookshop has great staff- more like old friends and some beautiful books. They also sell some gifts so I came away with two books and a white nightie.

We decided to have a shared cheese platter for £12,50 What an over-priced mean meal . Two slices of very thinly sliced bread (down to 3mm one end several cheeses , three brown pickles from jars two baby tomatoes four very small lettuce leaves and a very small amount of coleslaw . Probably a 500% profit . This was possibly a one off ,but if it was not customers will soon move on . I was not asked if the meal was satisfactory when I paid ,if I had I would have passed these comments on before leaving.

I highly recommend using this local shop not only for books, but also for cards, wrapping paper, and unique gifts. I have seen artists occasionally painting here as well. Unfortunately, I have not yet visited the café so I cannot comment on that aspect. The staff at the shop are always friendly and helpful, and seem to have a good rapport with one another. This speaks volumes about the positive atmosphere of the shop. It is impressive that they have managed to survive the challenges of the pandemic and have adapted to the changing world by diversifying their offerings. We are fortunate to have such a wonderful independent bookshop in our community.

The Coffee House situated at the back of Diss Publishing, is under new management, and it shows. The offering of homemade cakes is wonderful, and they the ones I have tried are very good. The coffee and Walnut is very good, as is the Sicilian Lemon Cake. The tea and coffee is sourced from a local firm Butterworths, and the pastries, and savoury selection are very good. I can recommend the cheese twist baton. Panini's with various fillings are offered at a reasonable price. The views over the mere are very good and the decor helps one to unwind and enjoy the view, or the book you can't wait to read. The cheese scones were so tempting I had to take one away for later. Heartily recommended. A h...

I decided to give this pop-up café a try as I like to support local businesses. I paid £3.50 for a cup of tea (which was served in a rather small cup and saucer) and a biscuit. I waited for a while and ended up having to ask for the biscuit as it never arrived. I then noticed that other tables were also receiving their teas without biscuits. Do you only get a biscuit if you ask for it, even though you've already paid for it? It would be better value if they served the tea in a teapot and allowed customers to have a couple of cups for the price. The salad and quiche were disappointing; they tasted okay but the servings were very small. I felt like we were overcharged for what we received. The...

"So disappointingBefore coming to the swan I had looked at the menu online, as my youngest child has allergies and is dairy free. It states on the menu that ‘light bites’ are GF and most can be adapted to be DF, brilliant! It was our last day of our holiday and I thought I’d treat them to a nice lunch out before heading home. Where do I start, the service attitude from the lady behind the bar was shocking. I asked what could be made DF for my son and was told that there wasn’t anything and they don’t cater for allergies?! I pointed out on the menu that they state they can and was met with an eye roll basically. Anyway, I thought I would get him some chips, nope, they fry them in the same oil as the dairy and meat products we are vegetarian ! I then asked about the VEGAN dishes they had and I was told they are also cooked and prepared for alongside the meat products so they can’t guarantee they will actually be vegan!! By this point my daughters had already got excited about eating out and the play area that I couldn’t really back track, so I went against my better judgement and ordered 3 sandwiches on granary bread and a childrens fish chips. My son had a packet of crisps. The sandwiches arrived and were absolutely awful, the cheese and onion one was 2 slices of cheap shop bought bread with some pre grated cheese and a couple of slices of onion not even any butter! It wasn’t cheap, £45 for 4 soft drinks, 3 sandwiches and a child meal. Then there’s the play area, sharp screws poking up through the wood chip, lose sharp fixings on top of the slide, and a massive electric open cable under the swings! We swiftly left, it was such a bad end to our holiday and should have been our final hurrah before driving home. Was appalled at their attitude towards me, was treated like an inconvenience, food was awful, please don’t eat there if you are Vegan, although the dish is vegan ? they certainly don’t take the steps necessary to keep it away from meat, and definitely not safe for anyone with an allergy. Such a shame as the location is so pretty with the river opposite, we were excited and left feeling really disappointed. Will not be back."
