"An absolutely fantastic cafe. Very ordinary very basic, very clean and comfortable.Proper old school cafe and very good quality and value for money.Had brunch at half the price of other places. Two young ladies who's work rate and service we exceptional without any hassle rush or panic. Not easy to find and entrance is a doorway size opposite the clock tower and market.Highly recommend and will definitely return."

"Where does one begin? I ask thee, where does one begin? The beginning is usually a good point. My Somalian friend, Jared, told me about how he stayed here when his Tinder date had apparently went 'pear-shaped ' and he was waiting for his taxi to arrive, he told me that The Buck Inn was a 'zestful lark into classic British cuisine ' and gave me the two thumbs up. My Nubian friend is right about most things so my partner Theon and I decided we would check it out for ourselves. It sounds silly now but I 'm not sure when we arrived (it was at the 60th minute of the Portugal vs Hungary game, if that helps). Upon disembarking and entry I was immediately taken aback with how aesthetically unappealing the two bartenders were (it sounds shallow but I wouldn 't have commented on it had other events not transpired), I didn 't let it bother me as I am a supreme gentleman. Theon and I sat down and I ordered drinks for us both from the more appealing of the two staff members, for the sake of privacy I will call this person Joe. This scoundrel tried to charge me £13 for two triple V&Cs and he only put in a single measure of Vodka and when I pointed out this mistake to him and he said 'that 's a serious accusation ' before walking into the restaurant section of the building, this would be the last time he spoke to me directly for the rest of the visit. Theon and I sat, rather confused, watching the soccer match, waiting for the 'zestful lark ' to begin but for a while all we got was accusing and potentially lustful stares from Joe. A while later, the other bartender approached us with a crudely written menu on a small piece of paper, he spat as he talked and lacked the vivacious character I was expecting. Our food arrived after what seemed like an hour, Theon had to engage in a swift session of verbal fencing with the other bartender (I will call him Jordan) to get our sundries. I ordered a chicken Parmesan, as did Theon, the cheese and Beshemel sauce was adequate, the chicken however was clearly undercooked in places and when Theon took this up with Joe, this rapscallion simply said 'it 's ligaments ' and handed him the food back (which he didn 't eat). Now at this point I was quite upset, Theon managed to calm me down and we stayed for dessert and I 'm glad I did as the dessert was delightful, shame about the young fiends serving us however. It took some time to receive service as well because Joe kept on bragging to a barmaid from The Tuns about something called 'The Division ' while the other feckless bartender was struggling with putting card payments through the till. We stayed to watch the ROI vs Italy game and then we left promptly, I was still pulling the daggers out of my back that the young hoodlums had stared at me as we left. I cannot say for certain if it 's because I and Theon are gay but it certainly felt like a lot of the cold and surly service we received was because of that. The prejudiced glances was not the only lingering effect from our visit as me and Theon were both struck with a bout of food poisoning that crippled us emotionally and physically for two days and made us unable to attend a civil rights rally of which we were very much looking forward too. To summarise, 2/5, dessert was very tasty but poor service given to us by incompetent gremlins and food was undercooked and made us ill."

"I am 16 years old and me and two my friends ,also 16, went in for dinner at 5:30 on a Wednesday night when we were asked to leav. They informed us that management had said if we had no proof of being 18 or over we had to go .i replied saying we were only ordering food not drinks ,in belief that they thought we were trying to get served. However i was then told I must be accompanied by an adult after 4pm if I wanted to oder food. This had baffled me as it dose not only not comply with government regulations but it also contradicts themselves as I have been in after 4pm multiple occasions in the last few months."

