"We went on a Friday and had the most splendid waitress. We were a party of allergies, vegans,vegetarian and meat eaters. Oh and a dog. She made all of us including the dog feel really welcome. The food matched the waitresses standard, ensuring we all walked home satisfied and really happy. Dog had icecream. As it was international irish coffee day, they went out of their way to make a lovely irish coffee. Vegetarian options: Had the selection of side dishes and they were delicious Dietary restrictions: They catered for the various allergies in our group. Listened and checked with the chef."

"My experience at this restaurant was excellent. The staff was very friendly, the service was good, the food was delicious, and booking online was easy. There was also convenient free parking outside. I highly recommend trying the courgette fries! They had a variety of vegetarian options, and were willing to customize dishes if needed. The parking was free and there was plenty of space available when we went on a Thursday, though it may be busier on other nights. Overall, a great dining experience."

"We rode over to the Red Lion with friends. My wife is vegetarian and therefore, from the limited option, she chose macaroni cheese. At £16 plus £1.50 for bacon this seemed a bit steep but that was what she wanted (without the bacon because she’s a vegetarian). As she began to tuck into the meal she discovered pieces of meat and was somewhat distraught so we returned the meal. We were offered a glass of wine or a refund and since a glass of wine was far less than £16 dish we asked for a refund. My wife continued to feel upset about her dining experience. It wasn’t helped when a young female staff member was sent out to explain that the chef had earlier been slicing a ham and cheese toastie and probably had a piece of ham on the knife. This did not leave us feeling confident about the kitchen hygiene if utensils used to prepare meat are subsequently use to prepare vegetarian meals without appropriate cleaning. We’ve had super experiences at other local pubs. We’ve no plans to return to The Rad Lion!"

"Honestly...one of the best pub restaurants I have ever visited! We chose to eat here as it was recommended via Alistair Sawday, and it did not disappoint. The food, atmosphere, hygiene and service were all 5* when we visited last night. We sat inside, by candlelight, and ordered 2 starters (the Rye smoked mackerel with buttercream sauce and the heritage tomato salad and 2 mains (the beef burger with fries and the hake with toasted ciabatta and garden peas . It was truly exquisite! We both cleaned our plates (and we don't usually do that! . My only mild criticism is that I didn't realise the hake dish would include bacon lardons they certainly added to the flavour, but as an ethical pescatarian, this could have ruined the meal for me (I didn't allow it to, but 10 years ago when I was more strict it may have upset me . I may have simply missed this ingredient when reading the menu, and I didn't make the waiting staff aware of my dietary preferences, so I accept this was my fault and not theirs. It's just something for other pescatarians reading this review to be aware of. I have absolute confidence that they would prepare the hake dish without the bacon lardons if you asked. As for me....my boyfriend gleefully took them from my plate and demolished them himself! We also enjoyed a medium glass of wine each my boyfriend (who is very particular loved the tempranillo and I had their Italian pinot grigio. Our entire meal would have been less than £60, but with the current government incentive scheme to eat in, it came to less than £40!! We tipped generously as they truly deserved it. We will 100% be returning and can't advocate them enough."

"So, given all the positive reviews I'm just going to have to guess that on the evening of an August Bank Holiday Monday the chef was elsewhere. It's a nice locals pub, good atmosphere and staff but the meal for 4 was terrible value e.g. £23 for lemon sole that was awful overcooked and/or dredged out from the bottom of the freezer and defrosted. Fish and chips that came with about 6 chips i.e. gastro pub in price only that day. Sorry if it had been a better price I wouldn't have mentioned it. I really should have said something at the time but my party just wanted to leave, which I admit is not good i.e. had the pub said sorry and written off the lemon sole you don't need to write a review, so this is more a note to others.
