"A big thank you to Annabel and John for providing us with a perfect venue, along with super food and drink for over 100 guests at our wedding reception. Set in such a beautiful location, our guests were able to park easily in the private paddock, take a 5 minute stroll to Blewbury’s 12th century church for the ceremony, past cob walls, streams and fields. Returning through the private hobbit gate and meadow to the garden, we had a magical time. Everything was so accessible and ran so smoothly, despite a short rain shower! Some of our guests were able to stay at the Red Lion too and enjoyed comfortable well presented rooms. The hard work beforehand to made the accomodation, gardens, paddock, and meadow look so lovely, didn’t go unnoticed. Thank you for a fabulous day. Jackie Guy"

"I have had a few take away meals from The Vine Spice and enjoyed them, so my wife and I treated friends to a meal at the restaurant there. Sadly and surprisingly I was extremely disappointed. One of our friend 's found that the chicken in their meal was undercooked (it was still pale pink and highlighted this to staff. It was taken away and a replacement given. The chicken in this was cooked fine, but the sauce was now much more watery and lacked flavour due to this (the other had a nice, thick creamy sauce . My wife and I are both vegan and member of staff taking our order didn 't seem too sure what this meant. During our meal, we had 3 different members of staff coming up asking us the same questions rather than one member of staff being given responsibility for this role. All the staff were very polite, but it was a little disconcerting to be trying to have a conversation only for another member of staff interrupt to ask a question asked a few minutes previously (e.g. whether everything was alright, whether we required any more drink etc. Our vegan curries had several hard pieces of veg (we don 't overcook our veg and enjoy a slight bite to them, but numerous bits of veg were virtually raw and must 've been chucked into the sauce moments before dishing up and my wife found some onion with the root still attached. Also, I did find the meal to be expensive for what you get. Given this experience, I won 't be getting any more meals from The Vine Spice ."

"One of the rudest owners I have ever met. I booked by phone, arrived with my girlfriend and was greeted by the owner, shown my table and we sat down. After about 5 minutes I had a phone call on my mobile from the owner reminding me I have a table booked and why I hadn 't turned up yet, I said I am already here, you have just sat me down The call was then ended and I was sat there confused. Really nice food but ruined by hearing the manager ringing up everyone that hadn 't arrived in time and lambasting them over the phone from behind the bar. I understand it must be really infuriating people not turning up once they have booked, but shouting at them over the phone is not going to make them want to come ever again."

"We had a table booked for lunch with friends on a Sunday. The table was booked at 12.30pm and my friends were there at that time, we were a bit late because we have a 7 month old baby and kids can be unpredictable, however we arrived at 12.45pm. On arrival we were informed that they would need that table free at 14.30 and we must order food right away. So we did. We were waiting for our food for over 40 good minutes, one family of 7 who arrived after us and ordered after us was served promptly while we were waiting for our food. Apart of that, I 've been asked to move my baby pushchair so the people from the table next to us could have more room, fair enough, so I 've asked for a high chair so I could sit my baby, and also to warm up my baby food, the waitress said yes to both but never came back with the chair or to check if the baby food were sorted. When we finished our meal, which wasn 't to bad, but not impressed with, we were surprised with the bill and with we need this tablet ASAP . This was the cherry on the top of the cake, we were waiting for the menu so we could ask for deserts and coffee but apparently they were in a rush to rudely ask us out! This is not the way that you want to treat your costumers, mainly when you have free tablets around!!! I 'm chocked still whith all that happened and I 'm not coming back here for sure!!!"

"My partner and I, along with some family, stayed at the Plum Pudding in September 2023 whilst attending a wedding nearby. The rooms were fantastic and the best rooms I've stayed in within a pub. Our room was clean, and fresh, and looked new. The en suite bathroom was a good size, excellent powerful shower, with toiletries too. The bed was comfortable and of good quality. There was a kettle, coffee machine and mini fridge in the room, which was stocked with items for a continental breakfast including croissants, cheeses, fruit, fresh milk, orange juice, bottled still and sparkling water, and a selection of sliced meats which was a superb touch. A brilliant location for us, but also a lovely area. We have eaten at the Plum Pudding previously with family and the food and service was fantastic, though we didn't eat on this occasion. There is also a separate entrance to the rooms, and so returning after the pub closed was not an issue. All the staff we encountered were very friendly, including the brunette lady cleaning the rooms in the morning, asking us how our stay was. It was incredibly hot weather during our stay due to the 30°C heatwave, but we had fans in the room, and the staff did what they could to keep the rooms cool prior to our arrival, and despite the heat we slept very well. Overall, a fabulous place to stay, and we would highly recommend to those considering it."
