"Excellent food and service. We came on Saturday afternoon and when we arrived the pub was nearly full but the young man on the door squeezed us in, he asked to wait whilst they cleaned and re set a table . We were informed that despite it being busy there maybe up to at 40 minute wait for food once ordered we didn’t mind as it’s what you would expect from a busy town centre pub on a Saturday afternoon. My wife and 1 both ordered the pie, mine with mash and my wife’s with chips, both came with gravy and crushed peas. The pies are a proper pie filled with tender pieces of beef and quite honestly Devine! Our friends had a beer battered fish and chips which was a good size portion and the cheeseburger which they could only describe as delicious. We had 2 pints of Bombardier beer, an Asahi and a draught coke. Special shout out to our server I think his name was Manny very polite and helpful young man. When we were leaving the manager said goodbye and said he looked forward to welcoming us again. A lovely big pub in the heart of town, busy but with helpful staff and would absolutely return again. Keep up the good work"

"What a lovely little tearoom. Friendly staff and lovely food. We went in Saturday and I had the red pepper and goat cheese quiche.. delicious . We went back in today and I had a three cheese and mushroom quiche . This was even tastier. It's a large portion, with salad, coleslaw and lovely thick bread. Excellent value for money too!"

"When we arrived around 6:45pm we asked if we ordered food at the bar, and a member of staff said yes. After finding a table we then ordered a round of drinks (not cheap! whilst we decided on food, and were given menus and told which items were sold out. So, three members of staff by this time knew we were going to order food. Then when we tried to order, we were told that the kitchen was only serving people who were staying in the B&B or had a booking. This had never been mentioned before and we had just paid for our drinks. The barman apologised but said nothing could be done, and even once he explained the situation to the chef, the chef would not serve us. I would have liked to properly complain in person but guessed that given our experience already nothing would be done, so just drank up and left. Avoid."

"Horendous ! Made to feel very uncomfortable because we had children! IWe visited Jack Rabbits today as a group of 4 mums with our 5 children 4, 2 year olds and 1 , 4 year old. The children were being extremely well behaved, of course chatting away to each other however there was no screaming or shouting from any of them. The waitress ,Jane , felt the need to say to one us that our children needed to be kept quiet and that other customers couldn't hear themselves talk. We were shocked by this but ofcoruse wanting everyone to enjoy their lunch we made sure the children stayed in their seats and begrudgingly let them watch our phones as we now felt they must be silent extremely sad as they were all enjoying socialising with the other children and this made us feel really uncomfortable. Unfortunately with the children now silent and settled it didn't stop here. Jane again felt the need to quickly clear our table, taking drinks that we were not finished with and a full pot of tea this was returned when asked for. One of the children then got out of his seat and walked over to an empty table and stood behind a chair, Jane again felt the need to stand, stare at him, tutted and muttered under her breath. At this point we asked Jane if their was another probem, she stated again that customers couldn't hear themselves talk , we repeated that our children were now not even talking to each other and were actually silent, making the customers in the cafe more noisy than them. She said she couldn't understand why we had taken offense which is a concern in itself and said we should have bought something to entertain the children with and went on to inform us that her children and her grandchildren would certainly never behave like this. The conversation continued and we were made to feel that uncomfortable we left! Extremely disappointing from what we thought would be a family friendly and child friendly Cafe. Unfortunately other customers felt the need to ask if we were OK and were obviously shocked by the waitresses actions. We will certainly never be returning and would highly recommend other people with young children do not go here. I would like to add that the young waitress on shift was apologetic and very polite! She was a pleasure and a lovely staff member."

"Visited with family, nice ambience and decor, unfortunately that's where the positives end. The food was mediocre at best, I had mussels for my main meal and counted around 5 which were closed and inedible. My mother had a mushroom pasta dish and the mushroom was like rubber. I also noted that people on the table next to us ordered mussels as a starter and I was pretty unhappy to see it was served in the same portion size as the main but half the price as a starter. I'm fairly sure if you served this in France you would be flogged! Avoid!"

