"This review is for the restaurant/food only as we didn’t stay at the hotel. The staff were extremely lovely and accommodating. The atmosphere of the restaurant was wonderful. A cozy and inviting space, that is tastefully decorated. The food was unfortunately hit and miss. I had a Gwydyr 8oz burger which was nice but could have offered more for the price. It was a very simple patty in a bun with very little sauce or garnish. The meat tasted good but was slightly too salty so I had to compensate by adding various sauces to it. I am from London, and £19.50 for a burger is expensive even by London standards. So I had higher hopes for my burger than just a bread with a patty and some lettuce and an over salted thick piece of bacon. My partner ordered a 16oz version of my steak (photo) and that was also overcooked on the outside and pink on the inside. With very few garnishes, and a thick layer of very salty bacon. The coleslaw on the side was a teaspoon size in a tiny ramekin! The chips however were quite nice. A friend of mine had the Hake wrapped in Parma ham and unfortunately this one was inedible. The fish tasted old and overly fishy like it was either off or borderline off with a metallic aftertaste. I didn’t dare have more than a bite and I had to discreetly spit out even that into a tissue. My friend is way too polite, so she tried to eat it all with the help of lemon juice, tartar sauce and an extra order of gravy. We thought it would be a whole piece of fish in Parma ham, but it was a sort of mashed up flakey version of hake, stuffed together in the Parma ham, with it acting like a pillow case to hold the contents together. I love seafood , I eat fish and shellfish all the time, and there are few things in the world I don’t eat, but that Hake was truly awful. I hate to say this because the staff were very friendly and some of the people were happy with their food. The people who ordered battered cod and chips said their food was ok. We ordered 4 portions of blue cheese sauce that they forgot to put through with the order, so the sauce arrived late, when everyone had almost finished eating. Of course accidents like this happen so not really bothered about that, we asked for a takeaway container to not waste the sauces and took it home with us. The overall 3 star is because of the friendly staff and the atmosphere of the place. Had I had to rate solely on food quality, and taking the prices into account it would have been a 1* review."

"Staff don't care about you and will happily watch you get pestered by others. AVOID. Me My partner recently visited for the first time, although the food was good our dinner date was rudely interrupted by a random member of the public, who stood over our tablet attempting to tell us about the oddest subjects but more importantly waving/pointing their fingers all over our food, after 5 minutes of us nicely hinting to this member of the public to leave us alone, this person would not take the hints and continued to pester us, we then made it very clear to move away from us, especially after touching our food, they did not listen, at this point, staff should have stepped in but they didn't. The whole time whilst the above was occurring, the majority of the staff including what we believe to be the manager, just stood in the background watching us, it was very obvious how uncomfortable we were and that this member of the public was not welcome at our tablet, the staff did absolutely nothing apart from watching. After the member of the public finally left, only then did a member of staff come over to apologise for the actions of the member of the public during this apology they admitted to knowing this person (which points towards this person being a regular, be aware! I understand Staff can't control the actions of a person or how they behave but if your customers are clearly uncomfortable/being pestered whilst on your premises by someone you know is a regular/known for doing this type of behavior, the least you can do is, step in/just offer to help your customers. Due to this experience, unfortunately, myself my partner will not be attending again."

"After a busy Christmas, cooking for elderly parents and family, my husband thought it would be nice to treat me to meal out. We had been to the grill room in the Royal Oak previously and had a very nice experience. We have recently moved...to the area and my husband Made a reservation for the two of us. I always like to start on the positives. This place is clearly taking Covid compliance seriously are the restaurants at screens segregating all the tables. The decor of the place and the Christmas decorations were simply divine. However, let’s get onto the food. My husband‘s meal was absolutely fine. To say that mine was a lacklustre was an understatement. The starter was meant to come with an Asian salad, slices of cucumber and raw tomato with a little bit of red onion is not an Asian salad! I had ordered a rump steak to be cooked medium with a side order of garlic butter and a side order of onion rings. When the meals were brought out, My steak, when I tried it was rare! Very rare. The sidedish that was supposed to come with it was a corn dish. Instead, it came with a mini corn on the cob. The waitress was really really nice, and took my food back. They offered to keep my husbands food warm whilst they further cooked my steak. We know from past experience that if a medium cooked duck breast is kept warm, it’s not very good! He continued to eat his dinner whilst My steak was correctly cooked. The onion rings which I had ordered as a side dish were left on the table, I thought it prudent to eat them while they were still warm. Sadly none of the oil has been drained from these correctly. There was so much oil in them and were not nice. My steak was placed back onto the grill And brought back out. Sadly, not all of the steak was brought out. Secondly no corn. The garlic butter was now inedible, it has completely melted and now resembles soup. The waitress explained that they were very shortstaffed and it had been a busy day. They had clearly run out of some of the food that they should’ve been serving and the substitute was not up to standard. Establishments should make diners aware of this before they take their seat. Had we have been advised of their staffing issues, we would’ve taken our custom elsewhere. The bill was £88. This was after they had taken off £3.50 for one of the side dishes that we had ordered as an extra. To be honest the compensation hardly made up for the lacklustre dining experience. Will not be rushing back to this place. That I’m much better places to eat locally. Such a pity as this place could be something special."

"I am a local and live in Conwy, and still have heard mixed reviews. I have been once before but this service from last night has sealed the deal to never go again. We had a table booked for 7.30 for 5 of us. We arrived at twenty past, and were lead to our table. Firstly no cutlery or drink menus. We had to ask for our food and drinks to be ordered after another 20 minutes. (A table next to us had come in after us and already had their order taken). We then had to ask for cutlery when our food came out. Then our food came out all at different times, with huge gaps in between. Service was appalling not once did anyone give us any eye contact or see if we wanted any more drunks etc. However there was a young boy working there who did his best to help us when we finally managed to get his attention. We finally finished our meal, and we were still waiting for 2 dishes that hadn't yet come. We asked for the bill and then had to ask for these to be removed. There was 5 of us so we had 10 dishes bought out, not once was our table cleared although we did our best to stack as neatly as possible in the end there was hardly any room. As a local, I won't be coming again and feel like the people who were just drinking at the bar got more attention. After spending over £150 between us we expected a much better experience than we received. It is Bank Holiday weekend so don't know if they were understaffed or just completely unorganised. Definitely wouldn't recommend and we won't be coming back. Disappointed"
