"Restaurants in Paris are a dime a dozen, and I've had some great meals and some woeful meals! Good restaurants are not quite as plentiful, and Restaurant Le Relais de la Butte is one that is on my list of 'must go to' restaurants. This is a lovely traditional Parisian restaurant in Montmartre, occupying a small terrace at the junction of Rue Ravignan and Rue des Trois Freres, just below the leafy Place Emile-Goudeau. Its outside tables command a wonderful view of the Paris skyline down Rue Ravignan. It was particularly beautiful in the setting sun on the warm balmy evening we were there.I've eaten twice at this restaurant now, and on both occasions it was excellent. It's very busy with locals, and you may have to wait a while for an outside table (quite a lengthy queue had gathered while we were dining), but the wait was certainly worthwhile. Service was very efficient, welcoming and charming. The waiter even moved our table to maximise our view of the Parisian skyline. Despite the gathering queue, we were not hurried at all, and were able to enjoy a leisurely meal without any hint of the need to rush. The menu has many classics. Servings were huge, and everything was fresh and tasty. I had the Steak, perfectly cooked as requested, served with a generous helping of individually-cooked Potato Gratin (or was it Potato Dauphinoise?) in a metal serving pan. It was all delicious, and should not be missed. My dining companion had the duck, deemed to be excellent; it was perfectly cooked, tender, and succulent. There are some non meat options, though I'm not sure of gluten-free options. Desserts were also good; the Creme Brûlée was delicious, as was the Clafoutis. There's a comprehensive wine menu, with many available by the glass. It won't break the bank; two courses each, with beer and wine, came to Euros 70.00. The view was the delightful (and free) extra. One thing to note. Musicians and buskers gather on Place Emile-Goudeau, which is a few steps up the hill above the restaurant. If you are looking for a quiet dining experience, you may not get it here. We heard a variety of music - contemporary French, and Mexican; it was a bit loud, but not unpleasant. You can sit inside to avoid, but you'll miss the view and the constant passing parade. We will return."
