"I was recently visiting a friend in the area and we went here for dinner and drinks with a couple of her friends. The pub is large with plenty of seating and was very aesthetically attractive. They had a lovely menu for food and drinks. Two of us had a roast, one meat one veggie both were very much enjoyed and recommended for future visits. I had the sea bass which was very delicious and the flavours were perfect, I'll definitely be having that again. The pub felt like a good place for all ages, perfect for families and friends going out for dinner but also equally good for meeting for a few drinks with mates and enjoying whatever is on the screens. I highly recommend this pub and will be revisiting when I next visit the area."

"We received a warm welcome from the owner, who made sure we were seated comfortably and promptly took our initial order. My wife and I chose to have lunch on Monday, and we were not disappointed. Our meal consisted of a generous portion of beautifully cooked, flavorful, and tender lamb, accompanied by seasonal vegetables. The friendly servers were attentive and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our visit. It was a delightful experience, with delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere, all at a great value. We highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning."

"I am giving this restaurant 3 stars because while the food was very good, the service was terrible. We waited about 20 minutes to be seated and then waited 40 minutes for our meal. The staff appeared disinterested, even when we questioned why others who arrived after us were being served before us. They also brought my daughter's meal with rice instead of chips, and we had to remind them about the onion rings we ordered. The staff did not make eye contact or seem happy in their job. Overall, it was not a welcoming environment. However, the food was decent."

"Absolutely appalling. Been visiting this pub for some time and over recent weeks it has deteriorated. Recently we waited over 45 minutes for our meal it was not busy) and when the food arrived it was so badly burned it was almost inedible. with no apology for the delay; had we not waited so long, I would have sent it back but didn’t fancy waiting another 45 minutes. When we mentioned it to the staff they were unconcerned. We tried again a few weeks later in case this had been a one off but sadly this was not the case. Again we waited over 30 minutes ,and again there was no apology for the delay, but at least the food was good when it eventually arrived. We tried again today but it has not improved. In fact it was even worse. We waited ages again, then the next table to us was served before us even though they came in long after us, however the food was not what they had ordered and they sent it back to have the peas taken off the plate. When it came back to them it was still wrong and we realised it was in fact our meal, minus the peas, so off it went back to the kitchen again. Eventually we received our meals which by this time were cold having travelled the length of the restaurant 3 times. My husbands meal was missing mushrooms, my chips were cold and like cardboard, and the chicken looked as if it had been literally thrown onto the plate. We will not be returning and will definitely not be recommending Highfield to our friends."

"Upon arriving at the bar, we were immediately bombarded with inquiries about whether we were planning to eat. This repeated every 10 minutes, making us feel uncomfortable. We had come to The Mills from another pub in Buckshaw to relax, and would order food if we wanted. Everything else about the place was great, but we didn't feel as relaxed as we had hoped. We would prefer not to have to look for another place to dine."

"I went to the restaurant on a Friday afternoon at 3pm for an early meal. I ordered the rib eye steak and my wife ordered the cod lion Kiev. The cod lion was delicious, but unfortunately, the rib eye was not. It was full of fat, which I mentioned to the waiter. He said he would report it to the chef, but he only spent a few seconds in the kitchen and likely did not have enough time to address the issue. Additionally, he forgot our order and had to try to remember it instead of writing it down, resulting in our onion rings arriving late and my steak being cooked rare instead of medium rare. Despite these issues, I still like this pub but it may be some time before I return for food."

"Well what can I say, what a wonderful weekend we have had at the Lock and Quay. First it was party time with Santa, we as a family thoroughly enjoyed it, my daughter loved every minute of it, the food was amazing and the staff were lovely and couldn't do enough, not just for us but for everyone. Today was breakfast with Santa, again the breakfast was delicious. Again the staff were first class, including Santa, fantastic job! my daughter's face was a picture and she was so excited when she saw Santa! Thank you for everything to all the staff for a wonderful weekend! We will definitely be back, excellent customer service, friendly staff and amazing food! We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and thank you again for making my daughter's weekend so special and magical "

"I'm not one for writing many reviews about anything but I feel I need to warn others not to order from here.. me and my partner waited for a few hours for our order. The delivery driver couldn't find our house and had to direct him to where we lived. Then when we got our food the chips where cold and stodgy. The pizza was not cooked properly and had very little topping on it. I only ate one slice as it was awful. When rang up to complain was met by complete ignorance and rudness from the staff who just put the phone and didn't seem to care what the problem was. So after waiting for over 2 hours for food and spending close to £20 the food went in the bin. Waste of time and money!"

