"We ate dinner two nights and breakfast two mornings as we were staying at the hotel. The food has gone down market and down hill significantly since we visited a few years ago. No more fillet stakes. Most of the food appears to be out of the freezer and probably microwaved, not a lot of real cooking going on apart from heating up meat and frying fish. Our first night starters were a prawn cocktail which was frozen prawns and insipid sauce with a limp lettuce. Probably the worst version of this cliché I've ever eaten. The tempura king prawns were small frozen prawns with an insipid batter that has nothing to do with tempura. Pate was OK but bought in. Beef stroganoff was microwaved and bizarrely served with pappardelle, pie probably bought in and microwaved. Burgers too dense to be hand made and cooked OK but no real taste. Frozen chips. Strangely the onion rings were home made and very good and the buns were brioche. Puddings were OK but bought in. At breakfast toast was hardly darkened, porridge microwaved and not at all creamy. The full English was OK. The omelet was good. Wines were well priced and pretty good. There are lots of friendly waiting staff but service is a bit hap hazard and it can be hard to get staff's attention. Staff seem to have multiple jobs so nobody appears to be in control. Small bottles of prosecco were handed out unopened. Dog friendly probably to a fault. Dogs were allowed to sit at the table and be fed by their owners from their plates."

We had a lovely time visiting the area.. This is a great hotel with very friendly staff. Its location is in a fantastic spot, with parking facilities around the front and side, a wonderful, unique place to stay.

We had a fantastic lunch at a charming restaurant. The Shropshire fidget sausage and mash, as well as the fish and chips, were both nicely presented and a generous portion. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and highly recommend this place!

Beautiful room, very clean and tastefully furnished with stunning views. All staff were polite, efficient and extremely helpful. Breakfast and Dinner had an extensive appetising menu including high percentage of locally sourced food. We were very pleased with the quality of the food and how it was served. A most enjoyable stay.

We dined at this restaurant for two evenings during our stay in the area. We enjoyed the appetizers, but I was not impressed with the burger as I felt the quality of the meat could have been better considering the price. While it is not the most affordable option, I would still consider returning. Additionally, they offer gluten-free options.

Arrived for a late lunch and to try the acclaimed local beer XXX (Three Tuns Brewery). Friendly staff served up a quality meal for us both (Halloumi orzo bake with olive salad and Halloumi burger). Our lunch was tasty if a tad expensive for a lunch time meal. However, the local beer was kept in really good order and went down extremely well. The attached gardens are lovely for that al fresco and quiet drink experience, as we returned for refreshment later in the week. A quality venue with good food and well kept beer.

We were staying in Bishop's Castle for our Golden Wedding celebration and had booked lunch at the Castle for a multi generational group of family and old friends. I had booked lunch outside in their stunning garden overlooking the Shropshire Hills but literally half an hour before lunch the heavens opened. The hotel staff were superb, bringing decorations inside and creating a wonderfully arranged table for us in their wood panelled restaurant. The food, which we pre ordered was excellent, beautifully presented and everyone got what they expected. We even had champagne from the local Kerry Vale vineyard. After lunch, the sun came out and we had our coffee and tea out in the garden a perfect...

The restaurant had a nice atmosphere with clean tables. The food was good overall, but there were a few things that could have been better. The hummus came with focaccia, which was hard and there wasn't much of it. It would have been better with flatbreads or pita. The texture of the hummus was also too smooth for my liking. The bouillabaisse was tasty, but I had requested no mussels if possible. The waitress said the chef could pick them out, but most of what I received was mussels with very little fish. The rest of the meal was enjoyable and the staff were polite and professional. The restaurant was dog-friendly and they even provided biscuits for them. However, our three courses were rush...

"Beautifull hotel, I guess one can call it trendy , but I just don 't understand how they can justify the price £130/night and that most of the time will go to £160 as they run out of entry level ones. So I guess the answer is there because people pay for it! But let 's just make some relevant comparisons Birmingham Grand literally in the heart of the city, brand new, 5* hotel, with all recently decorated rooms to the highest standard is £135 15 for breakfast. Needless to say rooms are air conditioned, fully equipped and genuinelly very posh. Hotel has lifts, has porters and the service is top notch. The Lion is barelly 4* just for trendiness alone, but the actual quality of furnishing is closer to 3*, has no lift and you will be lugging your bags up and down mutiple flights of stairs (and I mean multiple like 8 going up and down) trought narrow corridors to mediocre room (nothing wrong with it just mediocre) which isn 't even air conditioned. Sorry, I just don 't get it. That said restaurant is good fully fine dining if you are into it. Althought in my oppinion it doesn 't fit into the rest of the hotel. So it is ~3.5* hotel which is very youghtfull and trendy and then you get 5* fine dining with very tiny portions for the dinner (which is not criticism of restaurant, it is very good on it 's own). In conclussion I just don 't get what niche this hotel is filling, who stays there and why. The price for the rooms should be £75 95 tops. Shreesbury is not exactly prime tourists destination either (at least shouldn 't). But it seems it is working out for them, I just would not recommend it, I would not stay in it again and it is definatelly not worth the price. Neither in isolation, nor in comparison."
