"Dinner House of Tides, Quayside, Newcastle Celebrating 10 years and still going strong. A multi award winning restaurant on the banks of the Tyne,in a Grade I listed 17th century merchant house. Looks can be deceiving as when we looked through the window earlier while passing,it looked empty. We didn't realise that was the bar and the restaurant was upstairs. It was a good job we booked as it was full to capacity. The ground floor is like an old pub where you can have a pre-dinner drink. The dining room is on the first floor, with a view out over the river. The menu is a simple choice. Well, it's a set five course tasting menu £98. Having said that, they have changed it slightly as there's also a seven-course from February £130. Snacks were a Jeruselum Artichoke Dashi Custard and a mouth-watering Croissant, black garlic, winter truffle. Sourdough Bread with whipped toasted sunflower seed butter. Salt Baked BBQ Swede Goats cheese mousse, hazelnut, kale Whitby Crab, butternut squash, coriander, curry spiced granola. Salt Aged Beef Tartare with Lincolnshire poacher. Served with a Beef Fat Brioche on the side. Hen of the Woods, smoked pan-roasted, truffled potato puree, hazelnuts chive. Star of the show,Main course Rare breed pork, belly loin, bok choy, onion black garlic. Desserts. Yorkshire Rhubarb Dark chocolate orange crémeux, coffee praline. These were extra dishes from the new menu. The kitchen technique is good, and the service was charming, attentive yet relaxed, and friendly. Strong Michelin star cooking and reasonable value."

House of Tides is the best restaurant in Newcastle that I've been to, and frankly it's hard to imagine one better.

Food was great but the service has definitely dropped. Went for the food and wine pairing and it was rushed, staff even getting it wrong.

My mother and I were on holiday from the states and, for our last day in the U.K, we chose to experience the countryside at the dining table.

Menu superb, and taste excellent. Wine flight was one of the best we have had and matched superbly. Service was also excellent. Perhaps only slight issue was it felt a little rushed compared to last visits, but we could have slowed it down. Overall brilliant. Visualizza piatti

Another fantastic visit to House of Tides, first time for my partner and he was certainly impressed. Great that the menu changes every month. All the courses were exceptional and such a nice environment to dine in. Staff are great and make it a nice relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend

Building is superb and near the old Cooperage. Original Brick and wood and appropriate non fussy tables and chairs give a relaxing feel Atmosphere is just right and the lighting also perfect The service is faultless and the food is incredible. Taster menu was a journey of culinary delight with a lot of artistry involved Great wines and lovely staff

Quite simply perfect, great food , amazing Sommelier Matthew . Really welcoming and attentive staff. I can’t recommend more highly. Highlights…the eel, lamb, fig bread and goldschatz from the wine flight. I was a lone diner on a work trip and came out having had a great experience. And ordered a bottle of one of the wines after the meal as every drink complemented every mouthful of great food. Lovely place. Visualizza piatti

Nice tasting menu. Nicely compiled on local ingredients and products. The mushroom Hen of the Woods was probably the best of the whole tasting menu. We were disappointed with the Whitby Crab and the wife also had bones or pieces of crab shell in it. The service was OKish , we appreciated the involvement of the very young staff (apparently still students in the industry), but sometimes they quite unnecessarily took away the butter with the bread or for a change they didn 't quite synchronise the food delivery with the wine pairing so that one didn 't have an empty glass or plate anymore. The sommelier, Matthew, was top notch and really lifts the whole restaurant up!!!

This was a return visit for a family celebration and we were all eagerly looking forward to a night of superb food. What a great disappointment!! We were first of all taken upstairs to an almost empty restaurant and shown our table BEFORE taking our coats. We had to ask for pre dinner drinks which were taken at the table. The food was nicely cooked but the helpings were meagre and served on cold plates. We had to rely on the doorsteps of sourdough bread to keep us topped up. We had to ask for the wine we had ordered whilst we were half way through our lamb course. The whole evening was soured by lack of attention. Sorry Mt Atkinson we have been great fans of your food but WE WILL CERTAINLY N...

"The place seems unprofessionally run. The staff all look like they could do with a bath. No overalls are worn and their clothes are all of the type that many would wear to lounge around the house in . Several have longer hair and beards but don’t wear any kitchen p.p.e. The decor is shabby and I wondered what kind of hygiene rating they would have. Although not busy, the staff seemed to be disorganised, falling over eachother and lacking in training. They seemed to handle the food in an inexperienced, clumsy fashion. The only tool I saw being used was a pizza peel for taking the pizza in and out of the oven. On all other occasions the food was handled. I didn’t notice any hand washing or alcohol gel in evidence. The menu is quite limited and uninspiring. 2 of the 6 pizza choices include chicken which Italians would argue is definite no no! All pizzas are reheated to order which eliminates the possibility of customisation. I don’t believe the restaurant would stand out in many European countries, as pizza in general is of a much higher standard than that in the UK. In spite of the above, The basic pizza is excellent in taste (even though it is all re-heated). And for this reason it is worth a visit. Compared to other uk pizza restaurants which are typically serving absolute garbage, the food is way out in front. If you can tolerate the negatives I’m sure you won’t be disappointed with the pizza. However with a bit of effort, this place could be transformed into something truly amazing."