"We stayed recently for 1 night while travelling around the Peak District and what a gem! The greeting from Donald was very welcoming and the room was truly lovely. Spotlessly clean and well equipped! We ate in the evening and the portions were huge! I chose the pork chops and it was delicious! The bar in the evening was great and the locals very friendly! Breakfast was perfection and certainly set us up for the day! We will certainly return very soon! Thankyou for a very enjoyable stay!"

"Went for lunch today and what a disappointment. When we arrived the whole place was empty, this had me worried as a busy restaurant is always a good sign of happy customers. We asked for the roast lunch menu and were promptly told the roast meats were just Gammon and Beef. We both ordered the beef, what a mistake, it was so tough we both had a job to eat it. The vegetables were pretty average as well. I paid the bill on my bank card on the way out, not really paying enough attention as I swiped my card. We had stopped at the local M S on the way home when my wife asked me how much the meal was. When I told her it was £43.10 she thought it didn't sound right for two roast lunches and two small lagers. I went back to the restaurant and explained the problem was promptly given £5.60 refund. The young female staff are obviously not concentrating on their job. It used to be a really good restaurant for roast lunches, not any more, avoid it."

"We were here for a couple of nights and booked a table for dinner. We had popped along to see where the bar was and decided to go in for a drink. The people and staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. On our return in the evening we both went for the homemade curry and weren't dissappointed, it was delicious. Would definately recommend and would go back ourselves if visiting here again."

"What a find, the hospitality was excellent, we decided to follow the signs off the main road to have something to eat before we headed to Chatsworth to watch the firework display. We made the right choice, we were welcomed with a smile by the staff, the atmosphere within the pub was relaxed and the smell of the roaring fire added to the experience. We were looking to eat and the kitchen wasn’t open for another 1/2hr, we agreed to wait and placed our order, I had Scampi and my husband had Gammon. We waited not expecting our meal till after the kitchen had opened, however the staff knew we were on a tight timeline and we had our meal early. The meal was hot, fresh and tasty and we really enjoyed it.We are so glad we took the turning and will definitely be back again in the future. "Absolutely great experience we stayed last night in our camper van in their car park. I emailed a couple of weeks ago to check it was ok to park overnight we are Brit stops members) I also booked a table for us including our dog, I received a lovely email acknowledging our requests and confirming booking great start. We had a long wet walk in the morning and arrived around 3pm and parked up in their large flat car park, there is a lovely beer garden which would be lovely on a sunny day. The pub itself is modern and clean with a real fire which we managed to get a table next to in an attempt to try and dry ourselves and our wet dog, we asked if we could have that table for the duration if it wasn’t already booked this was sorted for us straight away. The landlady was really nice and super dog friendly she even gave us a lovely big soft dog bed for our tired wet mutt along with dog treats and a water bowl these are the small things that make people come back over and over again. The food menu is very good, lots of traditional pub food but with the addition of some interesting Indian curries, the landlady’s son in law is the chef. We both had Lamb Nihari which came with fresh indian bread 2) rice and a fresh salad absolutely delicious we did notice that the majority of other dinners also had this option) the lamb was so tasty and tender I will be having this again when we go back!! The pub was pretty quiet but it was a wet wednesday evening in February so we didn’t expect it to be busy. After a few beers we retired to our van lovely little grass area at the bottom of the car park perfect for a quick dog toilet visit before bed there is a large field opposite the pub which is perfect for a longer dog walk it has 2 entrances both with dog poop bins. We all slept wonderfully it’s on a very quiet road. There is B&B accommodation in the pub as well. My 1 very small niggle is the chairs throughout the pub are lovely solid wooden ones but are quiet hard on an old tired bum especially as we were there quite a few hours like I say it really isn’t a criticism just an observation. The Okeover arms has now moved to the top of our Brit Stops pub list. Thank you"

"Came half way through a lovely walk in Chee Dale. The walk took slightly longer than I expected so I rang ahead saying we'd be a little late and the staff were very understanding. Turned up to the nice cosy hikers bar where our reserved table was, which welcomed dogs and boots (a good job as we had both! , and we all had lovely meals Two veggie lasagnas, one with chips and two with garlic bread, and one meat lasagna with garlic bread, and one steak and kidney pudding with mash lots of veg. All really good hearty pub grub! We were tempted by the puddings too, and had apple pie with custard, ginger sponge with custard, and honeycomb cheesecake with cream. Everyone had a wonderful time and I'm already planning the next visit. Hooray!"

