"My wife and I had our wedding reception here in July 2021 and we couldn’t be happier with the service we got from all the staff. The food in particular was outstanding and all dietary requirements were catered for and food amounts were more than...ample. When food started to run out it was quickly replenished, as were drinks. The feedback from our guests around 60) was all extremely positive and it really is a lovely setting albeit aided by fantastic summer weather that day. Johnny is the chef and manager and his expertise in the kitchen is second to none whilst his partner Katie oversaw all the other arrangements for us in a very professional manner. We stayed in one of the rooms upstairs that evening and it was very comfortable and had a lovely cosy feel to it. The breakfast was also delicious and on the whole I can definitely recommend this pub as a venue for a wedding reception or any other function."

Attended a party, the room looked great, staff attentive and efficient and the curry cooked for 60 was excellent. Great venue for a gathering.

We had lunch in The Anchor today and it was outstandingly good food. The atmosphere was also lovely with a characteristic old pub feel, including open log fire. Topped off by very friendly service.

Stayed for two nights over the weekend. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were very professional and welcoming. The food in restaurant was excellent with a variety of choice. We will definitely come back again.

We had such a fabulous 50th birthday celebration with family and friends. We hired the bar area which was great for dancing and the adjoining open room. Lots of character and a great atmosphere with fairy lights and candles. The room led outside to a...lovely seating area which we enjoyed as well. Johnny the chef was very amenable. We went with the hog roast and jackfruit with amazing salads. The food was delicious. As a friend wrote “It was SUCH a fun night….lovely atmosphere, great food, great location.” A very memorable night. I would recommend it to anyone.

The Anchor was a fantastic place to hold my husband's party. The area we had with our own bar for the party was perfect. The team behind the bar, led by Kate looked after us so well. Kate worked really hard making sure everything ran...smoothly as possible and her team supported her in doing this. It was very atmospheric and a good time had by all. Jonnie Forbes produced canapés, an amazing curry feast, pudding and cheese for 60 people. It was absolutely delicious. Everyone has raved about the food. The canapés we had with arrival drinks were top notch all made in house. Highly recommended. All the staff worked hard to make it a memorable evening for us. A big thank you to Jonnie and his tea...

Lovely clean comfortable room with plenty of hot water for a bath or shower, plenty of complimentary bath products and tea and coffee. All the staff are very helpful and friendly and the food in the restaurant was first class. The Anchor...was perfect for the walk to Pooh Bridge and the little tea room shop Pooh Corner which was just down the road. The Anchor has lots of character with lots of old beams including in the bedrooms. Only thing I would say is if you like an early night you might want some ear plugs as the bedrooms are above the bar and it can be quite noisy until closing time, this didn't bother us as we never turn on, see you late anyway. It was perfectly located for our 2 nigh...

Booked a table for four. Upon arrival we were greeted with a friendly smile by Connie who saw us to a quiet table. Something requested on the booking, perfect start. We were then given the menus, which had plenty to choose from for all tastes,...and ordered our drinks. We were also looked after by Ben. Both Connie and Ben were always attentive but never intrusive. Me and my friends do enjoy ourselves and both Ben and Connie, although a little unsure at first, were very accommodating at joining in with our sense of humour. The food was absolutely delicious and we couldn't help trying each others. Service was quick and everything arrived hot and well presented. We can't speak highly enough of...

We met at the anchor on the recommendation of relatives who live locally. The ancient building has great charm. Furnishing are in keeping with the buildings. Service is friendly without being over the top. The Harvey's beer is well kept. Two of us had ballotine of...ham hock with a generous portion of lightly toasted bread, accompanied by a delicious mixed piccalilli, and there were two portions of scallops with black pudding, which were reported to be delicious. Mains were fish and chips, generous helping with nice batter, pies that were just right and Cumberland sausageand mash with a wonderful jus. This was accompanied by a cotes du rhone villages (plan de dieu) which at £25 must be the be...

"Honestly...one of the best pub restaurants I have ever visited! We chose to eat here as it was recommended via Alistair Sawday, and it did not disappoint. The food, atmosphere, hygiene and service were all 5* when we visited last night. We sat inside, by candlelight, and ordered 2 starters (the Rye smoked mackerel with buttercream sauce and the heritage tomato salad and 2 mains (the beef burger with fries and the hake with toasted ciabatta and garden peas . It was truly exquisite! We both cleaned our plates (and we don't usually do that! . My only mild criticism is that I didn't realise the hake dish would include bacon lardons they certainly added to the flavour, but as an ethical pescatarian, this could have ruined the meal for me (I didn't allow it to, but 10 years ago when I was more strict it may have upset me . I may have simply missed this ingredient when reading the menu, and I didn't make the waiting staff aware of my dietary preferences, so I accept this was my fault and not theirs. It's just something for other pescatarians reading this review to be aware of. I have absolute confidence that they would prepare the hake dish without the bacon lardons if you asked. As for me....my boyfriend gleefully took them from my plate and demolished them himself! We also enjoyed a medium glass of wine each my boyfriend (who is very particular loved the tempranillo and I had their Italian pinot grigio. Our entire meal would have been less than £60, but with the current government incentive scheme to eat in, it came to less than £40!! We tipped generously as they truly deserved it. We will 100% be returning and can't advocate them enough."
