"Three of us called here for lunch on a quiet Saturday following the royal succession. There had been no problem booking a table to accommodate our dog, but we decided to sit outside anyway. Service was always prompt (though we were the only diners for much of the time, having arrived at noon), cheerful and knowledgeable. We shared some warm bread with balsamic vinegar, which was generous for all even though charged for one. Straight to main courses, which were excellent all round: Dover Sole (a daily special), meaty in a meunière sauce; chicken with super mushrooms and sauce, and lashings of seafood linguine. The sole came with vegetables (quite sufficient to share between two), and we ordered a round of roast potatoes which also quite sufficed for two. Two of us followed with rum chocolate mousse and blueberries crème brulee which were both much enjoyed. Prices are perhaps a tad on the high side when taken with side orders, but the quality was excellent all round and the servings generous — we'll certainly go again. And the country sounds? There was the gardener tending the pub garden, the church yard being mown, the squeaky wheelbarrow being taken down the street (and our dog's response to it), and the owner's parrot. All an absolute delight on an early autumn afternoon. Recommended."