"I just to go there every weekend to see a large group of bikes all types and sizes some of them amazing to look even if you don't like bikes aswell while I am there was a nice cafe serving food and drink always busy with so many people visiting the place now is the opposite the place was turned to a wedding venue the parking outside is replaced with wooden benches so no many bikers reduced to a handful of them and the place totally empty unless they got a wedding. I am very disappointed of this happening as before as far as remember always was full outside the cafe and inside"

"I have been looking for a 5 Star Fish n chippy for a while and tried J Seas for the 1st time Friday 11th Sept 2020. I arrived just as it was closing but the very friendly lady in charge cooked me a fresh large fish as I had travelled from Preston which I was very impressed with !! I have travelled all over the UK as a Field Engineer and I can safely say that J Seas is the best chippy I have ever found. The fish was cooked beautifully and the chips totally non greasy. I will now make this my regular chippy. Ignore all the bad reviews as it’s quite clear that they are probably from their jealous competitors."

"Me and my family went this evening with my little boy to celebrate my brother's birthday. The service was wonderful, the staff were welcoming and kind especially Chloe who was so lovely! "Party of three adults and one child, we ordered three mixed grills requesting no tomatoes on any as I gave an allergy to them, we also ordered a children meal of beefburger for my granddaughter.The meals duly came out all with tomatoes on, I explained that I could not accept it due to my allergy and the server although a little shocked took back the meals explaining they would remake them. This is when the girl who took our order came with my granddaughters meal almost throwing it down on the table in front of her, making no effort to bring any cutlery for her to eat with and proceeded to berate us for not advising of allergies.She then spent 5 minutes ranting that we should have told her, my thinking us asking for no tomatoes on any of our meals would be enough for her to make an informed decision that this meant NO TOMATOES were required on our meals.I requested to speak to a manager, who came and appeased the situation some what but this did not make up for how insulted we felt over the way we were spoken to. Needless to say we will not be returning any time soon.We noticed several people complain to staff about the time they were waiting for food and this place was quiet to say the least, I would hate to think what sort of wait people have if it were busier.The food was passable each of us asked for our steak cooked differently, medium, medium well and well done. You could not tell any difference between them.Others opinion may differ from mine but I can only go off the visit me made at the time we were there."

"If I could give this restaurant 10 stars, I would. Everything from the facility, atmosphere, bar, service, food, waitress, and overall experience was amazing. The service was fantastic. We started with nibbels (bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar is a must) and garlic bread with mozzarella. For our main dishes, we had the king prawn and black pudding, both of which were amazing. Another member of our party had the cheddar and leek soup, which my father called incredible. For dessert, we had a chocolate cake, burger, and halibut with lobster, all of which were incredible. My 6-year-old son was treated like royalty, and the service was impeccable. Thank you for making my mother's birthday special and for making my parents' 31st anniversary unforgettable. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this restaurant!"

"this is an inconceivable caffe on the grounds of a farm that also houses small boutique shops. the first thing that is the interest of a pointed one is the small outside place where seats are available. there is a mini-front veranda that leads them inside with sitting down and up. the personal was beautiful, professional and intact for safe ppe (juli 2020). the menu was quite similar to small caffe and restaurants. we loved our stuffed croissants and the Welsh rareness. it's fair to say that they know how to fill in plates! the salads that accompanied the croissants were plentiful and laborious. it was delicious. a small point could be the quality of the tees, but the coffee and soft drinks were great. a beautiful place for a day out of the house!"

"Visited evening 21st March, very quiet. Was very impressed with decor as it’s been a few years since I last visited. My food was really nice in fact everyone’s was , didn’t see anyone have anything from the carvery. The service was disappointing, maybe due to there only being a couple of staff. We ordered a main and a dessert but had to go to the bar to ask for our pud to be brought out. As my friend approached the bar the staff member initially turned away from us even though there was no one else at the bar. We also saw other customers waiting to be served at the bar. Overall we had a lovely evening and enjoyed our food. I would visit again but it wouldn’t be on my go to list."

"what can I say about the malthouse farm, this is the second time that I myself and my man stayed in the hotel and used the pub for meal and drinks. the staff is friendly and helpful, there is a lot of choice for eating, which will eat to perfection and abundantly cooked. the selection of drinks is also very diverse. the outside area is clean and very nice. many thanks once again for a nice weekend that is spent with them, we will be back."
