"this is one of the friendlies inn pub where we have been for years. we only booked for one night, but we were good for much longer. when we (I bertie and my wife helene) went in on Saturday afternoon, we immediately felt at home. a beautiful atmosphere, beautiful open fire and warm sweeping X-mas decorations. the room was warm, clean and cozy. richard the owners are nicer hosts. eating was very good. the evening meal, breakfast and Sunday dinner were prepared for a high standard and served by richard and the friendly staff. nothing was a problem, and everything was relaxed and take it time. fantastic, we're coming back safely. bert hair, newtown"

phone calls, email and another call at this point I was told I would call back. hours later got an email with general information that asked me to call. the effort cannot be worth, instead chose a welcoming pub

lunch here on a cold novemberday perhaps the place could have been warmer, but never less eating was very good a good choice and well presented another light critique service a bit on the slow side, but overall very pleasant.

we had a delicious afternoon tea in the crown. the food was excellent and we took a doggy bag away because we couldn't eat anything! the ambiente was beautiful with a crisp log fire and cozy sofas to relax after our tee. the service was first class. we will definitely go back.

First visit here today, although we didn't eat we had coffee, drinks take out cakes and wine. Beautiful place inside so oldy worldy full of character and I didn't realise it had such a huge back garden . Plenty of parking opposite. Staff were lovely. Definitely be going back again, well worth a visit here. Thank you

We managed a visit in the Summer in-between lockdowns and everything as good as before. Latest lockdown precluded eating there for New Year's Eve so we sampled our first restaurant take away' from anywhere. It turned out to be just as good as eating-in and...the heating up etc was really no problem. Collecting it was an equally good experience, so civil in the circumstances! Our Dutch son-in-law rates this place in both countries, and he is a food snob, so even more praise.

we cannot recommend the crown country inn enough! we were for 2 nights and the room had a nice authentic feeling, wooden beams, beautiful view. was very clean and well kept. the breakfast in the morning was very well received and helped to keep our energy levels on the land for our days. the chef was very warm for our nutritional needs! pub is ideal for dinner or a few drinks (or both! , takeaway also available. they take the current restrictions very seriously, what also for us reassuring. beautiful atmosphere, right country pub with beautiful owners, very pleasant staff and excellent eating and drinking!

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."