"I visited this pub on four occasions during my stay in the village. It was a relief to discover that there is still a traditional village pub which gives a warm and friendly welcome. Smiling happy staff who are eager to serve and please customers....The menu has mouthwatering meals which are cooked to order. The portions are very generous and served with garnish. Both lunch and dinner were fine dining experiences. Highly recommend it."

"Wow, this place has changed and not for the better. Back in the days when Carlos had this place you could get wholesome food served all day, I should know, I used to eat here every Saturday for years before walking in the Peaks. So I recommend Byways to some friends as we're in Bakewell for the day, we arrived at 1.40pm sat down and the waitress asked if we were ready to order, we asked for a few minutes so we could decide, 20 minutes later the waitress came and took our order, but then told us it was too late to order what we wanted, sandwiches and chips, we could now only order cake. So we ordered some teas and coffees and now it's another 20 minutes later and we still haven't had our drinks. When we enquired where our drinks were the waitress said they were mostly made but we're waiting for stuff to come out of the dishwasher. 45 minutes to get a pot of tea. Once my tea arrived it was nice enough. What's happened to this place? I'm afraid I won't be recommending Byways again, and that's a sad day. Maybe more staff would have helped? Very disappointed."

"Disappointed in the homemade pie. The crust was to hard to cut, it just shattered. The amount of mash and peas one small dollop of each) did not last the pie so you were eating just pie. Chicken and mushroom nothing special for home made pie , had better from pie shops. Well over priced. Complained, just told well it's a home made pie!!! No discount or apology. Give this place a miss for meals."

"Came in today with my mother and daughter .First thing we witnessed on entering was the fact two of the bar staff ,one had mask on but with her nose stuck out of it !! Second one didn't even bother to cover her mouth or...her nose !! Looked round after sitting at a table ,to the right of us was seated a table of seven people !! Government guidelines clearly state no more than !! Bar man stood at bar eating his lunch shoving chips in his mouth in between pulling his mask up and down .Then without washing his hands or using sanitizer ,was taking menues and cutlery to customers in between each mouthful .No government track and trace .No code .Just paper to fill in when entering .It clearly states that anyone should be seated when eating and I'm sure as hell that you shouldn't be eating your chips in between serving customers .We had a coffee and left promptly ,will be reporting this company for complete lack of covid rules"

"We visited this place after a lovely walk through chatsworth park, and what a wonderful place! The management have truly made this a wonderful venue with superb decoration and furnishings. We had booked the autumn afternoon tea and it was absolutely delightful! The little soup cup was delicious to start and the sandwiches were soft and fresh. Following this we had scones and other little seasonal cakes (we had to take some home, which were kindly boxed up), all delicious. Our server Becky was brilliant and we felt really looked after, and the young lady who was the barista Queen (Holly) was also making sure we had plenty of tea. We will definitely be back as we live very local and would highly recommend to all."

"We like to try different pubs in the Peak District for Sunday lunch and I have to say that The George came pretty high up the list today. I can quite honestly say that although we've eaten in many places in Tideswell, we've never tried...The George, but seeing good reviews on TA, we thought we'd try it. I had the Turkey roast and the OH had the chicken, leek and bacon pie. There were 5 veg, plus mash and a superb Yorkshire pudding that must have just come out of the oven. We shared a crumble, which, again, was excellent (made with brown sugar and butter! It was all very reasonable and the staff were attentive. However, just one point to mention, we were cold, as were other people please next time we come, have the heating on and light the fires it makes such a difference!!"

"We placed our order over the phone for two portions of Salt and Pepper King Prawns, Mushroom Foo Yung, and Roast Pork fried rice as we really enjoy this dish. When we arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes later, our order was already waiting for us. The Salt and Pepper King Prawns were the standout dish, with a delightful crispy texture and just the right amount of spice. Delicious!"
