"Shropshire Star Review Reviewer's rating Emma Kasprzak enjoys a selection of Indian dishes which were expertly cooked and servedThe balti is often considered the UK's national dish, so it was with that in mind that my boyfriend and I set off on a trip to Shifnal. The Shifnal Balti has been a mainstay of the town's eating out options for many years with both dining in and takeaway meaning it is popular with those wanting a night out as much as with those on their way back from one.The venue, in Broadway, is easily accessible with on street parking outside and it is neatly divided into two restaurant sections and a takeaway area so that diners can enjoy their food away from people picking up a meal. The restaurant has been modernised in recent years and the contemporary feel fits in with the new-look menu. For a Tuesday night the place was fairly busy with a good atmosphere which was helped with Indian music and trendy lighting panels on the wall that change colour. To whet our appetites we both had a papadom to start with a selection of chutneys and pickles."

We like our curries, and have them wherever we can. This was genuinely the nicest meal I think we have ever shared. I am not exaggerating when I say I was on the verge of tears over how nice this curry was. Completely authentic, fresh, each dish felt bespoke, great range of options for vegetarians.

gluten-free, I don't think so. I went to the shifnal balti as a business dinner in juli and told the waiter that I was a coeliac and needed to have a gluten-free meal, he said it would be in order and to speak with the server, I wanted to notice before I sit down, if I had said that the choice was so limited, then I would have left the restaurant to find another place that could. When I spoke to the server, he said I had a choice either fried chicken or tandoori huhn. I asked if I had anything else and he said he was gonna ask the manager. all the others have served their food and I had to sit with a glass of koks. the server has not...read more

really bad service. Go next door. hallo everyone just wanted to know that they all know my experience in the shifnal balti, I understand that everyone is different, but our personal experience was poor we did not order our food. when we arrived, we sat by a waiter who looked more glum. instead of then putting the table, he gave me my table goods while he wiped his nose to his height. he asked if we wanted a drink and before we could answer it. we didn't speak a word, but just came up and went to the royal bangol. a little dated in decor, but service 100% better. we will never talk the shifnal balti again. we were treated better in almost food restarents.

Just as we were seated a group of women came in who were very loud and we could tell they were intoxicated. They sat down, as a family we decided we would find somewhere else to go. We let the staff know that we were going to find somewhere else to go for dinner, however on hearing this we were seated somewhere else. After this, the women were informed of their behaviour, and subsequently left the restaurant of their own choice. We can safely say that the food here was without fault and we will definitely be returning! We really had a great experience here. As the other curry house in Shifnal was closed, both the restaurant and takeaway service were very busy, but despite this, the staff wer...

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."
