Le Moutardier Du Pape

An excellent location, especially if you can snag a seat in the shadows. We just had drinks, the service was prompt if somewhat diffident. No problem, it's not a pleasant job.

Very nice lunch after visiting the Pope's Palace. Service is nice and with care, prices slightly higher but understandable as it's a very nice location just opposite the place facing the palace. Some salads come in entrée or main dish size.

We ate outside, in the main square by the Pope's Palace. It was a lovely warm evening. The view was spectacular. The sound of a busker gently playing guitar could be heard in the background. We enjoyed our food and wine. The service was relatively pretty good.

Went in for coffee at 11.45am. Waiter was extremely rude when I asked for two coffees. “No... too busy” was his reply. Pretty sure a place that advertises as Cafe should sell coffee. We accepted and walked out and I am now completing this review. Pretentious place anyway.

Needed a break from the relentless Provence sun at midday. Normally we would wonder around and skip the most obvious touristic places; but this looked nice on the place Palais des Papes. We had Truffle Penne and the Plate du jour which was chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. Easy, simple, delicious. Not too expensive; although not extremely cheap.

After touring the Palace of the Popes, we stopped for some refreshment. The server was very pleasant. That experience together with a recommendation from our host, we decide to have dinner here. The dinner service area is splendid white linen tablecloth service facing the Palace. The Foie gras melted in our mouths. The taste and presentation of the lamb shoulder was superb and the cream sauce on the penne pasta was light and exploded with flavor! Don’t pass up the Profiterole XL.

Horrible. The eldest waiter was so rude. He literally treated us like we were stupid just because we did not speak French and despite asking and trying our best to be understood (we’re Italians, but can speak proper English) he kept speaking French very fast. The rudest, most arrogant, negative waiter ever met. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There’s many more around Avignon, don’t be fooled. Paying 2,50€ for an espresso is already ridiculous, but doing so while a waiter makes fun of you is a bit too much.

Ignore the so called bad reviews and go to this restaurant. Our server Christoph was the best! Lovely conversation with him, he was knowledgeable about the menu and took the time to explain to us so that we ordered just the right things. The food was amazing. My husband had the set menu (yummy curried soup, lamb and then the chocolate dessert). I had the beef along with the chocolate cake for dessert. A find for sure and the view of the Palais des Pape is great as you are in the square below it (although we are inside).

We visited Avignon today with my family. Upon parking our car at a central location we walked to find a restaurant to eat before starting our tour of the town. The first restaurant we found was Le Moutardier, so we walked towards it in order to find a place to sit. As soon as we found one, the arrogant waitress arrived and she nearly started shouting that we should wait. So we did… we were just standing there waiting for her majesty’s to pay some attention to us. I couldn’t wait any longer so I told her that if she can’t service us then we could move to another restaurant… so she turned with an angry eye, showing us to move on to another restaurant… People avoid such restaurants… They should...
