"First visit to Tarff since it closed due to Covid. Really well signposted and organised. Felt very safe. A reduced menu which is understandable ie: sandwich fillings of the day choice of three) rather than multiple choices. All food, crockery, cutlery etc behind Perspex screens avoiding multiple people handling. Details taken for track and trace. My OH and I had soup and sandwich combo which was brought to us in timely manner. Both soups hot and nice freshly made sandwiches. Observed prompt clearing and cleaning of tables yes, a wee queue was forming but it was peak time during ‘Eat out to help out’ ! Well done to coffee shop staff and thank you !"

Stopped for a short break and refreshments, and enjoyed the atmosphere. A well stocked shop with a lot of interesting items.

Without doubt one of the highlights of a trip to Dumfries. Delicious food (particularly breakfast) served by really, really nice people.

Great shopping experience, soup was excellent for lunch with sandwiches made fresh. Would highly recommend this as a stopping place on Neway from or to Stranraer.

I called in the late afternoon for coffee before heading home. Their cake selection was limited, but we absolutely loved their sticky syrup cake. We will definitely be returning in the future. Thank you.

Every time we go to Dumfries we call in for either a mid morning snack or for lunch and we 've always found the 'Home Made ' food to be first class along with the service that we receive. Well done to management and staff for looking after us.

Ordered soup with bread and it took about half an hour for it to come, other people just coming in were getting served much quicker! I eventually had to go and complain! Also charged £1.80 for a can of Irn bru from a multipack, daylight robbery! Won’t be back in a hurry!

If you like to eat your food with flys buzzing around your head, crawling over your clothes and landing on your food then this is the place for you. It’s such a shame because the food is actually very good although I could only eat half of it as the flys had paid a visit to the other half. It was a bit ironic because only a few metres away the shop was selling fly spray and powder. Needless to say we won’t be back. It needs a visit from health and hygiene bodies.

I consider myself a bit of a soup aficionado. Visited Tarff today and had the broccoli and Stilton soup with a Coronation chicken sandwich. The service was slower than usual, but boy, was it worth the wait! Hats off to whoever makes their soup as it was probably one of the tastiest soups I have ever had (apologies to my wife!! The delay must have been down to them filling my sandwich with so much chicken!! One recommendation I would make please, please, put your recipes online, especially broccoli and Stilton soup!!!

"My wife found this when looking for a place for us to spend our wedding anniversary. It sounded good on paper. It was a long and tedious drive for us though and I wasn’t sure it was worth it. I was totally wrong! This place is superb and well worth any drive! The setting is great-it has its own beach and there is a small patio where you can sit and there is a heater there too if you need it. There’s a nice lawn in front of the hotel too where those with dogs took them for a walk. The rooms are all different and all well appointed with their own en suite. The costs of the rooms reflects the size of the room and not the facilities. If you are tall like me (6ft 2) I wouldn’t go for one of the rooms in the roof as the coomb ceiling is a pain. However the thing you go there for is the food and that is sublime! It is a set menu in the evening which reduces waste and helps control costs. You get 7 courses, all quite small , but at the end of the meal you are adequately fed but not full. We were there for 3 nights and had a different meal every night. All the dishes were superb but we had mushroom soup one night and it was the best soup I have ever tasted! In fact it was one of the best foods I have ever tasted! The breakfast is very good indeed and you can order whatever you like from the menu which is very comprehensive. I found that set me up for the whole day and I didn’t need a lunch. I must also mention the wine. The wine list is very comprehensive with some difficult to come by wines in it too like Chateau Musar. On 2 nights we went with the wine pairing list which I thought was very good value, especially the cheaper of the 2 lists we had every night. The hotel is a good centre for seeing things in the local area and , despite going in November we found things to occupy ourselves for the 3 days we were there. They have various themed weekends too which sound brilliant. But the hotel is so good it is worth going to anytime. We will certainly be back."
