"An evening meal at the forge for 4 , we were seated upstairs , the lighting was very dimly lite which is fine , not a problem until you sat at the table where were seated , I jokingly asked for a torch ! The waitress said most people use the torch on there phone to see the menu .The thought eating a meal is going to be interesting. Yes it was as our table hadn’t even a touch of light or even a lamp like the others ..luckily I was wearing black do disguise anything I end up wearing.Couldn’t fault the food just wish I could I enjoyed the experience without eye stain and see what I was eating .I did manage to speak to the manager before leaving and point out the table that we were sitting at had in fact no lighting at it at all .. I was told if I book next time to book a table down stairs , i will think next time I book any where in the future to ask if I will be sitting in the dark or not lol .I’m sure most ppl do when the back a reservation for dinner"

First time at the Forge Kitchen. Friendly welcome when we arrived. Best burger I've tasted and the dessert was lovely. Dog friendly which is a bonus. We will return

We were very well taken care of by the friendly Mr. Webb in his leather apron! He attended to us for three hours, fulfilling our requests for drinks and food, and made numerous trips up the stairs to the rooftop terrace. The restaurant is in a great location for a girls' get-together.

I booked a breakfast at this restaurant while staying in Ipswich, and I was impressed by the excellent breakfast menu. It offered more exciting and varied options than just a traditional English breakfast. The staff, particularly Mimi and Dan, were knowledgeable and attentive. I will definitely be returning. Starters Brie bites, squid and sausage/chorizo were all fantastic We then had the Cattleman to share. It was magnificent and so well flavoured/smoked Noah and the garlic bread and mac cheese, he also tried the ALL the beef from our tray. He loved and he’s 5. Service was great, staff had personality and actually talked to you. Didn’t disappoint

Visited with my son for lunch on the 7th December 2023. Venue was cold so kept my coat on. Ordered the £35.00 Sirloin on the bone came with one Mushroom dry and soggy, half a tomato and some treble cooked chips. While the steak was cooked to my liking medium rare. Quite fatty, l had to ask for salt and pepper, l was asked did l want any mustards l requested Dijon they never had any l then asked for French they never had any just english. My son had a couple of starters which were passable. Sadly my first and last visit not worth the £70 bill l paid.

Fantastic service and a really great menu of food and drink. We were recommended the venue for its smoked olives only to find that they haven’t smoked their own olives for a number of years. So we went for their spicy chilli chicken dirty chips instead and wow, best chips ever! We also had a number of cocktails as it was happy hour all home made and super tasty. And to top it all, we were served by a great waiter bar tender called Daniel Webb who was both funny and informative in equal measure as well as very attentive. All in all, a really lovely surprise thank you, we will be back! Visualizza piatti

My husband and I were disappointed with a previous takeaway delivery, so he decided to see if a local restaurant had a table available. Despite it being a busy Friday night, the manager was able to find us a table with a great view. Although there was a bit of a wait for our food, the atmosphere was pleasant and we enjoyed some wine while we waited. Our waitress was friendly, professional, and attentive. The food was delicious, albeit a bit pricey, but we couldn't find any faults with it. I would highly recommend this restaurant over others in the area due to its outstanding hospitality and tasty offerings. The menu had a variety of unique options. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and...

Visited with friends for a Xmas meal . Had booking for 430 but when we walked in there was only like 2 other tables in the place so but weird we couldn’t get another time. So got seated straight away and ordered drinks that came out quick so did the starters as we had to pre book our meal, so we asked we not in a rush so hold fire mains . Must been the worse thing to do as didn’t get anymore drinks so I got up and asked the not so busy staff can we have another drink which they apologised and got us a drink very quick so when we said we ready for mains and this was lovely top marks to the chef thankyou but at no point did anyone ask is if food was ok or wanted anymore drinks So when dessert...

"Checking in to a hotel in an unfamiliar place, it is tempting to book one 's first evening meal in the hotel 's restaurant (unless, of course, one has had chance to research the alternatives beforehand . This may seem a safe option, but is often a mistake, as it was on my visit to Ipswich. Had I only known that a minute 's walk along the quayside would have taken me to Mariners, I should have eaten there twice rather than only once! A floating restaurant can often prove to be a bit of a gimmick, but Mariners seemed to get good reviews so, on night two, I gave it a try. A beautifully restored and maintained Dutch customs gunboat from 1900, with gleaming brass and polished woodwork, the restaurant offers a limited, but well-constructed, menu to satisfy most tastes. Being aboard a boat, I opted for seafood, and was not disappointed. There being an R in the month , mussels were a good choice for my starter, followed by a seafood skewer , presented with just enough theatre to be amusing but not over the top. Not fine dining , perhaps, but well-prepared, nicely presented and very satisfying dishes at reasonable prices. A limited wine list, perhaps a bit on the pricey side, but the Picpoul de Pinet proved to be an excellent accompaniment without over-stressing the credit card. Service struck just the right balance between politeness and friendliness. My fellow diners embraced the whole age spectrum (I was by far the oldest! weighted perhaps towards the younger end, the common factor being that everyone (myself included was clearly enjoying themself. There are many other dining venues along the Ipswich quayside that my brief visit did not allow me to try, but Mariners can be recommended as a safe and enjoyable bet."