"We live in Darlington always try to support new independent businesses, as sadly many don 't survive long. So we decided to try this new place for a meal with family to celebrate my husband 's 30th birthday. In summary, the whole experience was awful. There was only one other table in but service was incredibly slow inattentive. Some drinks ordered on arrival never appeared at all, despite several requests. The food was not fresh, or authentic. Most was cold, bland and clearly frozen and reheated (especially the fish, which had an unpleasant tang to it). We had to send a chicken dish back as it was not cooked properly and pink in the middle. No apology was offered. Our order was messed up with some dishes arriving that we hadn 't ordered and others missing. Unfortunately no-one enjoyed their meal. The pizza oven wasn 't working that night, so I can 't comment on the pizza, but to be honest I wouldn 't have high hopes for it after our experience of the other 'authentic ' Italian food. We weren 't asked at any point how things were, or if we needed anything else, and getting more drinks was nigh on impossible. There were several waiters floating around that seemed to have little to do with it being a quiet weeknight, but it seemed they may have realised we weren 't happy so just avoided us. Once we had requested the bill, we broke it down and explained we were willing to pay only for the drinks and few meals that were vaguely edible. Again, no questions were asked about what was wrong and no apology offered. The next day I received a call from the manager/owner. She wanted to understand what had gone wrong as apparently ours was the first complaint they had received since opening (which I now highly doubt, looking at other reviews). I went through all of the above and she did then apologise, explaining that she had not been there that night. She asked if we would be willing to give it another try I said only perhaps for the pizza, which we had been unable to order on the night due to the broken oven. She asked for my address to send us some vouchers for a complimentary meal. I thought this was a nice gesture and appreciated that she seemed to at least want to make the situation right. That was at the end of November and they have never appeared. Looking at the other reviews, I doubt this place will be around long, which is in no way surprising to me after our dreadful experience. Avoid at all costs and take your money elsewhere."

"the food really enjoyed. large selection of burgers and loaded frits. all 4 of our party were very impressed by the burgers. add the loaded frits and they have a very good portion food. table-tennistic and billard tables will mean that this is an unlikely romantic place for two, but a fun night safe. sad service was not brilliant. not terrible, but the chef had to bring the food to the table and didn't seem impressed that he had to do it. Long wait until we got the waiting staff for another drink, so we have a bill and went next door to the pub. overall enjoyed the experience and believe that it had only recently opened. not really an excuse for bad service, but maybe better next time."

"what a great tasty bite. from the moment we came to the moment we went, enjoyed every minute. sitting at the kitchen table and being able to speak with james and all its amazing chefs have just added the experience. everyone was relaxed, friendly and extremely knowledgeable and eating has made us look in texture, taste, servier suggestion and absolute love to blow away detail, but I think that is why they have 2 michelin stars! although all the portions are small after 15 curses they are full and I can not believe that some of the preparation starts 2 or 3 days before they arrive. the breakfast was also amazing. I don't know how to taste simple food as well. james them and their team are ultimate perfectionist, artist and master of eating."

"Sam Turner staff are equally grumpy and disinterested both in the cafe and the attached garden centre. All, without exception, give the feeling to the customers that both they wish you were not there, and they wish they were not there either. In the past I 've been served soup, half a bowl each as I heard a member of staff in the back complaining they were running short and to 'divided it between the bowls. It was watery and tasteless. I asked for a cappuccino and got a flat white served. When I pointed this out, I got the practised 'eye role ', no apology, just I 'll get you another, she 's new... I take it this was referring to the young female yakking away to an equally young and disinterested female while trying to serve me. I am a frequent visitor to the garden centre and this is no better. I 've been chased across a car park accused of not paying for plants and no apology when I produced the receipt, laughed at sarcastically when asking for a particular plant that had been showcased on the Chelsea flower show tv programme, and finally shouted at by a yardman she would never say that ever!!! for having the audacity to ask the price of something, when his colleague behind the till had told me he would help and to go ask him. Horrible place, awful atmosphere, I 've spent hundreds of pounds there in the past will never go back."

"Was taken a few month's ago to this hand built shepherd's hut on the edge of Brafferton by a friend from the school run and now go here nearly every day! Cozy Coffee offers wonderful coffee and other drinks, fantastic bacon and eggs, poached eggs, scones, cakes etc etc. I can't eat the cakes as I am gluten free but they look delicious. My husband loves the bacon sandwiches and also the poached eggs which Rosie cooks to perfection! She has provided me with some good gf options bacon, egg and beans (delicious), hummus with GF crisps etc, and today made gf chocolate brownies for the first time. I am now spoilt for choice!"

"Fantastic meal at Headlam Hall Hotel. Both my wife and I really enjoyed our meals. The Orangery dining room is a lovely backdrop for the food that was well presented, exceptionally tasty and, unlike many meals out these days, well portioned. The menu certainly lives up to the claim of Modern British cooking using locally sourced ingredients. My Tandoori lamb scotch egg starter was very flavoursome, a great combination... and even had a runny yolk! Both mains (belly pork/fillet of beef) tasted great, and the meats were succulent. My chocolate cheesecake was to die for, and Vanessa's Baked Parkin, salted caramel sauce, brandy snap and black treacle ice cream was a very clever and harmonious combination of flavours. Service was efficient and friendly but not over-obtrusive. All in all, it was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Thank you."

