"We arrived bank holiday Monday at 13.10. There were some free tables outside (dirty) and it was clear that the staff had had a very busy morning. The outside area was really pretty and I really liked the feel of the space. There were dog water bowls and a box of dog treats and all the guests seemed to be very happy. We sat down before going inside to ask for a menu. I was instructed that they were not serving lunch only breakfast. Fair enough. I ordered inside a few minutes later. This was slightly painful with a member of staff calling out for a colleague to assist him as he was busy. Again, fair enough. After sitting back down, the same member of staff came over a few minutes later to tell me that they were no longer serving food. I commented that he had just charged me £29 for food. I was slightly baffled as he hadn’t told me this a few minutes before. He apologised to me and asked me if I had paid to which I replied yes. He then moved over to another table and told them that they were out of key ingredients for food and so couldn’t serve them. I appreciate it must’ve been a busier day than anticipated so they were running out of food perhaps? More people sat themselves down outside. Got menus. Got comfortable. Went inside to order and then were disappointed to be told that the venue was not serving food after 13.30. I would have personally liked to see a member of staff approaching these potential customers rather than allowing them sit and settle. It also baffled me that a venue that regularly serves lunch and is open some evenings would close on a potentially busy bank holiday with lots of foot fall. But I’m sure they have their valid reasons. However, I believe we saw at least 5 groups be turned away in 30 minutes. It was especially awkward when said groups would stare at us and another table eating! Our food arrived. In fairness it was delicious. We both ordered the full breakfasts. The sausages and bacon were great quality and the toasted sourdough was incredible. The beans could have used a little less time in the microwave or some water as they were dried out but no complaints. I was very impressed. No napkins were put down with the food so we had to go inside to ask for these but I believe the staff were getting ready to close. By the end of our experience there was only one table left inside. After they had left and our plates had been cleared I heard the front door slam and looked up to see it closed. I couldn’t help but giggle at this not to subtle sign of closure which did kind of sum up my experience. Overall the food was very tasty and the feel of the restaurant is lovely but I did feel slightly uncomfortable. This would not stop me from visiting again if I was ever in the area."

"We had delicious afternoon tea here finger sandwiches, tea and scones with cream and jam, and cake all the food is prepared to an extremely high standard, and we were made to feel so welcome by Helen and Kelly. The tea room has a welcoming, vintage vibe, with lots of things to look at while you're eating. Outdoor seating is also available during good weather. The facilities were clean and well appointed. We felt very safe with regards to strict adherence to covid guidelines. Highly recommended to book in advance so that you get a table at this wonderful little eaterie! A hidden gem. Thank you to Tea in the Square for making our afternoon out, so special."

"I came out to lunch with two friends, one who lives locally, and was brought here for the first time. How fantastic to see it so busy, and what a treat to be beside the seaside (not been to any seaside for over 50 years!, being a city boy). Staff were fantastic and so welcoming, Amanda and all. Food was superb. My king prawn, chorizo and avocado salad was devine! Mug of tea, brilliant! Being able to smell the sea air was a unique experience and one I definitely won’t be waiting another 50 years for! A round trip of 120 will be worth it, and I’ll do it again on my own. Well done to the entire team and congratulations on great food, excellent service and a great atmosphere!! Long may you be blessed with many customers, health, wealth and happiness."

"We called in towards the end of what was an extremely busy lunch service (Bluebell Run). We were after some lunch and struggling to find somewhere with any room. The Fox staff couldn't have been more accommodating. There was no sign of stress or tiredness from anyone. All the staff were friendly and just really pleasant people. I had a delicious vegtables Tagine and rice and my partener had the roast pork. All veg was fresh and cooked properly. No cmplaints from us!! The couple next table not so happy, not enough gravy and her roast potatoes were too big!??? Thinks she was a regular and the staff went out of their way to get her different potatoes and more gravy. Hey ho you can't please all the people all the time but we went away happy. This is a family friendly pub that serves a descent meal at reasonable prices."

"My wife and I visited this place for my birthday and were not disappointed. I could leave a long review about this wonderful fine dining restaurant but I will just make some observations: Service Excellent. Very friendly and welcoming. Nothing too much trouble. Atmosphere nice vibe and very laid back. Food Incredible! I could not fault any of the food or drink. One of the best restaurants I have been to. An absolute taste extravaganza and all cooked to perfection. I asked the waiter (The boss I think) how the beef fillet would be cooked and he replied Beautifully and he was not wrong. We will return to Sylvan Oak without a doubt. If you want to go and eat somewhere a bit special that is small enough to be intimate but large enough to have a vibe then book a table. You won 't regret it."
