"Popped in after a lovely walk to have a bite to eat. Made very welcome, lovely team of friendly happy people. Dog friendly, Murphy Dog was treated like a Prince given a blanket to lay on, treats and his own water bowl. Food great and reasonably priced. The lamb baguette was stuffed with tender beautifully cooked lamb, a bowl of gravy and the best roast potatoes, all quality ingredients. I had soft drinks but I notice they serve Jail Ale! Looking forward to returning, I need to have a roast dinner next time."

I enjoyed a delightful late Sunday roast while on holiday in the area. It wasn’t too crowded, even though it was a bank holiday weekend. The staff were friendly, and I would definitely recommend this place and return in the future.

We've just had Sunday lunch here with our son and his wife. Service absolutely fantastic, a very dog friendly place. We were given a blanket for the dogs to lay on and biscuits and a bowl of water were provided too. I would highly recommend the roasts. Delicious!!!

We have driven by this place a lot over the years but were put off by the location, thankfully we tried it for the first time last night and will definitely be going back. The food was excellent, well priced and a good, varied menu. The staff were lovely and very approachable.

Haven't been here for ages. Popped in for lunch. Was seated quickly followed by attentive table service. Food excellent, good portions and all served piping hot. Front of house service excellent. So impressed we have booked for New Years Eve. You do have to drive out to it but well worth it.

We stopped by after a day at the beach for a beer and dinner. I was pleasantly surprised by the diverse menu, offering plenty of options for all dietary preferences. We returned two days later for another evening meal. Everything was excellent—your chefs are truly an asset to your establishment!

We booked for two and came here mid week on a chilly day just for lunch. We did not stay in the hotel. Parking OK . Pretty busy by the bar area, so we were a few steps away, which was fine. Friendly service, plenty of choices, beer was good. Good value, and overall a decent lunch. We'll be back in summer, and will enjoy the garden.

Called in for something to eat whilst out for the day. Arrived about 18.30 on a Monday, greeted by a friendly young lady who seated us and took our order. Food and drink both excellent. My wife enjoyed her lamb shank and I had the best steak and ale pie I've ever eaten. This is a proper English pub serving great food. No complaints from us.

I had an excellent dining experience on Saturday, June 17, 2023. I enjoyed the whistle chicken, duck, and scallops as main dishes, along with some classic fish and chips. The staff members, though young, provided good service, especially regarding my gluten-free diet. However, the attention to detail slipped a bit when they became busy. For a pub located on a main road, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food! I would highly recommend this place!

"The positive is that the food is good. But the negative is the service time and the attitude of the staff. We were seated and had our order taken after 20 minutes. A little slow but it was a busy Saturday evening so understandable. Starters came promptly and were eaten. We then got ignored by every passing member of staff for at least 50 minutes. Quite the skill! Once there was a break in our conversation and I realised how long it had been, I stood up to intercept a waitress and asked “are our mains on the way, please?” Our ticket was checked by her at the kitchen hatch and we were told “yes”. At this point our starter plates were cleared after they had sat on the table for at least 35 minutes. Our mains then took another 25 minutes to get to us, so I suspect that being told they were on their way was a lie. To be clear: we were given our mains 1hr 20 mins after placing our order. I complained to a waitress who sent over a manager. The manager asked if we’d had starters (yes, we had) and said that it was our fault our main was so late as we’d had a first course. How insulting!!! Blaming the customer for their bad service. Disgusting. When I said it was still far too long to wait between courses she then changed tack and said the kitchen was “really really busy” well, they weren’t busy cooking our food now were they?! And despite the place being full when we arrived, by this point of the night over half the tables were empty. There were 3 tickets on the pass along with ours and tables were 2 4 people (no large groups) so I feel that was also another lie to get out of it. What a shocking way to treat customers! My advice to you is: if you want your food served in a timely manner, either take the advice of the manager and don’t order a starter, or, be sure to communicate with waitstaff once your first course is finished and ask for your main to be cooked and served promptly. (Note: food also sat under the heat lamps for long lengths of time as staff stood socialising with one another behind the bar rather than serve customers) I hope this advice is of use as I would have appreciated it ahead of my visit! Good luck. [Reading other reviews, ours is not the only experience of slow service and seeing staff chat to one another rather than deal with the customers paying their wages.