"I made a reservation through the app, but upon arriving at the restaurant, I was abruptly informed that my booking was not in the system. Despite showing confirmation, the person who greeted guests was not helpful and only offered a table when prompted. The only available space was in the bar area. The waitresses provided good service, being attentive, polite, and quick. Unfortunately, the food portions and quality did not match the price paid. It's a shame because the location is nice and the pub has a cozy atmosphere."

"I love the old farmhouse I have been dining there for sometime, the food was very well presented and very tasty as always only one disappointment was the rump steak my son ordered it was very fatty and they explained they’d had a few complaints but we were kindly recompensed! Would definitely recommend."

"No disabled access from garage area. STAIRS! Ambience of Kind's Bar was lovely. Not noisy, comfortable heat and nice seating. Staff were unobtrusive, but helpful. The afternoon tea stand was prepared fresh, unfortunately the scones were a little on the dry side and just cream and jam, no butter. We got a special extra. It was my friends birthday and they gave us an extra portion of cake. The cherry macarons were lush, however, the pistachio ones were not so flavourful. Some unusual flavour paring, and colouring, but overall tasty and filling tea. We also had two pots of tea during the afternoon. Nothing was too much trouble for the cheerful and attentive staff. I'm going back. Great value and felt special."

"Decided to visit the castle for sunday lunch after visting the bird of prey centre with my young family. Lovely setting however when waiting for someone to show us to our seats I wasnt impressed with her customer service. I can appreciate sundays can be busy but to be told I would have to wait in a not so nice tone im not going to hang around. It costs nothing to be polite no matter how busy you are. I did raise my concerns with the duty manager who was very helpful. But unfortunately I dont think I will ve returning"

"Whilst out having a general run around enjoying the fine weather my wife and i popped into the Piercebridge Farm Cafe following a quick google search.... and wow, so pleased we did. Tucked away in a small corner of a farm yard opposite the church on the green, you'll find this little goldmine. Finding a table and it was the last one as it was clearly popular we ordered our food and drinks. I opted for their BLT, my wife, their warm bacon, butternut squash, beetroot and goats cheese salad with honey and mustard dressing, tea and coffee and to top it all a cheese scone and a slice of their homemade Victoria sandwich cake with fresh cream. The BLT was perfect, fresh lettuce, fresh tomato and some of the tastiest bacon Ive had in a soft brown ciabatta style roll... outstanding. My wife said her salad was the best she'd had and to be fair it looked amazing. Just as my cheese scone arrived and my wife's large slice of cake the owner approached us and asked if we could eat another salad and a full english. A hiccup on the orders meant these were spare and were being offered to anyone who wanted then, rather than waste them. TEMPTED wasn't even close, oh how i wished I had the room to demolish that breakfast, but reluctantly i had to decline, with a tear in my eyes. The spare bacon, butternut squash, beetroot and goats cheese salad was boxed up and gratefully accepted by my wife, who, if she could have slipped a fork away would have eaten it on the way home. My cheese scone was light, fluffy and packed with flavour, and a must for any passing trade. As for the cake... if the Ummms Arghs and more Umms were a clue, id say it was delicious. Both staff and owners were extremely helpful, friendly and certainly made you feel at home. Would we go again... in a heartbeat. And finally, their onsite deli. Packed with fresh locally produced products, frozen meals and fresh meats, yes we paid that a visit to. Oh Thank you to all, we'll be back."

"we went on Saturday at 4.00 clock, we just got drinks served. carol asked what we wanted to know we like the fish plate. no cadry so that we can have additional fish cakes or garnel! there were four of us. I asked for a window table and safe enough that was requested! the food took a while, but we were not in a hurry. we have more drinks. when the food arrived, it was great and they brought us a bowl of chips that were made delicious at home! these were free due to our waiting time! we're coming back. Thank you."

"We arrived just before our booked time of 8pm. We got our main courses at 9pm making us late for the cinema. Our daughter had to take her pizza in a box to the cinema and then eat it at home afterwards. The noise from the bar and the shouting from the kitchen staff was unacceptable."

"The service at this restaurant is friendly and accommodating. Even though I had never been here before, when I requested creamy cauliflower with my order and was told it wasn't available, one of the workers (I wish I had his name) offered to make something special for me. I was extremely grateful, and the dish he made was the best I've ever had. The rest of the food was also delicious. I would recommend this place in any case."

"Staff were friendly and explained everything about how they are operating due to covid rules. Soft drinks (lemonade) tasted like soda water even after pump was changed so opted for coke. Carvery was nice but amount of meat portion was little and yorkshire puddings not soft like they used to be, very crispy and full of air"
