"The service is excellent, but the food was a bit hit and miss. We had a really lovely camembert starter and then my partner had the pie which he said was OK but kind of stodgy, I had caesar salad which was quite a dry peice of over cooked chicken in a bit of a messy salad. I didn't eat it all because it wasn't very nice. The wine was lovely and the waitress was fantastic. It was a bit like the food you'd expect to get at a Weatherspoon pub, so kind of expensive for budget food and not great cooking. I'd definitely go for a drink there again, because the service is great and the interior of the pub is really lovely but I would look to eat somewhere else in the village. There's a place up the road from there that does amazing Thai food and the curry house is also really good."

"First time visit. Treated a friend as a birthday treat for a meal at this excellent Italian restaurant. Chosen after a recommendation and needed good vegetarian options. Wonderful food. Attentive service. Relaxing atmosphere. Must go again. Parking: There is free parking at a bit of a walk away but on a very wet and windy day was lucky to find a space on Winchester Road. "Two months ago, I went to dinner with friends at this restaurant. Unfortunately, the chicken schnitzel was undercooked and raw in the middle. The chef did correct this, but came out of the kitchen angrily and no apology was given by the servers. The lasagne also seemed suspect, with some parts hot and others cold, leading us to wonder if it had been microwaved. Additionally, we were overcharged on the bill. One staff member did try his best and provided decent service, earning them 2 stars, but it was clear that they were undertrained. The other staff members on shift offered no apologies or support to their colleague, and instead appeared rude and sarcastic, laughing and saying "see you next time.""

"The pub has a classic feel, with a separate public bar and restaurant. Although we were not initially directed towards the restaurant, we were able to enjoy the unseasonably warm October weather by sitting in the garden. Surrounded by traditional pub benches and the sounds of the countryside, it was a delightful setting. I was a bit underwhelmed when we first entered the public bar, as we had come out for a rare child-free lunch and I was unsure about the food quality. However, I was pleasantly surprised when our meals exceeded our expectations. I enjoyed the Brie and BBQ ribs, while my partner had the haggis and burger - both dishes were delicious and generously portioned. The atmosphere at The Fox was welcoming, with friendly locals and staff. It reminded me not to judge a place by its appearance. I would highly recommend dining at this traditional pub, which still maintains its charm despite the losses faced by many similar establishments."
