"My partner and I came across this pub a few weeks ago when we were redirected off the M62. It was a beautiful sunny day and the pub looked inviting, so we promised ourselves we would stop there for lunch the next time we crossed the Pennines. It turned out to be a great decision! We started off by ordering drinks, I chose a pint of Lee's Summer Ale which was a bit sharp for my taste. I mentioned this to the lady serving us and she kindly offered to replace it with a bitter at no extra cost, which was much more to my liking. The menu offered a good variety of options and we decided on the fish sharing platter. The portion was generous, with freshly fried cod goujons that had a deliciously light batter. The homemade tartare sauce and warm bread complemented the dish perfectly. Overall, it was a satisfying and enjoyable meal. If you ever find yourself passing through the Pennines, I highly recommend making a detour to this pub off the M62 and treating yourself to a meal here."

"Tucked away down a side road you might wonder how this pub keeps going. The reason it does is that it is known for being a great traditional local pub. Nothing flashy or pretentious, but good plain food at sensible prices, decent beer, friendly staff. It feels welcoming as soon as you walk in and an evening there is time well spent."

"Haven’t been here in years and won’t go again! When we arrived the pub was quiet apart from a large group of people who were obviously going to be having a meal. We ordered our food, and the starters came fairly quickly. When our plates were being cleared the girl said “there is going to be a delay on your mains because we’ve got a large party in”. Not good. Why weren’t we told before we ordered? We might have chosen to go elsewhere. When the mains did eventually arrive I had a pile of chips on my plate which were revolting. They were soggy and like a pile of mush. Totally inedible. Around 8 pieces of scampi and a very boring salad. All our chips were the same. When our plates were collected I told the girl that the chips were inedible. She did offer to get me some more but by that time I had eaten the scampi and salad. I asked her to tell the chef that the chips were very poor. We asked for the bill and waited ages for it. When it came we asked for the card machine but that wasn’t forthcoming either so I eventually had to go to the bar to pay. The girl behind the bar asked whether everything had been ok with the meal and I said not. She didn’t know what to say. Nobody at any point offered to reduce the bill or make things right in any other way. Very poor. Won’t be back."

"Great place for a family get together, made welcome and the staff were great, booked on line and had good communication. Enough normal car parking but limited disabled parking, 2 spaces with all-round access and 1 with limited access. Food was good and a good selection of drinks. The only complaint we could have was that it was very warm inside without the ability to open a window to cool down. Price per person: £10–20"
