"We stumbled across this place whilst in Tavistock and decided to stop for breakfast. The interior is lovely and just what we were looking for. The food was lovely although maybe a little overpriced but I could cope with that. When we arrived the atmosphere was lovely and happy but it all changed when a lady that I can only presume is the owner arrived and it all changed. We could hear the lady bickering with staff and it really was not pleasant. However the thing that would stop me ever returning is the service charge!!!! I am always happy the tip, however I don’t agree with being forced to tip when food is already pricey and then when you pay the machine asks you for gratuity when people may not be aware they have already paid a service charge!! Will be going elsewhere next time."

Was a nice little restaurant but as of 5th April, it seems to have closed down. Perhaps for a refurb? Hope this is the case..

Popped in here whilst on a visit to Tavistock, a very well-stocked menu with friendly staff and great attention to detail. The food was delicious, beautifully presented and very filling. Would highly recommend a visit.

We had a delicious lunch here recently and we honestly couldn’t fault this lovely little eatery. The staff were friendly and helpful. The decor was lovely and the food really good. It was very clean and comfortable. We hope to call in again when we are in the area again.

As a local, I have dined here several times, and it has always been a pleasure. Friendly and efficient, this American-style service is refreshing in the UK. The menu is varied, the meals are nicely presented, fresh and delicious, as are the beverages. The ambiance is quirky and fresh, warm and inviting. The prices are reasonable, and I am always happy to tip generously for very good service.

Called in here for coffee and went back later in the afternoon for another drink. Staff are welcoming, interactive and motivated. Splendid coffee and homemade cakes and snacks. The flapjack especially worthy of a mention. Shabby chic furniture is well laid out and designated people flows. Environmentally aware, nice to see the re-usable hand towels in the loos. Thoroughly recommend. Note to owner the decor in the men’s loo could use a little TLC!

Went for lunch, it was very busy and the staff were great and very helpful. Food was ok eggs benedict far too much sauce swamped the plate, crab salad delicious, hot chocolate very expensive! Presented with the bill at the end and asked to pay by card, when looking at the bill I saw a service charge of over £6, a little surprised, would have liked to have been told of this before it was automatically added. I have been to this cafe before, can't remember paying the service charge before but sadly maybe our last visit.

Hoping for a relaxed lunch ,on arrival cafe packed out as the final week of Eat Out to Help Out.Noticed the lovely quirky decor ,this cafe has a real style to it which adds to the experience.Food was served quickly ,crayfish platter and an eggs benedict looked and tasted fabulous. However the relaxed lunch turned into a bit of an ordeal as we were plagued by wasps who were enjoying the last of the summer bothering the tables, inside I might add.We did ask for assistance but unfortunately in the end we left as they got too bothersome.

Wanting only tea or coffee before driving onto Dartmoor for a picnic of pasties bought earlier that day, we stopped in Tavistock and called at the first cafe we found The Kitchen. It was soooo welcoming, quirky decor with patchwork wallpaper and cups and saucers hanging from the ceiling. Although we only wanted tea or coffee we looked at the menu anyway and were hooked. There were so many interesting light meals on offer that we decided to eat here. American Pancakes Maple Syrup and a Ham Hash. Both were excellent and tasty. The pasties did for our meal at home that evening.

Not been since lockdown so we thought we would give it a go using the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. Same lovely food and good service as before. Don’t remember an automatic service charge of 10% being applied previously? It was also calculated on the cost of the meal before the discount which was not explained. I partly understand why this was done but I do think it better to leave service to discretion but point out the normal cost of the meal. The Kitchen in my view is sensibly not passing on the VAT cut of 15% which will help small businesses like this one. It will be interesting to see how other restaurants in Tavistock apply the changes during August.

"Gidleigh Park is a country house located in a wooden wally in Devon. It is quite hard to reach the place on a very narrow road, which is very beautiful, but apparently during the winter larger cars can’t even get there. Gidleigh Park houses a two-Michelin star restaurant with Michael Caines as the main chef (the restaurant was recently voted number 1 restaurant in the UK by the Harden’s Sunday Times Food List 2014). Gidleigh Park also has bedrooms (apparently all individual in style and design) and you can stay there for the night and then wonder in the gardens of the estate, which I saw some people doing when I was there. I was visiting Devon and my boyfriend chose Gidleigh Park for lunch on a Sunday and we took the long and narrow road to Gidleigh Park. The inside of the house was very old and had a lot of charm. It had eclectic art and antiques and different style rooms, the lounge had different tables, chairs and the bar was done up in a completely different style. Gidleigh Park showcased British charm and elegance. You could chose to have their signature sample menu for £140/ person, but instead we went for the much cheaper version, their lunch set menu for £44/ person for 3 courses (you could also have 4 courses for £57). Also note choosing dishes a la carte would set you back £115, so the lunch menu seems like the cheapest way how to enjoy Gidleigh Park. We did not have any wine, but apparently thy have an amazing wine cellar. The three course lunch menu included a small appetizer, a starter and a main course and you could choose from one of the 3 starters and one of the 3 main courses. Our appetizer was “goat’s cheese foam with beetroot jelly, candied walnuts and granny smith apple”, but as my boyfriend does not like goats’ cheese he had a tuna tartar as his appetizer which actually looked better than my appetizer. I was not to"
