"We arrived at the restaurant around 20:00 and were seated indoors immediately. It was our last night in the city and I had been pestering the wife (who eats meat) to come to some sort of vegan/vegetarian tasting menu style restaurant for a while now, she had agreed and I was really looking forward to it.We were given menus, which was a 3, 4 or 5 course tasting menu, we opted for the 5 courses with wine pairings at £70 each. The pre appetizer came, which was basically a spoon with what tasted like a dog treat and a bit of cranberry puree on it.... not appetizing or a good sign at all. ( I must add that this wasn't one of the 5 courses)The first course proper arrived briskly, it was a seaweed and cucumber flavoured panna cotta with small macaroons which looked great, however, the taste was that of fish eyes/guts, basically vile all in all. I take it this was their attempt to recreate the flavour of the sea, which it did brilliantly, just the wrong kind of sea taste. Awful. The wife left pretty much all of this course and I tried to get down as much as possible as to not offend, as I was still trying to be optimistic despite all the signs pointing the other way. The next course arrived, again in great time. This course was a carrot and mushroom soup with a small crouton on the side. This course was very nice to be fair, however for the price (£70 a head) a small cup of soup should not be the highlight of the entire meal. it was a very basic soup that anyone could make at home, and make taste lovely. Again though, nothing you couldn't find at a hotel buffet for £7.99 a head.Onto the next (course..) this was a bit of lettuce and sour yoghurt in a jar with what I assume was grass sorbet? It was made to look like some sort of eco system in a jar and tasted like the finest efforts of a young child playing chef with what they could find in the garden. Again, awful stuff, which we both left after one taste.Onto the big main course which was mashed potato wrapped in a leaf along with some red wine jous and various dried herbs and other small bits to add to the fine dining experience. This course however was still at its heart just mashed potato dressed up. If this course had a bit of seitan or something similar to make it like a mock sunday lunch, then It may have impressed, but as I say, it was basically just mash with other bits to dress it up.Dessert was quite nice, but inventive it certainly wasn't. a slice of warm peach on top of what was basically a Farleys rusk with a few raspberries and a bit of ice cream to boot. The service was great and I cannot complain on that front as were the wines, but the food was just not up to scratch. I am baffled as to why a half decent chef couldn't have come up with something a bit tasty as apposed to the confused, simple and dreadful combination put out as 'fine dining'.Plenty of potential for this place and I'm sure they change the menu up quite regularly, however at the present it cannot demand the prices it is charging for the poor quality fayre they are peddling. Right from the first course I was apologising to my wife and this continued throughout the night and into the next day for subjecting her to this lacklustre fine dining experience."
