"Waiter very miserable, no atmosphere, food lamb shank) was cold, no apologies just took away and 2 minutes later we heard the microwave ping and meal returned to our table, again no verbal interaction. Even once paid CASH ONLY no thank you, even though we made a point of saying thank you. Such a shame as was a special Wedding Anniversary and we had been looking forward to good atmosphere food. Would not recommend."

"Made to feel incredibly uncomfortable. Having just moved to the village from HH, we were really excited to enjoy a drink and some food at our new local. Upon arrival the welcome was cold at best. Asked whether we could start a tab, which was welcomed. We went back to the bar to order food, only to be told that they would like us to pay upfront. Odd but we went along with it and paid. Food was delivered, burger was rare but ate it nonetheless, it was okay. Lamb was decent. One of waitresses (Becky) was very nice and tried very hard but was overshadowed by someone who appeared to be the manager. Who came out on two separate occasions to tell us what we had left to pay for on a tab. Made to feel like we were thieves, I went inside to settle the one round remaining and we left. Shame… we had intended to spend the early evening there and hopefully the next years."

"We live in Lindfield and have been to the restaurant many times, usually the experience is 7/10. The food is usually very good , the service also good, as you would expect for a restaurant charging a top end price by local standards). Tonight changed that. The service was chaotic too few staff) . We had a table of 8 and main courses were spread sporadically. I was left with the remaining dish, which bore no resemblance to what I ordered. The waitress who brought the meal, but did not take the order, on 5 occasions told me I was wrong, despite at least 3 of the table wondering if they had the right dish. Mine was tasteless, and eventually, and reluctantly, they agreed to change it. 10 minutes later a replacement dish arrived. I ordered mine with chilli. As though to teach me not to complain and inedibly chilli hot arrived I eat vindaloo). At which point I left my card and departed. No words exchanged. I don’t blame the inexperienced person serving. The owner hides in the corner staring at his laptop the entire evening. Always has done. At no time did he decide to speak with me and resolve any issue. We certainly won’t be returning"

"Went there for a roast dinner. Food was good, decent portions and good variety. Service was also good, we had a brand new server but she managed to offer a good service. A couple of issues which could happen anywhere, but a main issue was our inquiry about the side dishes that come with the roast, because they hadn't arrived. We were immediately told we would have to order them extra by one waitress, while another was bringing them to our table. It is not the delay that bugged me, it is the attitude of immediately trying to add something to the bill without checking (menus clearly state that roasts come with side dishes). Atmosphere is also good, a lot of people but not chaotic/dirty or loud. A family was hogging the fireplace area with children scattering toys and sitting in three different tables (other than theirs), which is inconsiderate from the parents part. They seemed to have had some issue with billing. Parking was easy, location convenient. Only issue, is the prices...we paid 80 pounds for two people... We got two of the two course roasts, one dessert (to share), one large and one small coke, a coffee and one glass of wine.. Not in London but Sussex.. also there are no prices in the desserts, if someone wants to have extra.... Pricing is of course clearly indicated on menus so it was our choice to dine there."

"This once great “pub” has become more and more elitist and up itself. I remember the much heralded opening in 2016 as well as giving it a 5-star review and considering it one of the town’s gems. But now, with the place owned independently, it’s trying to position itself as a gastro pub but has entirely lost the pub vibe. Turning-up at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon we’re asked if we’ve booked. Replying that we haven’t, we are told that it’s table service only and they can only squeeze us in to a table outside. So we sit, and we wait. And wait. After 15 minutes with nobody coming out and being told by the trendy young person at the bar that it’s always been table service and it’s every day, we get up and leave. How this place can claim to be first and foremost a pub is misrepresentation. If you want a real pub, there are plenty in HH and the recently opened “Tap” on South Road gives a better choice of beers that rotate more frequently. If you want a decent restaurant, there are better options than the Lockhart, which for the most part hasn’t changed its menu since it opened."
