"If you haven't tried this restaurant yet, please do, you won't be disappointed and I cannot recommend it enough. This restaurant needs it's own clear listing on Trip Advisor to differentiate it from the Donington Manor Hotel, please claim it Donington Manor! The Sage Restaurant, situated inside the hotel currently has Craig Riley as their head chef. Craig is extremely talented, dishing up Michelin standard food. We had the A La Carte menu here a few weeks ago. I read the excellent reviews but initially discounted the restaurant because dinner service is 6.30 8.30 and we struggle with babysitters. However we happened to meet Craig in the hotel car park during the Castle Donington Fair and he offered to serve us dinner on a Friday afternoon, on a day we had booked off work to celebrate my partners birthday. We're so pleased we went and are already trying to find a way to return with friends as soon as we can. The food was incredible and such good value for money considering the quality and cooking techniques used. We were served more courses than we bargained for and the service was brilliant they're clearly just a really good bunch that want to wow customers, it was an all round enjoyable experience and the kind of food you think about for days after!! If you live locally and take Donington Manor for granted, look again and make the effort to go, we are so luckily to have Craig's talent on our door step."

We visit the Manor periodically as a small group and the meal we had last night was one of the best, from a set menu, that we have had in some long time. The food was fresh and tasty and the service was excellent. Highly recommended.

A group of 20 met and ate in the Sage restaurant last week and enjoyed a good menu including fishcakes for starters and sirloin steak for a main course finished off with Christmas pudding. Tasty food well cooked. Good service and good value for money. recomended.

First impressions were that the Restaurant could do with a little tlc , ripped wallpaper, chairs refurbishing and just a general up lifting . Afternoon Tea consisted of three types of sandwiches (bread a little dry), four cakes, scone with cream/jam and pot of tea (tea pot stained). Person on duty (reception/waitress) was welcoming and friendly. Better options are available in the area.

well what can i say, This was a spur of the moment visit and was overawed by the hospitality of the staff on hand, they couldnt do enough for you even offering to carry your beer to the table.3 courses for £18 which are all sublime it was by far the best goat cheese ive ever had..A real credit to the chef for creating a great little menu at a great price.please visit and try for yourself.

went here for lunch and was really disappointed, had wanted to try for a while, booked for 1pm but arrived at 12.30 and although there was only 2 other persons in the lounge waiting to be seated in restaurant we still had to wait till 1,20 to go through, service was slow with just a total of 3 tables being used and the food not much better, i always take photos of when i eat out and i really just couldn't be bothered, was like i was eating at mcdonalds, actually that would probably had more flavour, There wasnt even a cd player in restaurant it had to be carried through from bar area. tired looking hotel and restaurant BUT having said all that, well done to our waitress, she was lovely and c...

we travelled to this hotel for sunday lunch some 30miles journey, after reading the reviews on trip adviser. Well I can only say it was one of the worst meals I have ever experienced. We arrived and were shown to the sage restaurant by a very nice young lady.I can only say that the waiting staff could not be better. The room was old and tired but very clean and pleasant enough. We were given the menu that was very traditional for Sunday lunch which suited us because we had come with my elderly Mother.Well, now what followed was like a comedy. The tomato soup was passanda with a stock cube added, it was like glue, awful. The parfit was a slice of the cheapest pattie you could imagine, pale and in...

Had Sunday lunch today at the Sage Restaurant in Donington Manor. Arrived half an hour early and went into the bar for a glass of Merlot (very good) first, this area could do with a face lift, and a more tasteful one than the last. The restaurant itself however is nicely decorated and tasefully so. However the waitress from the restaurant came into the bar and took our order whilst we relaxed and chatted. We were called through and did not have to wait long for our starters, we both chose a Chicken Caesar salad, which was just sufficient with fresh salad and moist chicken. The waitress was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Our main of roast sirloin, Yorkshire pudding, roast pot...

"Nipped in for a quick bite on a Friday evening. We went up to what looked like the restaurant bar and asked if it was possible to get a table but were directed to the main bar to ask about this. The place was packed- getting served at the internal bar would have been a bit of a fight. Had a similar experience on a visit here before because there's not much space around the bar so you tend to get an impenetrable crowd instead of any sort of line. Eventually managed to get the attention of a member of staff and were told the restaurant was fully booked, however we could sit outside and order food at the bar to our outside table. Would have saved us some time if that was communicated through the team and relayed by the first person we asked instead of sending us to queue elsewhere. We did order to an outside table, and the food was excellent. The small pizzas really are quite small. But if you have a couple of sides they're perfect to not overstuff you. If you want to just eat pizza probably get a large. Also they had really interesting topping selections on the pizzas- I had the spiced aubergine, creme fraiche and honey. It was absolutely delicious. The chips were hot and well seasoned, the greek salad also really nice- I did miss the addition of peppers and would possibly remove the pea shoots and sub in the peppers to improve this and keep it more authentic though. Drinks were nice and the atmosphere inside was quite cosy and outside had a nice vibe with the tasteful lightning and wooden furniture. Would definitely return (but probably make a reservation. It's busy for a reason!"

"We stayed for one night prior to a flight at East Midlands Airport and everything was excellent, from the warm, welcoming staff, to the rooms and the simply delicious food (evening and breakfast). Firstly the pub: food, drinks, restaurant… All excellent. The sign of a great pub for ale drinkers is one with knowledgeable staff who are keen to let you sample before deciding on a pint. This was the case here and we worked through all five real ales during the afternoon and evening! Also a great selection of wines, and everything served in the correct glasses I loved the attention to detail. Then the evening meal in the restaurant area of the pub: this was also excellent, with a great menu and top food, in plentiful portions. Really delicious all ‘round. We didn’t manage desserts but starters and mains all great. The pub/restaurant is well presented inside and out, with a lovely beer garden at the back. Secondly, the hotel rooms: we were in rooms 1 2 and both were lovely. They were well presented, comfy beds, nice hospitality tray (with fresh milk in the in room fridge), nice toiletries. The room rate included breakfast, which was all freshly cooked to order and once again, a great selection. I would 100% stay here again, especially if going to/from East Midlands airport which was less than a 10 minute drive. A lovely, traditional country Inn with excellent food and hospitality. Thank you to the full team."
