Horrible experience. The owner was extremely rude and unwelcoming. The other customers were disrespectful. The restaurant was dirty and outdated. Definitely won't return.

I love popping in here whenever I can. The beer selection is fantastic, and the regulars are always entertaining! I haven't eaten here yet, but I'm told the wild food nights are excellent.

Very cozy, with a varied menu, bright cheerful atmosphere, great weather, well attended by the staff, spacious parking, the best of Hertfordshire countryside, good ales, we really enjoyed it.

Tiny village pub with car park and beer garden at the back . Not very busy on a weekday lunchtime, just a few cyclists and ramblers enjoying the sunshine. Really nice sandwiches, interesting local real ales , superbly unmodernised and unspoilt .

This fabulous pub has been my family`s favourite for nearly 3 decades. Superb beer, food, events and ambience.Today though, I was `greeted` by a miserable ,rude `regular` who actually spoilt my day : I left without ordering at the bar. i do hope this is not a bad apple?.......

This traditional English pub offers authentic ales and has plenty of charm, including friendly staff. The food is delicious and the pub is perfect for walking groups, as you can explore the surrounding areas on foot. You can take circular walks to Whitwell village in the south or Hitchwood in the north.

Just popped into this pub to ask for directions, from the road it looks like a typical country pub so I wasn't expecting anything really. However, we stayed for a quick drink and will make a point of coming back whenever we're nearby as this pub has a) an insanely large selection of obscure beers, b) nice wine, c) friendly landlord, d) a cat, e) Spurs memorabilia and f) a slightly wacky, unpretentious vibe that you can't fake you can tell this pub has been here for ages and has built up loads of atmosphere. It wasn't expensive either. Apparently they do food too, I look forward to trying it next time.

The main aspect of any visit to this pub is the superb quality real ale which makes this pub a regular winner of CAMRA awards and deservedly so. I would happily spend a few hours here and if you don't want to drive the bus stop is right outside (although an infrequent service, so a little planning is required in advance). Popular with walkers, cyclists and locals alike, the exterior is a little dowdy and the interior likewise, but the staff and associated dog and cat are friendly and welcoming. Food is served and is a worthy accompaniment to the excellent beer.
