"The Grassmarket offers many options for food and drinks and one that stood out for us based on its positive reviews, is The Black Bull Grassmarket, Edinburgh! We were not disappointed as we were met with a positive authentic Scottish sports bar feel! Spacious, well ornamented with sports content and memorabilia as well as multiple TV's large and small throughout. Food was absolutely delicious, plentiful and paired nicely with a variety of pub drinks of choice. What made our visit extra special, was the very charismatic and generous of his time, Danny from the Highlands! Thanks for the extra personal touch of balancing your time serving patrons while also squeezing in enough time to share a bit of history of Scotland nice work Danny, way to positively represent The Black Bull and good luck in your career production endeavors! 5 Black Bull Stars for such a positive experience in Scotland!!! Love from Canada"

An amazing venue. A true historic gem of the city. It impressed me so much that I included it in my new book (I'm an Italian writer). A genuine Scottish pub deeply rooted in the historical tradition of a great country. Highly recommended!

The ambience, the energy, the service, the drinks was superb. I enjoyed myself I did some whiskey tasting. Great vibes. I highly recommend this place especially if you are solo travelling. The bartenders will be very welcoming and they will explain the different whiskeys and of course their favourite.

We visited approx 5 bars as part of our 1 night stay in Edinburgh. The Black Bull was our favourite. Great selection of both ales and lagers whereas many pubs seemed to have a lack of choice with real ales. Tall chap on the bar was really friendly and proactively offered us to taste multiple drinks. Superb pub!

We visited the Black Bull a couple of times on our visit to Edinburgh. It was a nice friendly atmosphere! The drinks was nice and I loved how the ceiling was decorated! It made it feel quite cosy! The pub is dog friendly which was great for us! With having a dog it does limit you to where you can go so we are very grateful when a place is dog friendly! Staff was lovely! Fast service! Thank you! Would definitely come back!

Myself and 2 friends in our early 50s visited Edinburgh over the weekend of 24/11/23 and decided to visit the Grassmarket for drinks getting into all of the bars no problem. We went to get into the Black Bull and was told by door staff that there was a band on and full to capacity so had to wait, no problem , as we were waiting 2 younger people joined the Queue and one person came out, then another younger person joined the queue after about 10 minutes we said to the door staff ah it’s likely to be a while so we shall go to next pub, he said ok then opened the door to allow the younger people in who were behind us we did challenge them on this to be told that the younger people had previousl...

"new kapitel has caught my attention after I was on top ten on trip advisor only months after the opening in the oktober last year. that and the fact that it is open for my early january birthday, made it the perfect place to celebrate to become a little older. I was with the man and his family. the man is quite used to my taste and good to the kind of kitchen that would appeal to me for a special occasion; his family not so much and I was filled with shame as his mother scornful went through the menu trying to find something she would enjoy. I've eaten with the family of the man, and I know they enjoy eating, so I think it's a failure of the menu that it is not accessible. the benming always blooming and garnish can appeal to some, but for others it is overcomplicated and it is necessary to find a balance between the two. we start with the starters and I go for venison sour wort pithvier. the venison was underheated and incredibly dry, to the happiness the sourded a little moisturizing and so saved the whole dish, but the aromen were quite not clear, except the garnitur of plastered mushrooms I thoroughly enjoyed. for the largest part we chose a fish dish for our main,- sea trout, smoked muddles, petersilien and coast herbs. where the starter fell, the main recording is getting back. the dish is rich and creamy, and each element adds the complexity of the taste as a whole, without disturbing. the concept is now an old one, and it would be deceptive if it had not worked, as it would essentially pay with this place. I enjoyed my meal in new chapter, although I do not agree with it is stellar status under the hierarchy of edinburgh eateries. it is top ten position is just a flash in the pan of hot popularity, and in time it will be plated in the upper half of the middle stage where it belongs. and that is where it belongs, the dishes can be plated with a michelin star in understood, and the venue and the supporting media has the clean lines and empty slate look of fine but eat the team has a long gone to go if that is their real aim. at the end, although it was a beautiful meal, and cheap (at the moment I would not be surprised to see their prices slowly rise) and the man’s mother found something they enjoyed and that is the most important."
